This is kind of a weird one, but it is pretty spectacular.

When shit goes not quite sideways but definitely oblique, you can't tell why, and have no clarity at all re: what the heck is going on, but know something's gone screwy? ...and you're unexpectedly stuck in one of those spots where the resulting IC misery just sorta seems to loom like the sword of Damocles over your head as something way less than fun that doesn't seem to be anybody's fault?

...the collection of people who grab you by the hand/hair/back of your shirt/seat of your pants and drag you into Fun and/or Fascinating Things To Do without ever even knowing what's going on, just that you're somewhat down and not seemingly not so excited as you usually are.

      These people are amazing. ❤

I just sorta hate people today. 😐

I started the day in a good mood, despite a galling lack of sleep, was all productive early, and just... still, here we are.

I seriously need to temper my optimism and faith in humanity when it begins to surface, I really fucking do.

@zombiegenesis Definitely peek at options -- there are a couple folks very needed still! Check with staff on the game to figure out which are which; I was keeping track but lost track somewhere in the midst of wiki fu yesterday.

I love you both to death, but please don't WoD in this thread -- I'm kinda sorry I brought it up but it was a relevant comparison for someone curious. WoD theory elsethread? There are definite lessons to be learned from this setup, but please don't WoD gamecraft here specfically?

      @skew said in Horror MUX:

      heavy choices

^ This. This is really the core of the horror aspect: having to make almost impossible decisions.

Confronting that sort of thing is what sets the game apart in a lot of ways. It isn't the angsty, endlessly bleak hand-wringing of WoD; it's: "You have to make a life or death decision, right now, and if it goes wrong, it's going to go very wrong," in many cases.

@haven In fairness, it can be scary! Though it's not like... edgelordy gorefest, IMHO. If you peek at some of the logs, it should give you a good idea of the range.

@haven There is mayhem IC! ...but people are actually pretty cool OOC.

We almost all blew up yesterday, I mean. If that doesn't count as mayhem, I don't know what does. (It was fucking amazing.)

You really should check it out. There's more roles available at the moment than there have been in a while, since things just got cleaned up/the idle have been swept over the past day or two.

    • RE: RL things I love

So, I finally have some finished shiny rocks as of last week. This makes me happy to a degree that makes no real sense, since all they do is sit on a shelf in little storage boxes, being shiny.

But I like shiny, so that's a thing.

I grump about it, because it is messy and often outside and often a pain in the ass, but this involves slogging around buckets of rocks anywhere from 10-30ish pounds each daily, and that can get up to slogging around 64lbs in a day (though broken up into smaller amounts because no).

This really fucking sucked the first week, a few months ago.

It has sucked less as time goes on.

This is super fucking awesome, because while that's no great feat for 99.999% of the planet, my back is so profoundly screwed I've been told repeatedly and emphatically that I would never be able to lift more than 5lbs at a time for the rest of my life since I was 19. (Sorry, doc.)

Obviously, I pushed this regularly for little things -- even a gallon of water is over 5lbs -- but not 'all over the house back and forth' and 'daily' and 'up and down stairs' multiple times a day. And if I pushed it this way for more than a day or two before, damn, would I be paying for it in hurt.

It is a little thing, but it isn't, really, because the achey days are now the rare exception, rather than the non-achey ones. And I'm pretty happy about it.

    • RE: DigitalOcean Mediawiki ShortURL

I've gotten it to work, but on Ubuntu. I am no help at all with CentOS. Not much help with general Ubuntu, either, but had managed this on it. Hopefully someone familiar with CentOS will chime in.

@thenomain What's unnerving to me here is that there are so many stranger things that people collect. You have a good brain, and I'm scared for it now. 😕

@salty-secrets In other words, it's promoting exactly the sort of attitude that the first iteration of WORA was aimed at putting a stop to, even if it used an endless series of four-letter-words to do it.

Seriously, proof positive intent actually fucking matters.

    • RE: Where to jump back in?

@tragedyjones I think you would have a unique appreciation for HorrorMU. Simple system, good story, everything ends in fire and screaming and angst.

And then it happens all over again.

I think you would be pleased. Very pleased. Seriously.

@auspice True, we kinda have the same issue on that front. My arms are... bleah, I prefer to keep them covered. The daystar and I are not friends.

It's when I get long-sleeved versions that the real chaos starts. 😕

Many places make unisex tees. Most of mine are technically 'for guys', but they're unisex. They usually look better on me than on my husband, so I tend to not complain too much there.

In all seriousness, having made clothing and such forever... 'men's tee' is unisex in all but name from most companies.

This is still stupid and frustrating, yes, but not necessarily for the reason of 'this doesn't come in girl' in many cases.

That moment when you are staring at the screen, knowing there's a ton more to say or do, but one line already there that you're trying to reply to really just sums it all up so perfectly there is nothing to add. You try half a dozen times to come up with a reply, and it's just like... nope, that nailed it.

The most worth-it frustration in the hobby, srsly.
