@Ghost Okay officially double-checked and I was correct, she didn't pay S&S a visit (unless it was after both Elf and myself were gone from the game).

RE: The Cat Thread
A little while after we moved away from Maryland, our neighbor told my mom about how her son was doing some sort of nature project and that there used to be so many chipmunks around and now there were no chipmunks left.

RE: Good TV
@surreality Don't worry, JJ has already been renewed. And the Luke Cage series wasn't exactly a takeaway in response to JJ -- it was already planned out as part of the Defenders quartet (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist).
also supergirl is awesome

I was involved in a duel over the idea of polyamory where my character was portrayed as less than honorable because of a publically-expressed (non-sexual) musing about it. I'm willing to fully own the idea that I portrayed myself poorly, or that I was wrong.
Okay, I now realize what this is referring to, and yeah I think your character probably expressed themselves poorly in their journal. Also it was like -- involving another character shortly after the love of their life died? So it was pretty IC for them to be sensitive to someone publicly commenting in a negative light about the relationship.

RE: RL Anger
Today is the 3rd year anniversary of my employment at this company. They give out number balloons on your employment anniversary, but I've never gotten one. I feel completely childish for feeling fussy about this, but dammit, I WANT MY BALLOON and some acknowledgement of my efforts.
Man, that's not childish or fussy. If they literally give out these balloons to EVERYONE BUT YOU, it's totally normal to feel unacknowledged, because -- you're not being acknowledged!

Reading about the bans and the logs, especially with the former being so, as someone stated 'nuclear' as far as a reaction, my fear is that it's going to make players more afraid of staff than willing to reach out to them, as it has done with me. I'm legit //terrified// of saying //anything// in OOC, be they pages or public channels, that it will be taken the wrong way, presented to staff, and then held against me at some later date, no matter how great my reputation for being a helpful player is. I don't want to log into a game where I'm scared half the time that I'll do something that I think is at worse, neutral and at best, helpful, and have it taken to staff and presented as me being something I sincerely wasn't. I'm trying to trust that my previous actions and general track record will ensure that staff will talk to me first before making such a 'nuclear' decisions as banning me, but at the moment it's hard to get past all the knee-jerk reactions and rampant rumors.
I say this while I deeply love the game and in general the Arx community. I really hope things get better and don't degrade into an environment full of anxiety and fear. I love my character and I'd hate to lose him just because I was misunderstood.
I am pretty sure that neither of the two recent bans (or any others that I've heard about, really) were really only because of one single conversation with no prior history of conflict. There's usually a final straw in instances like this, but it's rarely the first straw.

RE: Where's your RP at?
@Ghost Sorry, are you trying to say that if a game doesn't have non-consent PC death, it's not a real game??

RE: RL Anger
@surreality Common meatloaf mix is beef, veal, and pork. Meatloaf without doing a mix of meats -- not necessarily that specific mix, but something! -- is so weird to me. I don't just want a loaf of ground beef! One of my favorite mixes I've done is bison, lamb, and pork.
I do think doing a mix of meats in your meatloaf is perfectly normal, though. Not everyone does it, of course, but when there's a standard "meatloaf mix" that's gonna be pretty normal.

RE: How do you keep OOC lounges from becoming trash?
I've never experienced a game that was better for the presence of an OOC lounge. Like @saosmash said, just use channels. A lot of codebases even have a way to gag a channel so that it turns back on when you reconnect so that you don't forget.

RE: Mental Health and Grown Up Stuff
From my impression of the sort of behavior we're talking about, I think offering honest apologies and acknowledgment of the behavior to the people affected and then just doing your best to walk the walk can go a long way. Don't try to explain the reasons why, the backstory, what you're doing (unless they ask). Just leave it with: "I recognize that the way I was acting before was not cool. I wanted to let you know that I'm taking really conscious steps to change that. I'm really sorry if anything I did hurt you or made you uncomfortable." And then leave it. Most people will see the proof in the pudding if it's there to see. If you give them room to make that decision for themselves, people will feel less pressured and free to make their own decisions.

- If there are any really unusual traits of aquatic life that you think warrant attention -- poison spines, camouflage, ink, bioluminescence, mantis shrimp punch-of-death, etc. -- for ideas for powers and such, links and ideas are very welcome. I have some ideas, but I did not actually grow up to be Jacques Cousteau like I wanted to when I was six (yes, really), so suggestions or links to truly weird and obscure sealife with curious abilities are quite welcome. (Do not worry about the mechanics, they are in the weeds! Deep in the weeds! Do not go into the weeds! The weeds are full of spiders, stay out of the weeds! The weeds are full of grue! Ravenous, spider-infested grue!)
I pulled some stuff from electric eel biology for an Marvel mutant electrokinetic type. Both in terms of giving off electric shocks and using electric pulses for echolocation.

So, my rhetorical moral quandary is this: How can people strive for equality in a society where setting yourself apart from others as being more valuable is the main element of securing stability?
To be clear, my objection was to any suggestion that Black Lives Matter movement and the Everyone Gets a Trophy! group are similar. You did it here:
@Ghost said in State of Things:
So with the everyone gets a trophy or black lives matter or omg white privilege people, I tend to look at it all with a slanted brow.
Yeah. As long as you're going to be equating participation trophies with deconstructing deep-seated racial bias, @Ghost, I'm going to be slanting my brow right back at you. Those are very different things with very different validities.

RE: Strange Game Dev Inquiries from surreality (condensed)
@bored She asked for replies to specific questions after giving some context for what she's working on. You chose to instead post about what you didn't like about the theme ideas in general. I mean, do what you want and decide that the thread OP can't dictate what you can or can't reply to, but don't be surprised if @surreality doesn't want to respond to stuff outside of the questions she was specifically posing. You're going out of your way to dig into structure and theme stuff that she stated up-front she wasn't prepared to discuss or get into.

RE: State of Things
@Ghost I think that my language in challenging your statement was incredibly civil. I find the language of your response very much not so. My first response indicated that I was slanting my brow back at you. My second was about how your language choices come across. The strongest word I used was "misguided." You've now called me a prick. I think that you're actually the one who needs to turn it down a notch here.
EDIT: Intent is not the only thing that matters. The way we present our points matters, too.

RE: Strange Game Dev Inquiries from surreality (condensed)
@bored Maybe, like, she's already done a lot of consideration about that point and also talked to a variety of people privately? Maybe she hasn't yet gotten to the point of wanting to throw that aspect through the wringer of opinions? Maybe any number of things that don't involve her not wanting to hear opinions on that particular aspect that don't actually mean she's pretending they aren't potential game-killers?
As I said, the issue isn't negativity. It's just being off-topic for the stated topic of the thread.

Now as to the reputation I would not punish someone for spreading lies about non-game matters period regardless of the place they did so. I would punish someone for lying about game matters regardless of where they did so. For ex, Joe cheats on his RL wife. Not gonna care. That's not an example of spreading lies about non-game matters, though. An example would be Bob spreading lies about Joe cheating on his wife to get people not to like Joe OOCly so that Bob can sabotage his RP on the game.
