I think this is why I love the Old Republic era. While there's "big heroes", there's a lot of room for original characters.

RE: The trappings of posing
I think one thing that bothers me are people who pose second-person. Your character isn’t interacting with me the player, your character is interacting with my character.
This isn’t a deal breaker nor repulsive, but don’t be alarmed when I keep my side third-person.

RE: Home for Wayward GIFs
I have a gif I've been holding onto that I can't figure out when/where I will use it, but I must keep it at the ready.

RE: Which canon property/setting would be good for a MU* ?
@ghost The Defiance MMO could have ben a lot better than it was, but damn it would make a good MU*.

Silly things you'd been tempted to do on/for a MU*
Ever had one of those things that has nagged at you for weeks, months, years that you've been tempted to do on or for a MU* but never have? Maybe it's just silly. Maybe it's just too large of a project. Whatever the reason, what projects nag at you?
For me, it's creating the worlds/lands of EverQuest in a MU* environment. Not necessarily to RP or even be public, but just as an act of world-building creativity, especially if trying to keep it as accurate to the game as possible.

@auspice said in Silly things you'd been tempted to do on/for a MU*:
I said something to the effects of: 'I found this thing called a MOO. It'll keep me occupied for a couple of weeks.'
Famous last words.

RE: Sci Fi/Opera Originality
@kanye-qwest said in Sci Fi/Opera Originality:
It's a bad idea to create a setting where people can be spread out all over a universe from the beginning. If you have a game that successfully runs for awhile and attracts players through story and atmosphere, you can work on adding other places, other destinations. But first, you should definitely create a reason for players to be together.
Yes and no.
I hate looking into a game, asking the game "What do you need?", being told "anything you want", and then get every idea for civilians / trader / pirate / random NOT-crewperson turned down because it doesn't fit in the box they want to put everyone in. Most sci-fi games that stick people in the sphere-box tend to keep even basic civilians on NPC status and everyone must be part of the crew so that they're "not left out of RP", like away missions.

RE: NeitherlandsMUSH - A Magicians/Brakebills Adventure
Heya. Is this game still open? I noticed there hadn't been any scenes since June posted publicly, and there was no one online when I checked the website or logged in as a Guest.
Y'all didn't get whisked away to Fillory, did you?

RE: Travel Times - Enforced?
Some of my best RP has been "enroute" somewhere. It's okay to RP being bored and throwing a ball at the wall. It's okay to RP that your rump hurts sitting on top of that horse and whine to someone that you want to rest for a bit. It's okay to get caught up by random bandits/pirates/whatnot enroute. It's okay to RP random gossip along the way.
Think Lord of the Rings. Can you imagine how short those books would have been with instant travel? How much adventure would have been lost along the way?

RE: Awesome Youtubers and Videos?
First, a shout out to JackSepticEye who I saw last week on tour. Damn, he's awesome. PMA!
For great commentary on the role of a Dungeon Master (or any storyteller in a roleplaying game), I love Simple and Keen, which is a friend's brand-spanking-new YouTube channel. I love his video on player agency.

RE: Cheap or Free Games!
I got my Steam Link for about 1.50 in a bundle with the controller around the holidays. It's pretty darn nice. I just sit back on the couch (or lay back in bed if I take it in to that TV) and play Cat Quest. hehe
