I just had the derpiest thought today...

Firefighters do not fight fire. They fight inanimate objects which have chosen fire as their preferred weapon.

Delete the Hog Pit. It'll be fun.

I didn't know about grits until I was 18. Like seriously, had never heard of them or encountered them. It wasn't until I joined the military and got sent to basic training, and then I was in a chowline and there were grits where I had to be like-- what are those? to a fellow trainee.

That's a real shame. Grits and cheese grits are amazing.

Apparently, learning to cook grits properly is one of the signs you have officially lived in the south long enough to be considered a fellow southerner. (Or so all my friends in NC told me, back then.)

Seriously, it is some kind of magic. It is harder than it looks, harder than it sounds. It's one of those things you more or less learn growing up, and learn how to do just so. Failing that, you end up with gravel that when your friends try to eat it, the look of "we appreciate that you tried!" as they try to choke it down -- even when you followed along with their standing-right-there directions while you cooked them! -- says it all on that front.

            Oh fucking well.

                And fuck instant grits.

                And fuck polenta.

And an extra fuck you to anyone who tries to conflate cream of wheat and grits.

                  Couscous.

@Auspice Fuck you, I love polenta. It's great for when you need to mulch a small garden space.

A thing I should have learned a long time ago.
If at first you don't succeed, and it's not vital that you do succeed, try something else before you try the failed thing again. Life experience is just as important as actual skill.

@WTFE There are times when all somebody needs is a stage and they'll show you exactly who they are. He did a very good job of demonstrating exactly who he was at the time, and probably still is today.

People literally did not believe the stories about his antics until he proudly proclaimed them to all and sundry. That, ultimately, was helpful, re: this shit's for real, y'all.

                                  Oh fucking well.

If you sneak food into a theatre, sneak the wrappers/bags back out when you leave, or the lowest folks on the food chain there will get bitched out by their supervisors and/or fired. Sone folks like to leave stuff behind as a nyah nyah but it's those who don't have any say about it who get punished.

The worst a potential employer can say is no.

I am the most anxious bundle of anxiety in the world and I can handle interviews and applying for jobs without breaking a sweat because of this tidbit of knowledge. It's so simple, but it was something someone told me when I was about 18 and it just sort of sank in like a '...huh, you're right.'

And every so often, I remind myself and it's this instant sense of calm.

They cannot do anything else. They cannot affect me in any other way. My life will not change in any way, shape, or form.

Yes/no. Because they can affect a social circle, depending upon their placement in said social circle already, y'know? Things do become more fiddly in that case and I will totally admit that.

I do think a person should still go for it! And if they do pull more than a no then they were not worth your time in the first place.
