System dealbreakers

@seraphim73 Yeah, this one for me too. Not a game-breaker (since obv, D&D) but definitely a peeve... especially when newer systems throw it in or layer it unnecessarily on top of a system that could handle it another way (ie margin of success) and there's no history to justify it. People need to l2stats.

@auspice
To be fair, if it's something from Bloodlines the Chosen? It is, essentially, homebrew because that was a fan contest-sourced book. -

Honestly, for as popular as nWoD is, sometimes it drives me insane as a MU*. I get so sick of having to reference websites/PDFs to remember all the different dice pools.
As a filthy casual, this has been a huge barrier to me getting into WoD. There's so many goddamned splat books.
Y'all could just ask me, you know. It's not like I don't have all of the source material, online and .pdf, hot-keyed and for easy access on my computer.

How can I ask you at 2am CST on a Tuesday?!
-
You could ask me earlier than that. Or, y'know, RP and play when I play, you goof.

But I work until 8p CST and have an hour commute.

Not a dealbreaker, but close: anything you can only get at character creation.
It creates an artificial special category that is often seen as part of the balancing of a system, while rarely being that important.

Dwarfism, etc., should be chargen-only. Or racial benefits that come from things you can only choose at character creation.
-
While we're on that subtopic, I dislike any system that lets players unintentionally screw themselves over while trying to make a competent character.
So I'm not referring to, say, merely not twinking/optimizing, or creating a PC who's well rounded, or specifically giving them drawbacks ("a glass jaw boxer"). But something closer to nWoD 1.0 character generation where if you just bought things in the 'wrong' order you could put yourself at a significant drawback compared to someone who knew what to purchase with freebies instead of XP.
CGen shouldn't be a trap.

Except for Traveller. It's actually kind of fun knowing that you could die in chargen. But it's a short series of rolls so it's no big deal.
But I have come to absolutely hate different point distribution systems between chargen and gameplay. Shadowrun has twisted itself in knots trying to have its cake and eat it too, on this front, but I don't see any need for this at all, whatsoever, for the Mu*.

Traveller chargen is best chargen for that reason.
-
@sparks what? You can die IN chargen? I'm not familiar with Traveller

This is why I want my randroll CG.

YOU TOO COULD BE A WASTE MANAGEMENT PRINCESS.

Yeah you get to decide how old you are, and for every X years (3? 4? It's been awhile) past 18 you get to roll on the "tour" table to see what happened to you that tour. You can get skills, promotions, money, contacts, etc. But one of the options is "You die. Start over." The idea (in theory) was to keep min/maxers from just rolling endlessly to max out their char.
-
@WildBaboons I'll send you old version of Traveller Mercenary, High Guard, Scout, and Merchant and you can see how your character fares year by year! AND you can wonder what do these skills do because in the original books, many people weren't clear what the resolution method was!
-
Traveller Cgen was more fun for me than actually playing Traveller, it joins FASA Star Trek and anything Palladium in that regard.
-
@thatguythere I mean, you aren't wrong. The chargen was arguably more fun than the game.
