I guess it's just that I view bait as something like a lure instead of, idk, a stick of dynamite tossed into the water.

I do love my brood and my partner, but the former need discipline and the latter disappointment.

You're amazing, in a vaguely horrifying and alien way, and it's made better by the fact that I cannot tell at all the extent to which you exaggerate these qualities for comedic effect.

One of the best things the Morrowind community ever did for me was getting me to realize that "canon" is a spook.

As a point of fact, Thrawn was reintroduced into canon after the Great Canon Purge. Disney had already nuked the EU by then. They've brought back some things; Rakata Prime is shown in an official map, so the name at least survives.

If people want to tag their childhood as something that JJ Abrams can "rob" them of in 2019, then maybe they should revisit what defined their childhood and/or the level of importance this stuff has on their perspective of it.

I think if they continue the main sequence with a new saga, they should learn one very important lesson from Rogue One and the Mandalorian: sometimes less is more. It's okay to have a movie that takes place in only a few locations.

Most of what Rise of Skywalker and The Last Jedi ripped away from the franchise are good things. I agree that there were pacing issues. I would like to see TFA mostly taken away (keep the Han scene, scrap Starkiller) and incorporate a lot of TLJ into it, especially the bits about Luke's failure. Then spread ROS across two movies, basically.

Star Wars is always about retconning. I'm resigned to it at this point. The only really big issue is what ROS implies for the prophecy. But the prequels sucked (though I am pro-Binks), so I don't really care what happens to them.

TLJ was a good and iconoclastic movie, and it got rid of a lot of the dross that allowed RoS to be as good as it was.

@Rinel I am impressed you have the self control to manage to stick to it, with the lack of feel goods.

Absent actual addiction, it's mostly a knowledge thing, not a self control thing. After all, now that you know what it's like, you haven't gone back! So you have just as much self-control as I do.

I have the dubious benefit of having written down "benzo addiction" on countless public defender intake interview forms while sitting in parish jail. That sort of thing does a good job of internalizing just how dangerous this stuff is.

I've just been lucky enough to be better informed than most about how the drugs work and what dependence on, much less addiction to, them is like.

I mean, perjury requires specific intent, but a lie really only requires that you demonstrate that a false statement was made

Well, lying isn't a crime, while perjury is, but perjury really is nothing more than lying under oath.

The widespread understanding of lying is

      1. saying a statement
      2. that you know or believe to be false.

You can theoretically lie while making true statements! And commit perjury, too, IIRC. If it's proven you intended to mislead, the truth won't be an affirmative defense.

This is how normal people speak.

      Lawyers are not normal people.

Honestly my first thought was "lying requires specific intent," so idk if this is a lawyer thing 😛

That's horrible. But don't blame yourself. You should be able to trust your doctor, and so many are so careless with prescriptions. I'm lucky to have a wonderful psychiatrist, and we've kept my dose at 0.5 mg/bd with another 0.5 mg/bd as needed. So I take 1 - 2 mg per day. My dose hasn't changed in a year (hence the dependency and the lack of feel-goods), but I've seen what benzos have done to so many of my clients.

They're lifesavers, but they should be treated with way more respect by prescribers than they are.

I was prescribed this once. I stopped taking it after a month because I noticed no difference at all. It led me to assume, for a long time, that it was one of those drugs that doesn't actually do anything and doctors prescribe it just to shut people up.

Oh, it works for me. I've just taken it for a very long time, and my body has grown used to it. When I first started taking it, it made everything feel incredibly cozy. Like you were curled up by a fire drinking hot cocoa.

As I said, I've almost certainly developed a dependency by this point, but it still does a hell of a job at stopping high anxiety in its tracks.

And, you know. Memory. High level cognition. Awareness. Reflexes. Stops those in their tracks, too...

Not at all what it was like when I was giving up benzos. Hooboy. That's some shit. My doctor has told me getting off of benzos is about like getting off of heroin in terms of difficulty. I did it cold turkey (had to used up all my supply and the government cracked down on it so I wasn't going to get any more from them) and the first 2 or 3 days I hallucinated and just... sweat and shook and slept. I still feel their siren's song though. Shit is powerful.

Christ. Benzos are worse than heroin. Heroin won't actually kill you if you go cold turkey. Benzodiazepine withdrawal can send you into a grand mal, or a coma. I'm glad you were okay.

Imagine taking a pill and literally your whole life was okay. Everything is just okay. Great, even. Amazing. That's a benzo.

lol I wish. My clonazepam gets me to "unhappy and functioning."
