@Wizz I never realized people got that weird about it. But it's the Internet. I shouldn't be so naive.

Every now and again when discussing my characters with someone, I find myself slipping into first person. When I realize what I'm doing, I try to halt it immediately - I just feel it's embarrassing and the person's going to think I don't have a grasp on reality. So I try to make sure I focus on remaining third person when discussing my characters.

I actually used to be a lot more fussy about this myself. Lots of tabletop gaming has made me less worried about first/third person in reference to my own PCs, because that's just how conversation flows. 'I can't believe you did that!' at the table isn't in any way implying that anybody thinks anyone is their character, or anything. Put through that lens, what used to worry/bother me on this line (oh noes, am I having separation issues?) doesn't really, any more.

            SOMETHING TO CONSIDER ABOUT TULPAS:

"Our IC baby isn't an uncoded npc object we roleplay around...
            ...
            ...
            ...
            ... it's our child."

            NopeNopeNOPEnopeNopeNopeNOPEnopeNopeNopeFUCKINGNOPE

If the person I am rping with OOCly believes that their character is a real entity with emotions, etc, and they want to have an IC pregnancy, then the next logical step is the assumption that this IC baby may very well be an actual sentient child that we OOCly brought into the world together.

            Oh. My. God.

I have nopechills so bad right now that it's giving me a fearBoner(tm)

Delete the Hog Pit. It'll be fun.

I think there's a difference between the immediacy of engagement in tabletop versus sitting around talking about the things your characters did/are doing on a MUSH, though. When you're "in the moment" and playing tabletop, it makes sense, especially since part of the structure involves projecting personal action. But in a secondary conversation while talking about some characters, using the first person pronoun has on occasion gotten me weird looks, and because of those instances, I try to curb it.

                It's our child process.

I started reading about "tulpamancy" after this thread and stumbled across this blog, where a dude goes from skeptical but excited about them to...trying to let his imaginary magical pony replace him completely as the dominant personality in his body, in the space of like two months.

Buckle the fuck up, it just gets weirder.

It's interesting to hear about all the different shades of being too invested in your character, to these tulpamancers that believe deeply in their 'characters' as something manifest. I've always lumped living vicariously and unhealthy investment together without much thought. Not anymore!

@Wizz I couldn't get any further than the 50 Shades of Brony contract agreement. I had to stop.

                      Oh fucking well.

I take it as an indicator of humanity's possibilities, not of the quality of reality, nor even the quality of the common realities.

Seriously that blog gets so fucking dark.
There's a point where he writes as Ogougi and mentions how her "host" has been seeing these dark shadow entities that have been triggering spikes of extreme fear and anxiety to prevent him from writing about them. Like, they're just there in the corner of his vision, ALL THE TIME. And Ogougi, despite being this magical pony tulpa being, is essentially not only powerless against them but actually...kind of apathetic about them? It's one of the saddest, creepiest things I have ever read.

The fictional spawn of two PCs. I don't know how common taking it to that extreme actually is but I've run into it a few times on different games.

In Second Life, there is a whole industry dedicated to virtual babies, including virtual baby bumps that thought-spams local chat with things like "Monica's baby tummy giggles. That fizzy drink tickles! Wheeee!"

Admittedly, it was five years ago (about the last time I was in SL) when I saw that, but it still stands out as the kind of thing that puts you at risk for snapping and running rampant with a machete, screaming "Everyone must die!."
