On the bright side, there were only two items there you couldn't eat then. The black stuff in the middle rank of 'accomplices' is a form of 豆腐 made with 黑豆 instead of 黄豆 while the cream-coloured stuff at the bottom rank far right photo is so-called 豆皮 and is the skin that forms while making 豆腐 skimmed and cut into strips. The rest is all stuff you could eat the ever-living fuck out of.

Just … uh … don't go down on your SO after using the red broth. That red broth had so many Sichuan peppercorns in it my lips were tingling two hours after the meal.

@Ganymede: This was today's lunch. Please tell me again how much you hate me. Just… let me loosen the belt and get ready first.

      The scene of the crime.

      The mastermind.

And the accessories to the criminal enterprise.

On a large pile of money, with many beautiful ladies.

OK, so much the same as me. Cool.

Seriously, the saving thing is that soy sauce is so heavily-brewed it doesn't trigger my allergies. Otherwise, I pine for the days when I could eat Duck Two Ways until I barfed.

Man, I was kind of "meh" on duck until I came here and found out the myriad of really tantalyzing ways in which it's prepared. I pity you. Note: not sympathize with. Pity.

So, yeah. I hate you. But only because I envy you.

So ... bad time to show pics of my "count the variety of beans in this meal" meal?

If you want to put him on your Ignore list, that's fine. You've your reasons. But I hope you can agree with me that calling him Bane is unwarranted. Man, that's like calling someone VASpider: you reserve those curses for the people to whom they refer.

OK, calling him Bane was out of order. BigBad?

And sure, @Meg, we could have that debate some other place, some other time. But I guess my point was, and still is, that he mea-culpa'd out of the box.

No. He did the half-assed-mea-culpa-but-really-te-culpa out of the box. And not for the first time.

      Ghost isn't stupid…

Nor was, behaviour to the contrary, Bane. Unless you go by Gump formula, in which case both are pretty fucking stupid.

…and he certainly did not come off as defensive until someone accused him of specifically targeting Cupcake.

He started getting defensive the moment @Cupcake called him on his tin-earred response. Note: it wasn't until @Cupcake called him on it that he turned on his "I'm a complete asshole" mode. There's a pattern here. A pattern that now several people have commented on. I wasn't even the first (nor the last).

Frankly, if someone accused me of deliberately picking on someone when I honestly didn't mean to, even I would get a bit defensive. I'll own up to being my own kind of special.

Except … I linked to 2000 posts of history. There really is a trend of him going after @Cupcake for no visibly apparent reason. I mean I get it, they have history together. I'd be gunning after a few people from my history (Custodius, say) and it would make me look utterly fucking insane when I did. If there isn't a rule about me jumping in with the Marrach story every time Custodius is mentioned in the drinking game there should be. (There isn't. I should know. I wrote the latest round of them.) But in this case it really is time for someone to bitch-slap @Ghost and let him see what he's coming across as.

      @Auspice
Sorry to hear about your travails and bad news, and I wish I could help out.

Yeah, that bus thing sucks. (Buses suck in general, but it's oh-so-much-worse when you're unfamiliar with a new system.)

Yeah, we tried it out of morbid curiosity and instead left impressed with it and thinking we had the pizza sizes backwards. (We got the duck pizza in medium and a large more generic pizza as the main deal because we genuinely didn't expect much from the former.)

Yes, we did. It's in the Random Bitching section.

Ah. I just passed over something like 200 messages in Random Bitching because it was too random for me to even figure out what the fuck the topic was. It may have been buried in that mess.

Maybe you didn't make the comment, but I certainly read one that came off as making this argument. Which is kind of reasonable, in my opinion.

Is it really hyperbole, though? Honestly, yes it is. A bit. But only a bit. @Ghost has been in my ignore queue three times in as many months, each time lasting a bit longer than previous. He's in for the fourth time now. There's not a lot more times left before he just stays there as I lose all motivation to even do the miniscule work of clicking on that little eye icon. This is, in short, not the first time that I've looked at @Ghost's posting and gone "Dude! What the flying fuck!?" It's just the first time I've commented on it.

But Ghost really isn't the gibbering, grandiose waste of humanity that Bane was. And you, or anyone else, can call what he said as a non-apology. What he did do, however, is declare that he was going to back away and out, and he tried to do so ... or is trying, I don't know.

He declared, yes. How many times has he made similar declarations in the past? (Hint: I linked to his posting history.)

For the record, I didn't think he was making light of abuse.

Nor do I. Hence my referring to it as "tone deaf" instead of "being a fucking worthless piece of filth that would ASPIRE to be as lofty as dogshit".

      @Ganymede: We did?

2000 posts is pretty sizable. I guess "motherfucking huge" is a judgement call, but … well … it qualifies for me at any rate. And when I consider that @Ghost has gone into the ignore pile three times in the past three months or so alone based on his utter stupidity, I'd say that the comparison to Bane is apt as well.

This latest blend of utter tone deafness with a joke, an ensuing non-apology (complete with attempt to again somehow turn it around to be @Cupcake's fault that he got called on his bullshit), and the whole "not deal with you" as if it were, in fact, @Cupcake being unreasonable here, so reeks of Bane-like behaviour that I'm perfectly comfortable with the comparison.

The only thing really missing from being Bane Mk. II is claims of saving MUSHing with vaporware.

Statements of intent, especially when they fly in the face of a trivial search on posting history, don't mean shit. At this point you're a hairsbreadth away from being Bane Mk. II not because of that one joke but because of a motherfucking HUGE HISTORY of posts that make you come across as, well, Bane Mk. II.

Statement of intent is nice. But the only thing that's going to edge you away from Banehood is action. Which means you're going to have to exercise something you've shown little desire or aptitude for in the past: self-control.

Make no mistake: I honestly don't know fuck all about you. I don't know who you are, who you played, where you played. (I avoid that section of the board as being largely irrelevant and slightly distasteful.) My impression of you as B-b-b-b-b-b-b-oote Man comes strictly from seeing you, over multiple threads, come across as quite possibly the most poorly-socialized person I've seen in MSB this side of the 4chan crowd that periodically tries to infest the place.

Enjoy the process of growth. Or indulge in the reputation of being Bane II. I personally don't care either way. You might.

@Ghost: I don't know anything about you except what I see here in MSB. I don't know anything about @Cupcake beyond what I see here in MSB. I get that you have some kind of history with @Cupcake, but honestly dude? You're coming across as quite likely the biggest asshole this dysfunctional community has seen since the glory days of Mr. Bane.

You're being compared to Mr. Bane. You're not coming out as clearly better. You may want to reconsider how you do things.

Sadly I lacked the presence of mind to whip out the phone before the hordes I was with (affectionately referred to as "my family") descended on the pizza leaving it a tattered and torn mess.

For toppings: well, it had the duck (looked more like duck scraps to me, compressed together), the sweet bean sauce, the shredded spring onion and cucumbers all with mozarella cheese scattered on top. This should not have worked. It did. And it worked well. I was expecting to taste it and flee the restaurant screaming in horror. I instead mourned the fact we only got a medium of that one.

So I had something made for me a while back, and while it's a lovely pendant, it was attached to a rather naff little bracelet more as an illustration of what kind of thing you could use, but not necessarily intended for actual use. (The pendant is way too big and heavy to be dangling off a wrist.) The real purpose of the thing is to hang off the end of a traditional necklace of 108 prayer beads.

So I got myself one of those.

I actually liked the look of the wooden beads used in the bracelet that came with the pendant, so I got wooden beads for the basis of my experiment. (And the wooden beads were far cheaper than bodhi seeds, rattan seeds, turquoise beads, etc. anyway, so, you know, practicality. Cinnabar was cheaper, but bright red wasn't right for this piece.) The wood in question is a strange local wood called Gold Phoebe which photographs cannot do justice to: the wood has a distinct golden sheen in its grain that shimmers in moving light. (Ever seen mica? Or tiger-eye stones? Similar in effect.)

Now the necklace/bracelet, because of that latter part after the slash, comes on stretchy cord. Which is great as a bracelet and fine as a necklace provided you don't hang a heavy pendant off of it. Which I was doing. So I had to snip the string and capture all the beads. Then I had to get brown beading cord and manually restring the beads before tying the whole concoction to the pendant.

All of which I did today.

Stringing 108 wooden beads when you…

      1. Are a complete spaz.
      2. Have no idea what you're doing.
      3. Make the unwise choice of doubling up the hanging thread so that it has problems fitting through the three-hold bead at the end.
      4. Did I mention being a complete spaz yet?

      …is somewhat of an adventure.

So, when I got home I put my two flower deck cards side by side and took some pictures. These are arranged from January to December (using Japanese ordering):

Black borders are the Nintendo cards. First four months are arranged thusly:

      | Jan | Mar |
      | Jan | Mar |
      | Feb | Apr |
      | Feb | Apr |

The rest are arranged in column pairs from left to right.

Why did I orient the first four months differently? Because fuck you, that's why. (Well, that and I may have gotten distracted during the process and when I got back I continued with the cards oriented the other way… One of the two.)

I'd misremembered the nature of the extras. In the Korean deck there's six extra completely blank cards. They have no extra markings of any kind. Just a red border around a white space.

The Nintendo ones are the original "authentic" (whatever that means) flower cards. The ones I'm calling knock-offs are the Korean variant of them (although produced by a Japanese company ... in Korea). I'm calling them knock-offs because the art is VERY suspiciously similar right down to the specific poses of specific critters on them. Given the complexity of images on the cards I would have expected more variance than I saw.

Or, maybe, I just read too much into things. One of the two.

One of the clearly visible differences is that the Korean deck has a few extras, obviously intended as extensions. (Like jokers in poker decks.)

And now my Nintendo flower cards have arrived.

Nintendo doesn't fuck around with security features for such a trivial thing.

I don't find these as interesting, nor as well-made as the far cheaper Korean clones.

(Which are made by a Japanese company. In Korea. For sale to Koreans. Because fuck you, that's why.)

How much cheaper? Well, I got these at an incredible discount. I can't rationalize buying them at regular price, but at this discount, I could afford them. They were still almost double the price of the Korean clones.

Which is really weird because they're FAR lower grade, IMO, than the Korean ones. The Korean ones are made from a weird PVC-like material that's thick and stiff and the pictures appear to be also plastic sheeting bonded to the cards (and all the way to the edge). They're waterproof and damned near indestructible. The Nintendo ones feel like a plastic core that's both heavier than the Korean version, yet not as durable-seeming. The pictures are paper stock glued to the underlying card, then the black backing is glued on and wrapped around the edges. They do not feel indestructible. They feel, in fact, like the pictures will wear off with relatively small amounts of use when compared to the Korean ones.

Of course I needed the rules translated. And the only translation I could get on paper was to either Korean (with the Korean set, duh!) or to Chinese as here.

I can get them from the 'net too, obviously, but it helps to have that chart of cards and their point values even if I can't read the text comfortably.
