@horrorhound Well, you did say 'idles out'. And that's usually a month.

It is good to use abandoned PCs as examples
I have to absolutely disagree. Sure, PCs losing their position is important. But if I've had to abandon a character because of real life bullshit, and you decide to just arbitrarily kill off (or otherwise make unplayable) my character? Like fuck would I stick around.

RE: Roster Characters & WoD?
@il-volpe Or like... just make your own character and not bother with the faff of a roster?
-
RE: Roster Characters & WoD?
@il-volpe I mean. That's a big part of the roster character idea. Anyone can pick up the character once it's been given up.

Wot means roster character?
Ninety-nine times out of a hundred, it means the second option you gave.

RE: Roster Characters & WoD?
I'd only be even remotely okay with this if it were optional. I MU* to play my own characters, not step into the soiled shoes of someone else's idea that was played by another person that didn't write anything down.

But more importantly the collective playerbase focuses on negative feedback
I'd say humanity generally does. "Man owned gun without incident today" doesn't sell papers. Or whatever the kids are using to get their news now.
Another way to frame it, maybe: World of Dorkness MUSH: 47 days without a Hog Pit post.
That does literally ignore my point, though.

Bitching about something in any context actually conveys that something is worth bitching about.
Not necessarily. Just that someone thinks it's worth bitching about, or they're bored and want to bitch about something, or that they just like bitching...

RE: Player Omsbudsman?
The only category of staff that, honestly, don't need to be player relations people are dedicated coders. If all they do is make the ones and zeros sit down and stand up as required, fine. But anyone in a player-facing role needs to be approachable and effective.

@il-volpe Hey. I like flow charts. They go nice with my spreadsheets.

RE: Player Omsbudsman?
@runescryer While good in theory, it seems rather pointless in practice.
Advocating for the players is a good goal, but if players fear bringing concerns to staff why would they bring their concerns to this other member of staff instead? And unless this member of staff actually runs the game, what authority do they have to make sure the concerns are actually addressed?

telling me that the reason I can't get meds for ADHD is that it's over prescribed and doctors are locking it down.
I mean, this one is somewhat true. Somewhat. It's just not being applied evenly, only usually when it comes to anyone that isn't white and cis-male.

Do they not know how hard it is for a woman to get taken seriously by a doctor?
Why would you see a doctor? ADHD and endometriosis aren't real problems anyway.
Don't you have laundry to be doing? -

Yes, self, I am aware of the irony of studying fiscal and monetary policy while listening to punk songs about fighting the system.
Gotta know the rules to figure out which to bend, which to break, and which were built on blood.

RE: MU* Clients
Given that you have a preference for command line over gui, I can highly recommend TinTin++ as a tinyfugue alternative.
That said, I'm a recentish (in the past 18 months or so) convert to beip, and it's a godsend.

@ominous In a past life, I got a management-level person to make it official policy that all official interactions with my team had to be conducted via email, for security and auditing purposes.
