@derp Leading to weird story moments of "Okay, so you're opposed to those guys. Who were doing nothing, really. And you slaughtered them, killed innumerable innocent civilians, decimated the local infrastructure, and are costing us millions in repair bills... And you're saying they are the bad guys?

RE: Antagonistic PCs - how to handle them
I generally try to avoid using the protagonist/antagonist model. Since these are player characters we're talking about, and they have more agency than we'd give a typical 'antagonistic' NPC. They're both protagonists of different stories, and where those stories overlap is when the antagonism can come into it.
So, ideally, give them stuff to do that isn't directly overlapping with other PCs all the time. They can do their 'play the villain' bit without negatively impacting their opposite sect.

RE: Antagonistic PCs - how to handle them
To continue on @Derp's theme: nobody likes to lose. Whether it be political position, death, loss of prestige, opinion... people hate losing. So instead of taking some political damage and trying to rebuild... they go all out and fight to the death.
This is not all people, obviously, but it's common enough that one just doesn't bother with it.

Are you here alone? Do you need me to call someone to come get you?
There's a million 'yo momma' jokes to toss in here, but I haven't the will.
She's a grouchy old Slavic woman. She'd eat you alive and insist you haven't been eating properly.

No, really, I didn't. My senility is catching up with me.
Yeah, so you've said. Just now.

RE: Roster Characters & WoD?
@ganymede I wasn't actually asking those questions here.

Yeah I don't think this is about "better" at all. Just different. It might be better for some people because it suits their personal taste?
Aye. Whenever people bring up change, my first thought is, immediately "Okay, well what problem is this solving? What innovation is this making? Why is this change better than what we're currently doing?" And I was the same here. I'm too stuck in the mindset of... change needing to have a purpose, rather than simply accepting that different is okay.

I'm having trouble understanding how it might create a better experience
That's where I'm at with a lot of this conversation. But ultimately, doesn't need to be our version of better. Different is fine too.
Better for me would be games running to my schedule at my pace with like five people and free coffee. Around my kitchen table. Without so much code.
You know I think I'm onto something there.

@wizz Jesus, on the one hand I can't wait for schools to open again out here. On the other... I really, really don't want anything to open until it's totally 110% over.
Australia hasn't got the death toll as can be found in other places, but we don't have the population either. It's still horrifying over here.

You drop in, pick a concept, make a couple of tweaks, and the char-gen would make the PC for you.
That would save me so much hassle. As you know I've got chronic "can't make a fucking decision" syndrome when it comes to concepts and stats.

Under similar conditions, I also completed my graduate degree in economics.
I am simply a very angry person most of the time.
I am a very tired person most of the time. Which makes me grumpy. I don't have the energy for actual anger anymore.

Well maybe if you kept the pantry stocked with all the random bits and bobs I might hypothetically need, we wouldn't be in this problem!
In my household, I keep the pantry stocked, the kitchen operational, the dishes washed, and the household clean.
To no one's surprise, my PCs tend to be very good at keeping shit in order, but generally enjoy hurting others physically and emotionally.
Well in my household apparently all those chores are expected to be done by fucking magic or something. Because I know my family, who love me very much and I tolerate them, wouldn't expect me to do all that work in the brief time window after I come home from work and before I start working on my assignments and full-time study...

@devrex That just sounds like a problem with a dude being a dick rather than anything inherently wrong with the format.

Yes. I am surprised at MUs not borrowing more ideas from other RP mediums and tabletop games.

I'm the kind of idiot who starts prepping and cooking a thing only to discover that I don't actually have parsnips, or whatever, and I really should go to the store and get some... Instead of checking I had all the ingredients I needed before hand.
My partner does this and it nearly drives me to distraction regularly. If he had CHECKED if we had tortillas before starting tacos, he would not have to be mad that we're out of them, and I wouldn't have to rush up to the store to get them before dinner is ready.
Well maybe if you kept the pantry stocked with all the random bits and bobs I might hypothetically need, we wouldn't be in this problem!

@ominous No, no. Don't talk about it now. Get your
sample populationplayerbase andtest your hypothesisrun the game for a few months. Then tell us all about it. -

If of course your goal is to have a small, controlled environment then that's fine.
If your goal is to have a small, controlled environment then you wouldn't need it. You'd vouch for everyone personally.
