@macha Share the slow cooker goodness! I make my chili in a slow cooker, and many of my recipes are one-pot-shots for my Instant Pot!

RE: Recipes and Shit
So. I am spoiled. Years back, my mom spent like 2K on this SUPER awesome set of cookware. It included a slow cooker that is basically a giant stock pot with its own separate heating element. When I moved away four years ago, she gifted it to me. It is one of my favorite pieces of kitchen equipment. She is also responsible for my Instant Pot and my air fryer. In short, my mom rules.
So yes. Please. Share ALL recipes. Slow cooker. Instant Pot. Oven. Grill. Air Fryer. ALL OF THEM. I love food and I want more things to try out!

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@arkandel Dude, welcome to the fight. I've been struggling with weight issues for almost 30 years. Trying to find something that's TRULY 'low carb' without being replaced by empty sugars is like pulling teeth. And now they're getting dodgy with the 'keto-friendly' label too! I've been trying to find brands that are straight forward and simple with their ingredients and just stick to those... which means buying in bulk more often than not, since they go out of stock so quickly.

RE: The ADD/ADHD Thread (cont'd from Peeves)
@insomniac7809 I feel your pain. I haven't been able to START meds even with a diagnosis because my health insurance keeps going back and forth on what and how much will be covered and if they need me to undergo FURTHER diagnosis by ANOTHER doctor before they will agree that I actually have ADD, anxiety, depression, and PTSD. So... yay.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@arkandel I can't do mixed veggies frozen. All vegetables do not cook to proper consistency in the same time frame. So you could do a mix of brocc and green beans, the brocc is nice and steamed, has some body to the bite... and the green bean is wilty and mushy. Even peas and corn niblets don't cook at the same rate. And don't get me started on cooked carrots. They somehow never manage to taste like CARROTS.

@silverfox so their marketing team can pimp out their Official Microsoft Office classes and refreshers! Low low price of more money than the program itself costs!

RE: Dead Celebrities 2021 Edition
I really cannot verbalize how sad this makes me. As a musical buff? This is a hard one to take. Stephen Sondheim was so talented and so clever with everything he did. I actually got my start in musicals because my aunt was in uni at the time, and was part of their music department. Sondheim is a staple of ANY musical theater, and even though she ended up branching into opera (cause my aunt has PIPES), I will never ever forget seeing her play Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd. I just watched Gypsy again a few days ago and was marveling over the range required for the songs in that show.
I can't think of a single person I know that hasn't heard SOMETHING he's done, even if they aren't aware it's his work.

RE: Movie / TV / Streaming Peeves or Whatever
@greenflashlight Soooooooooooo... there's no need to talk about theories on why the movie was made. We know why. Dan Akroyd made a whole thing about WHY he wrote Ghostbusters and what it was about. He did it because his entire family is deep into the paranormal (seriously, look up his father and grandfather) and this was HIS way to join that grand family tradition and put down his own beliefs about the paranormal, while also getting to make a movie with his friends.
Fun fact! Ernie Hudson was not the intended fourth for the movie. Originally it was supposed to be Eddie Murphy, and the part was MUCH larger, and different. But then Murphy did Beverly Hills Cop and became a huge overnight success and they couldn't really afford him anymore, so they changed the role and when he appeared in the movie since he was no longer 'one of the friends' but some random dude off the street.
Second fun fact! They didn't know for sure that Bill Murray was going to show up until the first day of shooting... when he showed up. Like, from the time they had asked him if he wanted in and he said 'yeah, sure' there was zero contact between Akroyd/Ramis and Murray until the first day of shooting.

RE: Critters!
@macha I haaaaaaaate that my favorite breeds are all considered 'dangerous' or 'aggressive'. Rotties, Pits... big, gorgeous dogs. Some of the most friendly dogs. But because people they're 'dangerous'. I still remember this just MASSIVE Rottweiler my neighbor owned some years back. I mean massive. I could have ridden the dog like a damn pony and I'm not sure my feet would have touched the floor. BIG dog. Named Sampson (because of course). Biggest softie in the world. Just a big ol' cuddlebug of a dog. But the number of times people would cross the street and hurriedly usher their children past him while darting fearful glances.... and he would just be lounging! Just laying out in the sun and soaking up the rays. Happy as you could please, Grade A Good Boy. Didn't bark or growl at anyone... poor guy was so maligned.

RE: Good or New Movies Review
@coin Meh. What should have been a fun romping adventure about a group of mercenaries safecracking a Vegas vault during the zombie apocalypse turned into a whingey whinefest of childish characters that should have died within five minutes of setting foot on zombie turf. There wasn't enough humor to make a satire, it was more like a particularly boring episode of Days of Their Lives, if there also happened to be zombies everywhere.

Anne Rice
...holy shit. That's... that's pretty rough. I grew up with the Vampire Chronicles, and I still remember the boxed set of the Sleeping Beauty trilogy as an 18th birthday present.

@aria 20 bucks says that person won't be working at the company after the new year. Fuck that person, you guys did an AMAZING thing and I could only hope that more companies would take that sort of care and effort for their employees!

RE: The ADD/ADHD Thread (cont'd from Peeves)
@macha So, I've found Adderall to have decreasing returns over time, after having both of my kids on it at one point or another. With my oldest, the resistance built up very quickly and we had to get him on a new drug within 6 months because the dosage level to maintain the desired results would have been dangerous to him to keep going. My younger son took longer to build up resistance to it, but he was still on a new medication within the year.
That said, there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with starting on Adderall. I know people that are still on it today because it works for them. I think there are people that are predisposed towards being resistant to drugs (any drugs) and quickly build up tolerances to them. It's the same reason I can't use melatonin to sleep even though others rave about it. You need to find what works for you and you have to start somewhere. Adderall is common and has been around for forever, so it's side effects are pretty well documented and known. It's a great one to start on. Maybe you'll stay on it, maybe you'll switch. But the point is that nobody can dictate what will work for you except you. Keep your chin up and be ready to tell people to fuck off if they start offering too much 'well meaning advice'. You know you better than anyone else.

@Wretched said in Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff:
@Macha IO know for cats, certain plastics have scents they just LURVE.
Quoted for truth. I have a 19 year old cat that will actively seek out the plastic wrap from my paper towels or toilet paper, including ignoring the cat food.
I lost her brother 3 years ago. Undiagnosed heart condition, threw a clot, by the time we got to the vet it was in his lungs. Nothing we could do. 6 months later, I got George. George is now 15, a big puddle of purrs, and I am delighted to have him. He can't replace Val, nobody can replace Val. But he is his own delight and I'm never going to be sorry for getting him.
