@reason maybe build some rough pre built answers to help people narrow down. What clans they might be in.

RE: Alternative Lords & Ladies Settings
@faraday it was more me pinning for the pretty colored clothing objects with their pretty ansi colors and descriptions. Vs. Say the actual how you get there.
Because a Lords and Ladies game is very much Fashionborne/fashionp*rn at its heart at some level.
Whether it be pretty clothing, a cool dragon, or a fine mystical sword that descended from the heavens gotta show it off at some stage.
I am for fun not nessacerily immersion.

@jennkryst Rokugan has no pokemon? Wait what it does? *makes plans to round out her ffg collection)

RE: Alternative Lords & Ladies Settings
Honestly i am torn. I miss 'Firan' in that context, but I also hated Firan's rigidity (I love the pretty custom clothing), but omg, I hated being charged 1000 stenis to go to the bath house so I didn't suffer social score loss).
I am a fan of a M&M 3e, sort of flavor as a base.
I like the menu-building approach (i.e. you can build a character with a 'Ray of X' power and its always a blast, with X, yards, with a Heat, or cold attachment. Type deal.Something new but not complicated.
I love Lords of Gossamer and Shadow its easy (4 stats) and lots of options and its not an insane thing to code.
I miss the Road to Amber mush speaking of Lords of Gossamer (which is a TRPG derived from Amber Diceless). For me, I want flexibility with not like Pathfinders 's 97 books worth of options. Anything we create or add should be self contained within the game with little reference material outside of it. (my 2 cents).

RE: Alternative Lords & Ladies Settings
Please no. Please no 5e. Anything but 5e.
Mutants and Masterminds?
Lords of Gossamer and Shadow ( and come up with a dice system, as the game itself is Diceless), but not 5e for the love of all that is good and Holy!(Sorry, 5e just ticked me off when they said they were not going to make PDFs you could actually purchase and take with you aand had rules and had to do it 'their way') because an SRD just doesn't feel right.

RE: FFG L5R
I would actually like to see the Capital / Imperial city, more Heian-Kyo vibes.
I don't enjoy being near the Wall, or the Crablands.(but that's me).
I am Crane/Unicorn style girl, so wild open plains for my horsey, and tea houses, Kabuki and all ikebana shops.

RE: Alternative Lords & Ladies Settings
@ominous said in Alternative Lords & Ladies Settings:
You might be able to do a variation of my "every character is permanently on the roster and you just get to play them for as long as your logged in" idea. Players can have one character that is solely theirs. All non-exclusive characters (let's call the exclusive ones Feature Characters) are permanently on the roster and anyone can take them for a spin on a given night; however, they can only take non-FCs that belong to their FCs organization/house or non-FCs that are unaffiliated.
I am not a fan of this idea.
I do not like Rosters, because while it can create 'consistancy', (who is related to whom etc), it makes me feel like the character isn't mine, and that.. irks me.I also don't like that you have to take character that are non-FCs belonging to their FC's organization.
What happens if Player A comes in after all the things they'd be interested in are gone? Do they just not play?

@runescryer
Not a bad start.I saw we we mix a little Blue Rose in there & a little pern (because while candles are great, I think we should have hospitals, the scientific method, and electric and cool things. So most of this is written from the top of my head.
The Founders of the country were these Divine Birthright Scions, who were fleeing the destruction of the Old Kingdom(and by destruction I mean the kind they brought on themselves). [Truth: Space ships, psionic humans, nanotechnology colony finds the perfect planet]
They took all the small folk with them, and the Gods guided them across the boiling oceans to a new land.
Here this land was open to them. The land itself accepted them by offering anyone who wished to live upon it, choices. The divineblood of the other land needed to match the 'hummm' of this new land, and so the Great Beasts (Basically 'Rhydan/Companions' make links with some people so they're attuned to the world better.
Over time this Divine blood of Gods, spreads through the population like wildfire.
[Truth: The humans use their technology to modify themselves, increasing their psionics after discovering that the Great Beasts they've made contact with are sapient and are kineses weilders amoung other things (that being the most outward sign). Notably Greater Beasts, are bigger, and more intelligent than their mundane counterparts. (You have 'Greater Beasts & 'normal' animals. The normal animals from earth, seem to be compatible with the normal animals of the world. Scienticsts surmise that the world have have some kind of mental life force, since it seem to be using their animals as templates, and the Greater Beasts for communication. They note that there are no other humanoid lifeforms on the world.(Just me blabbering and a round 1 kinda way)

@pyrephox I was hoping... To not be reminded of that. Hence the "solving" of the issue. sigh

RE: Alternative Lords & Ladies Settings
Hey people if we can get a mu together, would anyone be oppose to me pulling these ideas into a play by post forum game and spinning up a world and pbp game based on It? (probably using Jcink hosting and of course premium because.. People gonna.. . People.)
I did come up with an idea around that squickyy topic that was touch on early (i. E zoophilia the mu*). The Rhydan-like animals... TThey can shape shift into a kenomimi(that is human with ears and tails of animals).
There probably solved¿ and now I have created a whole new one of course.

RE: Alternative Lords & Ladies Settings
Honestly,
while I know where that's going: Rhydan have the other problem of 'not breeding true'. Like they're not a 'species'. They are 'awakened' animals.
So most Rhydan (at least in book lore), seem to simply be plantonic friends with most other beings.Honestly I prefer for the 'Pern/ Valdemar approach'- fully sapient species, who do breed true and are their own thing seperate from other 'animals' . (Because the implications of a cat awakening and then realizing that her new litter are... just cats is too freaking sad) (because that's the thing, in Blue Rose, Rhydan just 'kinda happen'. Unlike Valdemar's Companions
are/seem to be reincarnated heralds, at least GroveBorn are
, that do indeed breed true.
If I were to construct a game, I'd take the Pern dragon approach or Valdemar Companion approach- these being are seperate species of being, that once they awaken this changes thier blood and genetics- more akin to the Royal Animals of Jane Linskold's Fire Keeper Saga. (Can you tell I have built worlds in the past and love this genre).
Also drawing it out as a MuSH, I'd just make all Rhydan like Pernese dragon's puppet ( at least until such a time as the player base proves it doesn't become Zoophilia the mush. (ugh)

RE: Alternative Lords & Ladies Settings
Take my money.
I also want Magic in my L&L setting. Like real ATLA/ Witcher-style Sorceress (though not Aretuza, because who thought hysterectamies and magic were a good thing).
I'd actually like to see, somewhere where because magic is 'realtively common' like your farmer john type may have magic to deal with animals or the earth ( can you imagine how this would revolutionize food production, if the Farmer knows what the soil can support?
Farm Jon: We grew corn here last year, and beans the year before *does a ritual and in the day following finds that the Fae folk have given him like 12 options of crops that will nitrogenfix the soil, and produce better yields because they have been growing them in the fae realm, and all they ask for it fallow patch in the northwest corner, marked by a few boundary rocks, for an entrance and exist into the Faerie realm.
with a little note reading P.s. Remind your littles to at least knock before coming over the stones. We've had a lot of 'abandoned' human babes, in the past 2 centuries and we can only have so many changelings.
I love the initial posting. That was great.
We also need an L&L setting that allows people to grow and change- characters should be rulers because they're connected, with the /land/ and the people. Mystical rulership is always kinda cool.
As in (The royal person kicks the bucket) and the crow flies from the death chamber down the street... and onto the head of a woman who's cleaning the floors."You're our new queen".
(The maid who moved this kingdom like 6 months ago is confused).
"Yeah the crown picks the ruler, and you apparently are our new queen. It comes with a magic shield so assassins have a hard time killing you, Ma'm. "Also yeah , just give me Blue Rose- Fantasy Age version) THE MU* and I'll be reasonably happy, with some more tweaks to the setting.

RE: FFG L5R
As someone who has purchased the ' 5th Edition by FFG, I agree a MU* is hard, the culture's 'hard' rules are part of the draw, but culturally in MU* trying to enforce what the character would know via training and culture would be hard to enforce.
But it would be a lovely world to play in, if you drew from the wealth of 4th edition (extraneous information), but used 5e timeline & cultural reference) would be great.
The downside is that you have to have a good player base to keep the correct cultural feel, but I kind of love the idea of being able to sit and sip tea, or talk mystical philosphy.. or travel be a horse-girl (because you know Unicorns are best! But then so are the Crane)

RE: A Regency MU (Conceptual)
@auspice I am liking this idea.
Though I vote, leaning a little into say a 'Blades in the Dark Style setting/Dishonored' (so 'Dark Regency', maybe with magic.I mean I can see a Lords and Ladies game really thriving (yeah Bridgertons), but I think being able to wield say Avatar the last Airbender/Korra style powers, in a beautifully pastoral, and yet somewhat dark and corrupt world could be different.
I do vote that social status, and position be apart of it somehow.
I think maybe drawing on it as an 'alertnative' universe could be interesting., maybe a world where the Roman Empire never 'fell' a bit. So everything has this Roman-esque vibe? But that's my random 2 cents.
It's probably best to just ignore me.

RE: Avatar / Korra game considerations
I would actually like to see a universe, where post-Korra, the Avatar is gone for good. There will not be another -buit the nations are rebuilding themselves.

RE: Dune III players
I think I tried to play but never got off the ground.

RE: Development Thread: Sacred Seed
@pyrephox wait there was an Angel game? (that sounds awesome)
So far I am loving this.
@Cobaltasaurus keep up the excellent work.I have a question in this world, with you magic set up the way it is does the magic planylt/vine/seed.. Has it ever in the history of the world been mismanaged?
Has anyone tried to do something weird and crazy like force a another magical template into existance? (Fire, Water, Earth and Air) but what of something else.... I know you said no living material maybe manipulated... But someone must have tried?
The Seedless Companions of Nobles can they offered up in marriage to other Seedless to form a weird sub heirarchy of Seedless? (they're not common persay, but not noble)?
