@macha You don't need to provide those calls. The company is legally obligated to record all calls for quality control and monitoring purposes. THEY can pull the record of the call at the management level and verify that you did indeed try to contact to make payment and that their own (outsourced/contracted doesn't matter, they are ultimately responsible for any representative hired to work for Capital One) rep is the one that refused verification and payment.

RE: The ADD/ADHD Thread (cont'd from Peeves)
@wretched I hate that eye contact is still a required social construct. Even just casual conversation with someone I enjoy being around and I'm having to forcibly remind myself that they expect me to like... look at them. My brain recoils every time.

RE: The ADD/ADHD Thread (cont'd from Peeves)
@wretched The number of times I have bought something to replace a thing that I later found... I have an entire drawer dedicated to cables and plugs that were meant to replace a thing that wasn't actually gone. The money I have spent on buying a digital version of something that I have on dvd. Or even just having to have a digital copy of something on multiple platforms (Epic & Steam & Uplay+ are making a KILLING off of me) because my brain says I need to have it on both. Buying more socks that I don't actually need and then never return. OH. The money I have spent on LOUNGEPANTS that are never worn....

RE: The ADD/ADHD Thread (cont'd from Peeves)
@saosmash Goodwill LOVES me for this exact reason. I bring them stuff with tags still on it, still in boxes, still packaged. Just shrugging because of course I lost the receipt and the item is more than 30 days old because I can never remember to just take it back when I go again and yes I would love a receipt for this donation that I will inevitably lose within 5 minutes of getting home because I put it down SOMEWHERE because there was a smell in the apartment so I changed cat litter and took out the garbage and wiped down everything that might possibly be smelly only to realize two hours later someone across the hall is cooking something Godawful smelling and its affecting my sinuses, so I took some allergy meds just in case that would help and I sat down to handle some messenger and then my son came home from school so we talked about his day and popped some popcorn because he thought it would be fun for us to pile onto the floor and watch Ghostbusters... yeah. By the time the receipt even enters my mind again, I can't even remember actually putting it down anywhere, let alone where. XD

RE: Spirit Lake - Discussion
@faraday I'm rather surprised that anyone opening a game right now would think that they won't get a ton of people. We are, and have been, starved for new games for some time now. Arx has been the only real 'major' player in the game for at least a year, maybe longer. Why wouldn't anyone expect a flood of interest in something new and different?

@Wretched I would take a look at your state's COVID pandemic guidelines. Many states determined that there wouldn't be any evictions during the pandemic. If your state hasn't lifted that mandate, they can't evict you.

RE: Our Tendency Towards Absolutes
I will take the devil's advocate tack here, I suppose. In large part, however, I do agree that there should be more of a mindset towards openness than we often see.
SO. My one niggling thing. As much as staff are players, staff are also staff. When a player 'goes bad' they can be escorted out the door by staff. When a staffer 'goes bad' it often seems like its much harder both to prove evidence of wrongdoing and to get other staff to act on it. And I get it. Staff are often OOC/IRL friends with one another, they are trusted (at least to an extent) by the other staff. Its far far easier to just handwave off a player complaint of staff abuse with 'they were just having a bad day, I know Staffer Y would never normally do that'. But this is why standards of conduct (player and staff alike) should be implemented. And, in my experience (ymmv), when staff do start to display undesirable or abusive traits, it often starts with people who are considered bad or problem players. So it often goes unremarked upon for a much longer time because nobody is going to generally think twice if some swipes are taken at an asshole. If it continues on and complaints go unresolved.. well, this is why you have a lot players gunshy about reporting abuse in the first place. They've been conditioned to accept that nothing will come of it (at best) or they will be actively targeted by said staffer (at worst). This is also what breeds resentment and lingering mistrust of staff. And yes, I know, we can always 'vote with our feet'. But when you have a massive game like any of the last few bit WoD games, Arx, Firan, etc. you're going to have the vast majority of people who either aren't experiencing this so have no reason to leave or are willing to overlook it because there's no other game of this type they can go to so are hesitant to leave an active game in which they've invested time and effort.
TLDR; Staff are every bit as capable of abuse and misconduct as players, all people on a game should be held to equal standards of conduct whether they are staff or player. But I can see why there are the occasional cries for stricter enforcement on staff, it is (IMHO) much harder to deal with a 'bad' staffer than a 'bad' player. 10-20 years of watching nearly as many staff break rules or abuse players as the players themselves do have shown that its far less likely for a 'bad' staffer to be shown the door than a 'bad' player.

Thank you all for the response. This thread has really helped me realize that alot of the baggage I carried through the years was undeserved and unearned.

RE: A healthy game culture
@l-b-heuschkel To say nothing of how complaints about a 'bad roll' take a sour turn when it was a contested roll against one of the other people at the table. Instead of Jane patting Jack on the shoulder to commiserate the dice screwing them over, Jane has to listen to Jack bitch about how if the dice hadn't fucked him he'd have totally kicked Jane's ass... basically invalidating her win. Much as there are times I want to really really have my character punch another character in the face... I hate pvp so much.
@Tinuviel I mean, oWoD Vamp gave you built in bad guys, giving a reason why the fractious Cam/Ind/Anarch clans needed to come together to make sure the Sabbat didn't, you know, end the world. nWoD took that away, and that's when I lost interest in Vamp. I have no interest in getting into constant virtual dick-waving contests with other players. Same with Werewolf and Mage, to an extent. Oddly, Changeling went the opposite direction and is probably why I like it the best of the main nWoD splats. It gives a clear and present NPC bad guy to fight against, rather than just the same bullshit office politics that I have to endure every day at work.

RE: RL Sads
@solstice I recently received a diagnosis that included PTSD as well, and I agree, it's strange. We always think of PTSD being something that's for soldiers alone. But trauma can affect anyone. I'm still terrible at this, but please know that you aren't alone in your feelings and know that you are NOT your trauma, even if it feels like it right now. You are a whole person and you are valid.

RE: Autism and The MU* Community
I received my diagnosis last month. I've known for years, I raised two boys that both fall on the spectrum. But it was nice to have it medically confirmed. I'm hopeful that therapy, and some light medication, will help take some of the burden of having to make all my own coping mechanisms all the time. Which would be nice, because after 38 years of self-coping, I am exhausted. I don't have the option of a job that allows me to be by myself, or just work quietly at my desk. So adulthood has been a nightmare of trying to explain to employer after employer why my work history is as everchanging as it is. I'm hoping this will help end that nightmare.

RE: Autism and The MU* Community
@faraday Sooooooooo, to showcase just HOW different autism can be.... I can't stand to wear loose shoes. I have to have them laced up tightly, have to be able to feel them around my foot, or it bothers my brain. Its not uncomfortable physically but I have literally refused to go places because I couldn't get my shoes to feel right.
