My former mentor wrote a series fantasy novels about knitting witches. Alongside each novel, she'd write a book of patterns. She did well enough with it to produce companion audiobooks of them. If someone actually did what you're describing, and released a side-by-side recipe book people could opt to buy as a 'set', they would likely do pretty fucking well.

@pyrephox She did pretty well with it. Not enough to provide a full income on the level that she was living (she was living a fairly wealthy lifestyle in a lot of ways as she had a number of businesses), but the books did well for her and she had a following. If it seems like something you'd enjoy doing, definitely go for it.
I am a lost soul in the surreal realm of East Philadelphia, guided by a resident and sarcastic tour-guide named John the Cat, who is a cat.
When I was on a dial-up BBS, I wrote many small free-form snippets of story about a version of myself who was lost and I discovered that there was no such place as "East Philadelphia" (neither officially nor by reputation), and decided that an urban Wonderland would be a nicely dangerous place to be lost.
John the Cat existed because I like cats, and I really wouldn't mind having a familiar. John is a black cat, of course. He's sarcastic, of course. But he also acted as the voice of harsh reality, the Cheshire Cat but a more constant companion. Of course if I tried to make this a story these days the idea of a "snarky animal companion" would be so tired that I'd be embarrassed, but it must speak to something because a snarky animal companion was my ideal before the word "web" was uttered outside of CERN.
Sometimes tropes are there for a reason.
I'm also amused when surreal things are juxtaposed with mundanity. I was the mundanity.
I never got past writing stories for myself, but I'm still drawn to things like this, not because Alice in Wonderland was formative to me but because the world is strange and complex and I appreciate writing that leans toward this.
I can, however, still recite The Jabberwocky from memory.

I'm a coffee snob. My french press tells me so. I also have a grinder with about ten different settings. I'm told that whenever I have friends over, that I just offer coffee and say nothing else.
I collect mugs, which may play into the first point. I love coffee mugs, don't ask me why, I don't completely understand it. But not regular size mug, as I look down my nose at 8 oz mugs. 12 or 16. I like big mugs and I cannot lie.
I have one cat and he's old as dirt.
It's not cold outside, you just have shitty circulation.
I will stab someone for a good handful of jerky.
I have an unhealthy appreciation for really bad 80s action movies.
Video game soundtracks are great for background noise when the tv isn't on(Really, just go listen to Deus Ex Human Revolution).

@thenomain It is. I never had a username on the old WORA forum, I was a heavy lurker and I followed the Crimson Skies thread pretty heavily for hilarity/insanity contained within.
I collect random skills and areas of knowledge because I don't think we were ever meant to stop learning things. At least one of these per year will be somehow related to fiber, clothing, or wearables or other adornment of some kind, from making nail polish to wigs to spinning yarn. Almost none of these things are remotely practical or useful and most of them are extraordinarily niche.
I argue with myself about whether or not this makes my brain degrade faster, or more slowly, on the regular.
I am a fan of a lot of things whilst cringing at most fandoms on the whole.
I have night terrors, and have since I was a kid. Also generally have a lot of trouble sleeping. As a kid, my mother would read bedtime stories, as many do. I still wasn't really able to sleep by then. So I'd make up random stories in my head to fill the gap and keep my mind off of monsters in the closet (or, as an adult, all the stresses that make insomnia such a fucking thing) until I'd drift off to sleep. Never really stopped. If I can't do this, it is my official red flag that Shit Is Dire Right Now, and something in life needs serious, immediate attention.
I give people way too many chances than is remotely healthy for me.
I love creating things. It's a bigger deal to me than literally anything else in my life, and always has been. This is completely impractical bullshit that has gotten me massively screwed more than once, but it's unlikely to change, even if I know it should/needs to.
I can't write unless it's collaboratively. I get X far on any given thing solo, and it peters out. I can write with someone for 2 days straight and forget I need things like sleep or food, though, and have more than once.
I have a love/hate relationship with the claw machine at our local diner, and more stuffed animals I do not need for someone who isn't especially fond of stuffed animals at all.
I love pretty much all forms of music, but what I crank up in the car when I need to sing along to it is country western and old choral hymns.
I made it past 1L in law school and fucking quit. I crushed my 1L fall exams (the hardest set of exams in law school or so they claim but I think its mostly because you're properly traumatized after that) and then realized that I hated everything about the idea of being a lawyer and quit.
I have considered going back because I could use this skill set for something else. I can't fucking make a decision about this.
I am that person who has to research a major purchase or life change to death. It's not indecision - I want to know the things so I can make the best decision.
I think burial is an absurd waste of space and insist on being cremated. Ideally, I'd like my ashes spread in space.
I've been to 27 countries and have 2 more on the list in 2019.
My uncle (who survived Stalag 17 and jumped out of a burning plane falling out of the sky to save his own life in WW2) is probably actually my grandfather. I won't be able to pry into this until after my father is dead out of respect to him.
I have no tattoos out of respect to my mother, who is violently offended by them. I will pursue one after she passes away.

Tough choice. If you did 1L and you're willing to keep working as hard you'll do fine. But law school is just generally a boring, miserable experience. The good news is that it's nothing like the practice of law whatsoever. The bad news is that if you don't really love what you're doing as a lawyer, the practice of law is also a boring, miserable experience.
The law market is still incredibly saturated from the 2008 financial disaster, and getting jobs in lucrative and/or rare positions remains difficult. I think law school should be approached somewhat like grad school. If you love the idea of it, and you think that's what will make you happiest--go for it. You'll have a great time (not during law school, but as a practitioner). But if you're just doing it because you're smart and clever and like to argue, there are tons of fields where those traits are valuable and don't require you slogging through three miserable, expensive years.

I'm thinking about going back because I can use it when interpreting and consulting on federal legislation. I worked in the federal system for a bit and then got lured into a tech industry job (more money and the idea of their being less politics at the time). But I'm bored af in my job and while the job itself is fine, the politics around it are/ became worse than anything I put up with in federal sector.
Mostly, I have the opportunity and ability to do something more meaningful with my life (to me anyway) and this would open a lot of doors. I have an advanced degree in another area, so I have endured graduate school so it would be a familiar kind of soul crushing tedium that I enjoyed. I'm also older, and some of my quitting was due to being unfocused and uncertain about what I considered valuable in life.
ETA: The crushing debt load gives me pause, however.
