@mietze A lot of people pull this crap because they're incapable of remorse for bad behavior.

Most people know that having zero remorse or regret for being aggressively awful is even more awful.

If they can justify it to themselves somehow, it lets them run away from the truth of just how spectacularly terrible people they are.

Playing the victim is one of the big ways, deciding the other person is somehow more evil or whatever is another, but the list it just goes on and on and on. They'll usually try to convince everyone else of either of these things, too, which is another shitty act they'll never feel bad about, and will do even more harm to others.

@nyctophiliac It's... yeah, trust me, it's pretty gross. The tl;dr is: 'one of those weird corner case things that can happen in premenopause is that your body just decides, 'hey, you know these still work, right? Try lactating for that day or so before your period! THE CLOCK IS TICKING!' (Body's response paraphrased, obviously. 😉 )

      1. This is shit they should really warn people about in health class no matter how rare it is, holy crap. 😐
      2. Since the rest of the body isn't set up for that, or getting it out of the body, infection is possible.

If antibiotics don't smite it, they can sometimes remove it with a needle. (Bad enough!) When you're a ridiculous cup size, though... not so much. Cut and swab and drain. 😕 (Do not ask me to describe the specifics of 'cut and swab and drain', TRUST ME.) It's seriously painful and takes body horror to a new level when you feel forceps stabbing at your palms from the inside of your body outward while fully conscious and already borderline panic attack. 😐 (Particularly when you have zero warning this is all about to happen.)

Maybe he thought I knew this was the process? Maybe he figured the people in the ER who tried the needle method gave me a heads-up this was next? I dunno. I just know he dove in without a word of explanation beyond 'hold this'.

Thankfully, the nurse practitioner was able to refer me to someone else in the department, and when I mentioned his name as the previous surgeon, well, the look on her face kinda said it all and she was very eager to set up connections with someone else.

Antibiotics until I can get in to see the new team, which is best possible outcome so far.

ETA: On the plus side, I don't get the worst kind of awful infection gross. Just massive buildup of water/plasma.

We have at least managed an appointment with the nurse practitioner in a little while. Ideally she'll be able to make a referral to Not That Guy, and handle my prescription refills. Fingers crossed.

It seeeeeeeeeeeeeeems to have calmed down a notch today, so I'm hoping they can arrange for a heavy duty antibiotic to knock it the rest of the way out over the weekend. Please please please please please...

@saosmash The muscle relaxants (if you start noticing a regular tightness or ache in your jaw, especially in the morning, this helps before bed) and mouth guard may still help. I realize I have horrible tooth genetics, but shattering a molar in your sleep isn't fun to wake up to, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. If it's something that happens a lot, it's definitely worth looking into to prevent stuff like that.

Admittedly, I ground through my bite guard in two weeks... clearly I'm part pit bull or something. As a result, I know the cheap ones from Walgreen's and similar work just fine, 'cause.. yeah, we weren't spending another $400.

@TNP said in Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff:

There must be a reason they haven't replaced him.

I refuse to rule out 'terrified he'll just spontaneously start performing impromptu surgery on them if they did'.

I'd describe what actually happened, but frankly, even hiding it behind a spoiler tag, people don't deserve the nightmares for curiosity. 😐

@TNP It's not life or death, no. It is 'keep me awake at night levels of pain while alive and is progressively getting worse at a dramatic pace over 3 days', though. That ramps up the urgency somewhat. 😕 We're going to see if we can get something set up with the woman on their team come morning when their office is open.

It is one of those things that sometimes crops up for a day, then goes away without incident. 95% of the time, that's what happens. It's this 5% that's a bloody nightmare (literally and figuratively).

Guy in question is the top dude at the state network breast health center, believe it or not. He's very good at the cutting part and whatnot. The 'acting like an actual human' thing he fails at utterly.

While the previous 5% problem was the most minor surgery I've ever had, it remains the #1, hands-down, NO CONTEST body horror incident of my life. So we're really scrambling to ideally see someone else. Getting connected to a surgeon, period, can be really hard, though, and going to a new one could mean a week or more wait, which we definitely can't do.

@Taika Yeeeah, he's... special. I mentioned that to the nurse after he left and she had this pained look and sigh that suggested it isn't uncommon.

Seriously hoping we can see someone else.

...realizing it's not if, it's when on awful breast surgery, and all the 'nnngh, noooooooo' in the world ain't gonna change that. 😐

Fingers crossed we can get in with a different surgeon, because one that doesn't even tell you he's going to start slicing before he just says 'hold that' (meaning my boob) and starts in with the lidocaine and the scalpel... yeah, that was not good. I'm not afraid of doctors, but I'm deathly afraid of THAT doctor.

I've had Addis that eventually kink or go wonky, which is obscene for what they cost. The Chiaogoo ones never have; they've won me over completely.

There's a major construction difference between the two: the Addis (and all others I've worked with) have plastic cords. The Chiaogoo ones have plastic-coated cabled wire; it's similar to the heavy duty jewelry stringing wire, if not the same stuff precisely.

Plus, they have a super-mini set that goes down to a 000 needle size. I MEAN...

...so, to get any care in the state we live, we have to get the most expensive insurance option available from my husband's employer, as he works out of state. It eats about half his income, no joke.

I have some words for whoever at his office is picking the options, and while not all of them have four-letters, that's because I would be inserting FUCK into the middle of every other word that isn't fuck, fucking, fucker, motherfucker, or motherfucking.

@saosmash Please, please, please take this one seriously if it's ongoing and not just a 'this few hours is driving me bonkers'. I know it seems like a nuisance thing and not any sort of crisis, but I thought the same for years... and that's kinda why I'm in the midst of getting implants now. 😕 You do not want this, trust me.

If you can get something for anxiety, or even a minor muscle relaxant, for times like this? It's worth asking your doc. (Doc, not dentist.) Mouth guards suck, but if it's happening when you're awake, it's probably happening (more aggressively) in sleep; it really will help.

@Darren My inner halloween-loving psycho is already trying to figure twisted variations of that with food coloring and whatnot to make it look like a horror show. It looks like it would adapt very well to that end.

    • RE: Engaging the Whole Scene

I think the main thing I'd suggest is not being afraid to tell Bob McDoesAlltheThings to slow his roll(s).

Similarly, don't be afraid to tell someone to repose if they charge on ahead and do something that would/should require a roll (which is typically also done in pursuit of 'does all the things' or other forms of spotlight hogging).

If there are consequences to the 'charged ahead' issue above, there's always the option of 'mention potential consequences, offer to allow them to repose'; sometimes this can drive the point home a little better when you're dealing with a glory hound.

The husband and I have two things we won't watch until we can watch them together, and in both cases, it's HARD. It's this, and the new Harley Quinn animated series.

Also recommend the latter for so many reasons.

My mother had a cheesecake recipe that had no bite to it at all, and she made it all the time when I was growing up. The first time I had cheesecake that wasn't hers...

      bleah

@Derp ...there are cheesecake cupcakes that are a joy and wonder to behold. More like mini single serving cheesecakes. Sometimes in little chocolate tart bowls, even. SO GOOD.

I maintain this is a better thing than either, with love (and pining for some of those because damn).
