    • Reno needs a hand. (Stop applauding, smartass. :P)

Okay, so, currently Reno is still running off the code that Theno so graciously installed for @tragedyjones ages upon ages ago, when he opened the place. Changes and tweaks (and some breaks) were made here and there, but for the most part, that's what we've got.

And Theno has since released much more stable, up-to-date code for WoD 2e. Which we desperately need. A fresh install of his code would, obviously, be the easiest - but it would also mean a loss of everything all these people have worked to build, IC and OOC.

Nessie (in-game) and I took over this place when Wendigo needed to step down, because we didn't want everything to fall apart for players who were falling in love with Reno all over again. I'd hate to disappoint them now. So I'm really hoping I can find someone who's familiar with code, and willing to help us migrate between systems while preserving as much data as possible.

      Any courageous volunteers?

Kid-designed pumpkins are the best, though! That one's pretty damn adorable. 😄

    • RE: Reno is closing! ....Or is it?

      Merry Christmas to all!

Wanted to hop on and let people know that this project is still happening! Our busy little beaver backsides have been working diligently at it, and there's still plenty to do! Unfortunately, this means that our initial hopes of opening with the new year likely won't happen. Might be just a trifle longer. But you roleplaying types are notorious for your patience, right? <snerks>

      I blame the holidays.

In the meantime, we're opening up a Discord server where people can chat, network with other players, offer suggestions, ask questions, et cetera. The invite link is here: https://discord.gg/qEtvpUg and will not expire. Feel free to pass it along to others, too! The more, the merrier.

And now, I dive back into frenzied gift-wrapping, because procrastination. 😄

    • RE: Forgiveness in Mushing

To me, forgiving is something I do more for myself, than for the other person. In forgiving them, I'm shedding a burden. Freeing myself from the emotional and psychological weight of whatever happened. Allowing myself to move forward unencumbered.

So yes, I've done lots of forgiving. That's worlds away, however, from forgetting. It takes quite a bit - time and work - to regain my trust once it's taken a significant hit.

    • RE: Random funny

This really was random. As in, I was looking through other stuff on youtube, and randomly stumbled across this. And it completely and totally made my day. So I had to share:

Absolutely. And may very well be lower than the XP cap that was in place at Reno. We're still discussing policy changes. 🙂

    • RE: Echoes in the Mists - Discussion

The wiki looks gorgeous, which is no less than we've all come to expect when @surreality gets involved. Genuinely, I think it's her finest work to date. She's done things I didn't even think were possible.

The staff at Echoes and I are still diligently plugging in data, so there are bits and bobs that are still missing, on the wiki. One step at a time, right?

It is up, though, and can be accessed here!

We haven't started giving out wiki accounts with write access as yet, because we know the first thing most players clamor to create is character pages, and.. er.. we're not sure where those are located on the wiki. I promise we'll get the form stuffs linked up to an easily-accessible page soon, though! Hopefully before I'm all...

    • RE: Difference between an NPC and a Staff PC?

There have been times when I have 'pawned off' something onto a fellow staffer, either because I knew I didn't have the time to deal with something, or because I was uncomfortable with it. It's a thing. It happens. First and foremost, our priority is seeing that the players' needs are met, whether we tend to it personally or not.

Would I have an issue with another staffer portraying an NPC that I, personally, have traditionally portrayed? Depends on the staffer, honestly. In some cases, hell yes. In others, where I know that general knowledge of past interactions with that NPC is sorely lacking, or the other staffer's play style differs wildly from my own, I might hesitate -- not because I'm territorial over that NPC, but because I'd like to preserve some sense of continuity. If I played a werewolf elder with Player B one week, and another staffer snagged that elder NPC to go and interact with Player B the next and acted like they had never met them before, that'd be.. awkward as hell, frankly.

So in cases like that, where there isn't another staffer who could handle the situation at hand but I'm just too busy to do a full scene within a reasonable timeframe, there's also the option of doing things back and forth via +request.

Either way, ultimately, the player's going to get what they need. Which is how it should be, imho.

    • RE: Our Tendency Towards Absolutes

@Sunny lol, nah, I wouldn't ever condone doling out consequences to people who simply noped out of a plot that they weren't interested in.

One problem I've seen now and again, though, that does tend to grate on my nerves is when people do get involved in something, and even go so far as to gain some critical bit of knowledge that would help further the plot, or something similar.. and then they just sit on it.

      Endlessly.

To the detriment of other players, and the progression of the plot as a whole. Sure, the ST could find a way to nudge another player toward that same bit of knowledge. It's doable. But it also means that whatever scene they ran for the first player was.. well, let's be a frank. A waste of the ST's time.

So in those cases, I could also see some kind of.. well, not necessarily a consequence, but if their inaction screwed things up for others? They shouldn't really be allowed to benefit from it, either. Know what I mean?

    • RE: Dealing with bad actors

@skew said in What to do when your mush is attacked:

I'll add a bit of a "quick version" for TinyMux...

@boot *Person would get the hypothetical horrible person off your game. You can then @newpassword *Person=newpassword to effectively stop them from connecting again. Though if you're feeling extra petty, you can instead give them the @Thenomain special, and do:

@boot *Person then @aconnect *Person=think Why am I like this?; QUIT

That looks like a person being 'named' to me. Tack on the fact that individuals from the game this supposedly went down on have, three times now, sent 'emissaries' to my game to 'warn' us about this person and strongly urge us to ban them -- based on what amounts to hearsay, as no logs have been produced?

I stand by my initial assessment. This could be handled with a lot more class.
