      Hey All,

Wow, I never expected to see a thread on DoD or any predecessors before it. I kind of find it interesting the views on how the database was transferred. It's been stated, but as one of the admin that was apart of the transfer - I thought I would give my insight a bit.

As has been stated, the database was never originally Vaapad's - but it's more than that. Vaapad used that game as his own personal play ground and would come in for a few days out of a month or after a few months and cause all kinds of havoc. He couldn't be stopped because he was the head wiz. Additionally, the code was constantly being improved or renovated by the Coders that we had at the time. I would argue that quite a bit of the code used by the time it was taken, was not what Vaapad had originally and had no part in.

Vaapad was causing a massive problem and the game was headed for destruction, so the decision was made to transfer it over. For a time, it prospered. As with all things, that did come to an end ofcourse. I don't regret that decision because I don't feel like Vaapad really owned or had any stock - it was a personal play ground for him.

I'm not sure if I was in a position now, if i would do it again though. Man, this feels like a life time ago as well.

Anyway, my two cents from an admin who was apart of it for what it was worth.

I don't really care because I don't play there. I just got an e-mail, which was deleted as soon as it was read (cuz I don't play there), that said they switched servers. So I don't even know if I /have/ an updated server address for it. Mudstats has it operational though so, I dunno.

Either way neither here nor there, now, to figure out how to create a poll!

Yea me to, but I did actually go there. It was up for a while and then went down down. I almost want to know the back story behind it but.. Everything must die.

Last I knew they'd just moved servers, not dead dead.

Try connecting to the server.. and then..

Like Rasputin, I'll believe SerenityMUSH is dead when I see its bloated, rotten corpse wash up a riverbank. Even then, I'll want to poke it with a stick to make sure it doesn't twitch, and then burn its remain. Just to be sure.

help him poke it with a stick..apparently..

I'd like a Firefly game that isn't Serenity, but I don't particularly want a Star Trek game that tries to be Firefly. Both shows scratch different itches for me.

Big Ship Firefly set on, like, a merchant cruiser that could support mini-ships tempts me greatly, though.

Serenity is gone gone.. atleast for now. They tried to have a resurgence, only for that to fail to.

@Soresu It's a deterrent, mostly, due to the sometimes self-centered nature of such efforts. It's okay, though, my feelings on ragequit games don't require your acceptance.

Thank God. I was worried there for a second. Glad we got that cleared up. As you know, I often specifically worry that your opinion will be counter to my own and debate suicide on that very fact.

@BobGoblin Ooh, good question. Is this a RageQuit game? I mentioned this as a game killer for me in another thread.

It was indeed a 'Rage Quit' Game. Though I don't necessarily agree with your standard that you can't join them. If someone leaves to make their own sandbox that they can have fun with - it may or may not be good.

I've always found it depends on the game's genre. Certain games have way more women than men, and it flips the usual assumptions we have re: nerdy gaming spaces on its head. World of Darkness, for instance, is for some reason White Wolf's lady RPG.

I've never read Kushiel's Legacy and only just googled it, but my first impression would definitely go with "yeah, this is probably more popular with women".

edit: okay I read more summaries. My takeaway is "it's France, but the nobility have the blood of angels and everyone fucks. yay hookers".

This is definitely a chick setting.

And people can literally smell like fruit. I.e. Some smell like apples when upset.

This has been brought up by more than one person I've spoken to about the game so I guess it's fair enough to go ahead and ask.

Is it easier to find roleplay as a male/playing a male character on KD?

I recently started playing as an invite by another player. I've gotten pages every day with someone new wanting to rp. All Female. I've also been propositioned once or twice which was a first for me. It's not a bad place, everyone is nice and yea.. No want for friendly folks and offer's of rp. I've only played a male though, to be fair.

You may have noticed lately my pushing really hard for a FFG Star Wars game to spring up (with volunteering to @dig the grid and everything), in part because of a few of the policy decisions on AoA. I have nostalgia filter, since it was my first MU*, but Star Wars is kind of like Shadowrun, in that there are few options out there that are not Saga edition (as awesome as my time on Generations of Darkness, was, I have ISSUES with level-based systems in general, and d20-ish moreso). My vote for a time would be 1000 BBY, set during the war that happened riiiight before the rule of two was created, even if that means I can't have my Gungan/Ewok buddy cop adventure.

Re: Features - Phasma is played by one of the coders... when she's not busy writing code and fixing broken stuff, she's handing out plots to our First Order characters. I ran Random NPC Stormtrooper in a plot, and it got to the point that it ran so long, the three of us who hadn't passed out were begging her to step in and save the day, just so we could sleep. She did not oblige.

The rest, I couldn't tell you if they are staff or not. Luke is busy hanging out in Ireland. Rey is busy hanging out in the desert being VERY invested in not leaving. Kylo Ren is passing out plots like a boss and giving SWAG to pretty much everyone in the scene. Hux is being a ginger space nazi. Maz is providing any number of plot hooks in her castle. Han and Chewie are trying to hire some folks to move animal cargo. Leia and Poe are, presumably, doing things with the resistance in the shadows. I don't really pay attention to them.

Personally, I miss D6. I started out on Starwars A New Threat.. Which is the D6 system. I wish I could find a hopping game that used that. Saga honestly just feels like the took DND and added a Star Wars skin.

As an admin for Generations of Darkness, I really dedicate all my time there. I can't speak to the reboot of AoA - but when I originally played it, I never had the feeling I did on Starwars 1. It felt like you could really get a Jedi (hell even FC) if you tried. Cujo was pretty fair as well as the other admin. The people I know who do play on AoA are pretty top notch (with a notable exception or two). Even @Jennkryst seems pretty cool from what I can tell. I would not, at the face of it, say no just because you can't get a Jedi/sith out the gate (even if I disagree with the mentality).

Generations of Darkness is the most populous Star Wars MUSH at present. Lots of people, like 30-40 unique connections at one time with 50-60 character bits connected.

I think the staff 'spying' was Kitty (a wizard) using one of the built-in spy commands to listen to a problematic player who was later banned. But then I remember one of the head staffers (Vaapad or Ataru) actually got into the WORA thread where it was being discussed and said the command was being restricted or taken out.

Indeed, this is what occured and was discussed on Wora. The command, while making people extremely uncomfortable, was intended to be used for cheating and such. I am currently an admin there. It's a hopping place for the moment.

Cujo was interesting. I remember when they gave the reigns to someone who had Coruscant invaded and thousands of Dark Jedi streaming out. It happened, like over night. The new guy got mad when he found rp that wasn't really reflective of it. There wasn't much to go on and it just .. happened. The place is coded so well and has just the right mix of Mechanics and rp that it was fun back in the day. But I agree, ultimately it was the policies that killed it off. While it doesn't sound like they are off to a good start necessarily, maybe it'll change this time around.

We've seen a spike at Generations of Darkness when it comes to players either coming back or trying it out. I would say that as each movie launches, there will be a spike - some will stay, most wont. It's like any other genre. I would dare say that it happens in all gaming genres. When Star Trek Movies come out, they get a bump.

Age of Alliances has, as well. Which, on the one hand, is weird, with their Force User policy. On the other hand, it takes place 1.5 years before Episode 7, so a lack of Force Users makes total thematic sense. Annoying sense, but sense.

I used to play Age of Alliances. It's an interesting place. I've heard good and bad things (like any game I suppose). Doing it after Episode 7 is intriguing and possibly pretty smart, I am sure alot of people would want to play in that universe. It would be tricky trying to stay true to canon if that was the goal. I don't know, a neat idea. There was a time when it felt like Generations of Darkness was really the only place consistently in town. It's nice to see other places spring up now, or rejuvenate. I'm probably not supposed to say that being an admin of GoD though.. cause.. Reasons.. I guess..

Oh, Hah, I guess maybe it was thought off. I have always been a bigger fan of the d6 system. I'll take a look to see what is out there. I was just surprised that I had never seen a 'prefab' place existing - or someone willing to build it for a fee. Thanks for the tips!

    • PreMade Grids and Code (Clone Wars Game)

      Hey All,

I was just curious, I have had the really big urge to see about opening a Star Wars - Clone Wars Era game. I enjoy story telling allot and running an arc. However, I hate coding in every sense of the word. That got me to thinking, has there every been anyone that's tried to either sell their talents or already have a pregenerated world for folks to use?

Perhaps the community is to small for that to be something lucrative, but it just seems like an idea for the masses who don't like coding, but want to run a place. Eh, I don't know.
