Oh. Well it was a weird thought.

RE: Sensitive cultural/political/religious aspects of game themes.
Personally I've yet to see an interestingly done' Religious' game. Fantasy Religion as it were. And now I'd really like to. It'd probably have to be a Lords and Ladies game.. right?

RE: Fading Suns 2017
I know for me, I started reading Fading Sun and went: THis is interesting, and then discovered that the 'cool' part of the setting is ultimately (from what I was reading) 'punished'.

RE: Fading Suns 2017
People still play MU*s but I think Fading suns is a 'hard sell'. now. Maybe 1879, instead of not-Dune in SPAce?

RE: The guy who coded Kishi Kaisei MUX [L5R]

RE: Tulpas or Roleplaying?
@Wizz said in Tulpas or Roleplaying?:
I started reading about "tulpamancy" after this thread and stumbled across this blog, where a dude goes from skeptical but excited about them to...trying to let his imaginary magical pony replace him completely as the dominant personality in his body, in the space of like two months.
@Wizz WHAT IS THIS.. I do not even.. undestand and I read it.

RE: Crumbling Crowns - An Idea Gathering spot
@sthanheykel
Dragons are little of all of it: They started out as beasts , that were tamed, and then began to be bred for intelligence ( and size, both large and small- some rich lady wanted a lap dragon of course). Most are 'controlled' with magic. They've got a variety of intelligence levels, so magical collars are more about 'spacial awareness for the less intelligent ones. Human-intelligence dragons are deemed a kind of 'citizen'.I would say yes there are nations that are rising up currently. The city of 'Kirag' is one such region ( where the game would be based/ is based).
Slavery? Its not restricted to color or ethnicity, but is based based around... something else. People started created 'Slave lines' for particular duties, but magically reinforcing them. (So the rich and powerful got 'more fancy', while the slaves got more 'practical'). It got hammered about 200 years ago, so its more 'classism', in Napoleonic dress than anything. People pinging you for your heritage mostly: Got a lot of courtesan slave-blood in (and so look extra gorgeous?) Someone's probably gonna remark on it, and might try to peg for work as a Courtesan, not that its wrong to use it, but its sterotpying to the extreme.
Plenty of Industry relating to dragons. (Dragons are measured in Feet), so the Largest is about fifteen foot tall and 30ft long, (wing spans vary, if they are flying-varities, the utmost would likely be around 160ft.) If not, Wings are gonna be all over the map. (small, non fuctional ect).
Noblity is 'earned', its a meritocracy, as is Royalty ( its a combination, the Divine Right, comes from specical Oracles and confirmation via sacred objects. Each House has one. So becoming Peerage, says: You have some that Oracles have seen worthy.

RE: Threads of Pern
I admit I've never understood the 'games set during an Interval.
But I also invite people over to Crumbling Crowns, thread if you want to dicuss other similarthings.
Come to think of it:
Pern's main driver is the 'Flight-Clutch-Hatch' cycle as its how new Riders are produced. What is a way to.. eliminate or change that up. Its a 'locked system'. (as per before only Golds produce clutches).
How does a group of people change that. I've seen plenty of different things in PBP games (alternative timelines (set far in the future and other things).
But Pernese MU* activities rise and fall with that Flight-Clutch-Hatch cycle (usually an influx right before flight/or clutching.. and an mas exodus as people leave after a hatching.

RE: Crumbling Crowns - An Idea Gathering spot
Actually something like Temaire.. could work!
Maybe I could lean on that inject a little more magic?
Anyone wanna throw ideas and world build? -
RE: Threads of Pern
So I guess my question is:
What would a Modern Pern/Alt Pern game have to look like?
IC/OOC Seperation is a must (i.e your 'staffly types' can have a IC leadership position or they must be NPC ( and and staff can use them as mentors and help people obtain the IC positions.
+It'd be need to be Inclusive
+It might need to be during a Pass (or what ever other 'calamity time' if its alt pern).
+The Magical Flying Partners ( shouldn't have Gender/heirarchy locks (Color/Gender/ what have you.- I really don't know why anne thought that was good idea..) -
RE: Crumbling Crowns - An Idea Gathering spot
Welp I tried. (Hmm) Its weird, though intruiging, that using enter' as a line break worked sometimes but not others since I typed this up in notepad++

Crumbling Crowns - An Idea Gathering spot
Spin Off Thread http://musoapbox.net/topic/1239/threads-of-pern/48 (Page 3 specifically)
Throwing around Ideas:
"Crumbling Crowns"-
MFPS (Magical Flying Partners).
The Wardens: Equivalncy of an 'Adventurers Guild'. They solve problems, and give people work. These people are a step above or below 'polite'/normal' society depending on ones perspective.
Eras of Prosperity and Calamity tie the nations of Kaen together, across the Sea the Empire of Neydra looms...
Technological Period: Napeonic/French Revolution (18th Century)
Rulership is semi-Divine Right (i.e Rulers can be abolished through a Mandate of Heaven.
New ones can chosen, found, and Confirmed via an Oracle.)Religion:
Fantastical PantheonMost are fok heroines and heroes elvated to deific status.
Magical Flying Partners were given to Humanity as Partners.
At least that's how humans tell it. To the Animals complete bullshit: They choose to help the 'helpless twolegs cause they would DIE without their help.)

RE: Threads of Pern
Ugh no... @Cupcake!
@Auspice I am wavering HOw to Train Your Dragon doesn't feel quite right. I've decided that the 'Majestic Flying Partners' (MFPs) (until I figure out what they are). Are definately intelligent, living species, that lives separately from humanity. They are intelligent, and have speech, and society (at least in their weird, 'animal society'-style you see in fantasy books).
Humanity having been forced to this new world via a disaster in their old one, so now their stuck.
Downside humanity turns out to be metaphysically attractive 'darker' things. So this begins a set of cycles (ala dark souls or Final Fantasy) prosperity & calamity points in history.
Rulership &Religion become touch stones for different kingdoms.
Their biggest ties, :Wardens ( humans with animal bonds,)-- I am gonna go match this seperate thread now. Sicne I got stupidly offtrack.

RE: Threads of Pern
Yeah I am kind a tempted to put togther a forum game, but see what I can do about it not being Pern.

RE: Threads of Pern
Mirrim and Green Path .
PArt of that whole 'no other girls were allowed on the sands unless their was gold' egg.
And I've often thought Pern was bad /Sci-fi Fantasy, at times. I mean if you look at from a modern perspective its horribly, jsut /WRONG/ on a bunch of level (Sexist - any more who rides a green dragon is becomes gay' (kind of wrong. I think Anne actually said it).
I think the problem is that Pern'ssystem was literally something that couldn't be changed. As long a Thread Falls, Weyrwoman will have power (because their dragons can only breed).
But it also means Holders(farmers and townsfolk), and Crafters just don't have any reason to change.
And once there is no more thread (Dragons become glorified taxis, in a world without phones)It why I prefer alt-pern.
