Masquerade (oWoD)--yes, we are still open
-
Masquerade is looking to recruit creative players who are interested in crafting a cooperative story within an oWoD (Revised) game setting. Those who do best on our game are those who proactively seek out roleplay and have an idea of what direction they'd like their character's story to go.
Masq's staff's job is to facilitate RP, arbitrate PvP, maintain continuity, and promote story. We are very laid back about allowing players to run their own plots, even those that involve supernatural NPCs. Players have the ability to flag their character if they are interested in being targeted for plots or not.
The location of the game is set in Albuquerque, New Mexico: a city that was founded over 300 years ago. It's a setting rich in natural history and native lore, and many of our staff plots stem from this.
We support the character types of Mortal, Sorcerer, Psychic, Shifter and Vampire. For more specific information, please view our player driven wiki at http://www.masq.org and drop by the game at masq.org 9999. Hope to see you there!

Huh, my PC still has a wikipage on there. Huh.
-
@Cobaltasaurus We would be happy to have you come back. Bring your friends!
I want to bump the thread back up because I would love to recruit solid players to Masq. There's an existing solid group of stellar RPers, but the game needs fresh blood. As staff, Augury and myself are extremely pro-PRP--so if you have a story you want to run, we will support this.
Feel free to drop by the game at masq.org 9999--I am always on (though dark) and would be happy to answer any questions.

Wow. It was the very first WoD game I played back in...jeez...'96? '97? A long time ago in the [way] distant past. Had a few fond memories and not so fond memories of that place back in the day. I am genuinely surprised that Masquerade still exists out there in the MU* world.
-
Same here. Masquerade was my first WoD MU*, around the same time, @DarkDeleria. Then on to Texas Twilight and a host of other insanity.
-
I'll be third on that. First real MU*, first WOD. I came in after all the Caine shenanigans. Our shenanigans were typically cheeky and fun. Though I think I was Purgatory's favorite torture toy for a while, but that was perfectly ok. Pretty much I compare all RP now to what I got there back then.
-
Come on back, guys--check it out!
-
@Fortune, didn't Masq used to have mages? I could have sworn there were Mages when I was there last, though that was soooo long ago.
Unfortunately, as much as oWoD spheres and general setting expectations are vastly superior to nWoD in pretty much every fucking way ever, I haven't really missed oWoD mechanics. I like that you guys aren't charging for Humanity, and while it's not mentioned I'd assume that by now the game is handling botches correctly (no rolled successes and one or more 1s vs just more 1s than successes), but you still use Lore apparently, so aieeee.
-
Getting rid of secondary skills is one of the best things the 20th anniversary line did in terms of making CWoD playable again. Yes, you CAN be an ass-butt and use them, but... then you'd be an ass-butt.
-
What version of WoD is Masquerade using? I understand it's Old World of Darkness, but are you using 20th Aniversary Edition?
As for mechanics, I seem to actually enjoy the mechanics of nWoD, especially XP spends. But that's just me.
-
@DarkDeleria
Seems like they're using Revised. -
Interesting. I looked on their wiki, figuring I'd link to it, and yeah, it's not there.
Nor is Gil Tanamor, my Werewolf, on the 'retired PC' list.
-
How long ago was it, @Thenomain? That you played there, I mean.
-
Before the stat system was implemented, up until the original game god shut the game down because I said I wouldn't kiss his ring. The site admin, Treason and I made Dark Metal. Masquerade reopened. Life went on.
-
You're so old.
-
The world also didn't have a "MediaWiki". It had many CMS, but they were arcane and clunky and, well, most of them still are.
Your mom was pretty hot back then, too, in her sabertooth bikini.
-
I believe I was on Masq around the same time. Maybe just a bit after. I seem to remember some shit about Caine.
-
Somehow I didn't see any notifications--probably something I did wrong.
@HelloRaptor -- Yes, the game did used to have Mages, but not since the last reboot (2010). Don't know about botches specifically, but the dice code has not been touched much, so I think botches are still done the old way.
@DarkDeleria -- Correct, using Revised, not 20th Anniversary. I have not touched the 20th Anniversary books at all.
@Thenomain -- The Wiki was created for the 2010 reboot of the game. If you played before that, you won't have had / made a Wiki page.

Easy enough to test. Roll like 10 dice at difficulty 10, see if any rolls that include 10s but also have more 1s than 10s, list as a botch. If 1 1 1 2 2 2 3 3 3 10 is a botch, the game is doing it wrong. >_<

Duh-of-the-Day.

Emphasis mine. Either your example is wrong or your description of the botch rule is wrong. (More of a derp than a duh.)
