      • Supernatural/Paranormal themed game. Doesn't have to be based on any one canon, but similar to @Bobotron

Disclaimer: I have been playing on/off/on/off WoD games since probably the birth of the Internet (circa 1995). Some of the names of the characters I may not be able to recall. I'll try to keep this in something of an organized manner.

      Games I have played on

oWoD (Old World of Darkness) -- a long list
      Paris (Les Fleurs du Mal)
      Tartarus
Masquerade (First game. First Vampire. First lessons learned that people be craycray)
      Bar Harbor
      DoubleCross
      Dublin
      DarkMetal
      CrackMUX
      Dark Wine and Roses
--the other incarnation of DW&R after DW&R went through a reboot (Shadowed Isles?)
      Hint of Malice
      Guilded Promise
      Denver by Night
      DueRewards
      DarkWeb
      Cajun Nights
      Gathering Storm
....others I'm sure, but cannot recall at the moment

nWoD (New World of Darkness) -- a shorter list
      The Reach
a CtL themed game taking place in Victorian England (first nWoD experience. First Changeling)
      Safe Haven Harbor
      Eldritch (I have a PC...but haven't played there yet, cause I'm dragging ass with concept 😝 )

Names I have used over the years (either in oWoD or nWoD)
      Tarlyn (Vampire. Tremere)
      Valjean (Mortal+)
      Archer (Sidhe Changeling)
      Lucian

    • RE: Full spoilers: Iron Fist

      @Admiral

WOW! Thank you for this. Really.

I watched this entire season with painful motivation. Every three episodes, I was like "Fuuuuuuck...what the fuuuuuuck..." The most joy I got out of Iron Fist was when Davros looks at Danny and says "you're the worst Iron Fist, ever!" He really spoke aloud what I'd been saying in my mind. It felt like a really shitty version of the Count of Monte Cristo.

But after reading this, I see what my problem was: I'd been watching it with a typical superhero frame in my mind. Where he knows who he is, what his role is in life, and kicking ass one iron fist to the gut at a time. But that's not who Luke Cage is; that's not who Jessica Jones was either; and Matt Murdock has some pretty grey morals by playing lawyer by day, blind-vigilante by night. So--why should I've assumed that Danny Rand was going to be any better than these three fuck-ups forced into being the budding defenders they will become?

He's a damaged young adult. He almost DIED in a plane crash, his parents are dead, and he comes home thinking that the world he knew as a child would accept him even as an adult [which it does not]. Then he has to deal with this quasi-familiar world around him that is always looking to screw him over or deceived or manipulate him for little more than it can. Danny's too trusting, and we see the results of his too trusting nature mixed with PTSD.

So TL;DR - thank you @Admiral again for giving me another lens to see this show through. I may actually watch it again and see if it changes my initial thoughts and feelings about this show.

    • RE: Potential Game / Temperature Read

@Auspice: here's another link to a free copy of Witchcraft and it's system:

      http://www.angelfire.com/realm2/the_grove/Witchcraft.pdf

As I've heard several people disdain's for WoD/ST system, I can understand. It's just a system that I know a bit more than other RP systems. If I played D&D or RIFTs as much as I play WoD games, I'd probably have initially recommended those because of my familiarity/bias with those systems.

I'm all for K.I.S.S when it comes to game systems. Especially for those that want to play/get involved w/o having to struggle with calculus.

    • RE: Which canon property/setting would be good for a MU* ?

I don't remember if this was ever mentioned, but here are my hefty $0.02 of what I think would be a good setting for a MU* (or as I like to call it my dream game settings)

      • The Magicians: I think that Breakbills, Breakbills South, Neitherlands, and Fillory could all make for good landscapes, but you could also just create a few other realms if you want to deviate a bit from the canon material (by way of one of gazillion fountains in the Neitherlands).

      • Red Rising: If you haven't read the books, I would strongly recommend them. Awesome! It has an entire class/caste system (Society of Colors). It's one of those that would also be fun for someone looking for a sci-fi Lords and Ladies type game/concept

      • Poltergeist: The Legacy (or Friday the 13th: The Series or Warehouse 13): You all play mortals or mortal+ (to use the WoD "race") traveling, investigating, protecting the world from powerful/dangerous objects.

      • The Old Kingdom/Abhorsen: Two different worlds divided by one wall. A world of plain mortal men and women, and a world of magic (free-magic and charter-magic). It has a developed enough world and timeline that one could squeeze an original game setting somewhere within.

There are others I'm sure I have floating in my head, but here are some that wanted to be noted in the conversation. 🙂

    • RE: Which canon property/setting would be good for a MU* ?

@Ashen-Shugar said in Which canon property/setting would be good for a MU* ?:

Always wanted to start a mush based on H. G. Wells Time Machine.

With realities and zones handling each different 'timezone' and having the 'past' effect the future, the possibilities would be fun.

Same with a Doctor Who mush.

Maybe one based on TRON with some fun virtual reality.

Then of course, Guardians of the Galaxy.

And to throw one out there that will make people lynch me and beat their heads to remove the imagery:

Smurfs Vs My Little Pony -- The apocolypse death battle.

@Ashen-Shugar: I love the idea of doing a TRON game. You really have a virtual (haha) open world of zones/sectors. Pick a timeframe in which the game is taking place:

      • pre-TRON: Sark and the MCP still run the show, trying to control much of the digital frontier as possible.
      • Age of TRON: Tron and Flynn work with building an open and free digital world. Programs are not limited to just their own zones/sectors
      • pre-ISO genocide: Programs and ISOs are all over the grid, but there's tension between them in certain sectors
      • post-ISO genocide: CLU has wiped out all the ISOs. TRON is now Rinzler. Things start to feel like we're going back to MCP days of control.
      • Something in between one of those time periods, or post-CLU.

Sorry....as you can tell I love the idea. It was a movie I grew up with as a kid, and also enjoyed both Tron: Legacy and Tron: Uprising as an adult.

@botulism said in Welcome to Lovecraft:

@ixokai The name is from the comic. Joe Hill (Stephen King's kid) named it Lovecraft. Keyhouse and the Drowning Cave, the Narwhals mascot, that all comes from the comic.

This is one of my favorite graphic novel series. Not that anyone cares. Just wanted to point that out--since the name of the game made me really curious if there was going to be Whispering Iron vents out there for unfortunate fools to create strange and dangerous keys 🙂

    • Curseborne and a Return to WoD

Been a while since I've opened my mouth on this site in some time. I wonder if there is talk around the proverbial water-cooler about an attempt to revitalize WoD/CoD-setting MU* games, but using Curseborne as a guidebook for streamlining the concern(s) around crossover play in the past (ex. Disciplines vs Contracts / Clarity vs. Arete).

Maybe I'm just over/undert-hinking this as of recent.

    • MediaWiki for dummies

So I don't know if this has been asked already, but I am looking at creating a personal wiki to house, store, and showcase previous played characters on otherwise closed games (ex. Fallcoast/The Reach, Fate's Harvest, etc.). I'd like to use MediaWiki, but I know there are a number of things I need to do first.

Because I know very little about coding, hosting, MySQL, etc. Can someone help this newb out in steps/processes/recommendations?

      Thanks!

And that doesn't even include the rich people's version, which is the Metra, serving the suburbs, which is a far more Eurorail experience than American mass transit.

I agree that it's the mass transportation for the suburban family/individual, but I wouldn't say that the Meta the "rich people's version" of the "L."

@Taika: "Must Have..." boy - that's a hard one to answer. I feel like you can't go wrong if you stick with neighborhoods along the Red Line. I would recommend trying to keep it equitable in terms of neighborhoods/districts (ie. an equal number of Northside and Southside locations). I think I'm just so stoked to see a Chicago-based game getting done that I don't know how much can be done versus wants.

I did want to ask when you're looking at in time. Is this taking place in the present day? A few years back? I ask because much of the landscape changed in some areas. Example: The South Loop went through a sudden boom in residential developments/rebuilding/gentrification around the same time The University Center of Chicago (a high-end residential hall for college students of DePaul, Columbia College, Roosevelt, Robert Morris) was built back in 2004 [*based on my own observations when I worked at The University Center between 2004-2006]. Much of the neighborhood/area looks vastly different than it did in say, late 90s/early 2000s.

As a resident of a suburb near Chicago, I'm pretty excited to see [finally] a Midwest-based WoD game. Question: will you be using the WoD: Chicago book for any source material/metaplots? How big do you envision the grid to be? Example: keeping the majority of the game within one or two neighbohood (Old Town, Bucktown, Calumet Heights, Bronzeville...) or each couple of grid spaces represents one of the neighborhoods (and have a larger grid representing more of the city)?

So a game that happens more on-ground that space exploration/conquering? Like a DS-9 type?

I don't know if I can post this on this thread, but there was an idea a friend and I talked about as a possible TV show (pilot-TV dreams), that might fit this niche.
