New forum version

So, the latest version of nodebb is out. The changes appear to be mostly bug fixes/performance (no new features) with a cosmetic overhaul. It's probably not necessary to upgrade it right away, but we'll probably take a look at doing so with the next minor version. For those of you who hate white, the new look won't make you any happier, but feel free to check it out here: https://community.nodebb.org

I like the current thing, but I think that's mostly because it doesn't look like the other forums out there. The fact that it's got the nifty app-icon looking categories appeals to me. I'm sure it'll make no difference in my usage, I just think it looks neat as-is.

I just looked at that link and nearly had a goddamn party in my pants. Somebody involved in this thing finally realized how fucking useless and annoying that opening page is. Hallelujah.

Okay, so a new minor version has gone up and I've set up an instance of it you guys can poke at before I transition to it for the main site. You can log in normally, but it's a db clone, so posting there won't post here and vice versa. You can check it out here.
Unless there are major concerns raised, we'll be shifting over to the new version in a week or so.

@Glitch I thik the fact that quoted text gets smaller and smaller and smaller can be a problem.
But otherwise, I like the new layout and text size a lot more.

I like the old layout and text size. The current one, that we're using right here. The new one looks dinky and kind of bland, and the text is small enough to have trouble with reading it without adjusting magnification of the browser window.
Not a fan.

I'm with @Derp. Not that it really matters, either way, I imagine we'll all get used to the new format quickly enough.

The forums have been updated to the newest version. If you're experiencing issues with css, make sure to clear your cache.

The site went down for a few minutes for another upgrade. It should be a mostly invisible upgrade for most.
