TDM Modern Reskin
-
Just to keep from derailing the SF thread.
Loosely set on doing Chicago as a modern, 2e nwod using the code base from TDM.
Wolf, Vamp, M/M+ is in. I think mage got ripped out/may need work.
I won't add/open mage unless someone reliable/sane wants to come run it.
Concepts I would like to keep:
Multiple praxes.
Cross sphere rp that feels like theme before template. Without the usual segregation that often comes on mylti-sphere games.P.S. @Ganymede - You are a bloodline genius, and when the game gets that far (set city, theme, server up and rebuilding after deconstruction), I would love your input.
-
Are you willing to take old TDM concepts on the new game.
Asking for a friend.
-
Okay.
SunnyJ may be able to help you with the Mage bit, if you wanted it. Or Theno. Or skew.

Old Man Templeton may return.

As long as the concept can wriggle to fit modern instead of post-apoc, I have no problem with people recycling a concept they want to explore and play.
-
I'm here for it.
Can I get a quick and dirty on the multiple praxis idea? In my head, that makes sense for New York with the burroughs and all but Chicago? What do?
-
@taika I was very happy to branch out and try a different sphere. I really liked the post apocalyptic setting cause it was sooooo different.
Lookin forward to Chicago!
-
I'm not 100% set on Chicago - What I want is somewhere with water access and different environmental biomes to play in. Preferably something that hasn't been done yet or in a while.
The dual praxes/multiple praxes on Descent worked as an 'open border; different states and rules/rulers' concept. West was lenient and pushed for rebuilding. East was hardassed, heavy handed, traditional. It opened a 'safe' path for conflict, politicking, espionage, sabotage.
A good example was the diptheria plotline. West gave East access to a library in trade for East to sit back and not kill off sick people. West was working to get a cure. East kept taking out the caravans, so they had longer access to the library. Knowledge that would weaken West's tenuous ability to keep the two factions from outright war.
West was a lot bigger, but mostly farmers. East was small but had heavy fighters. West could keep East tethered for so long as they could keep the East dependent on the trade goods (food, supplies) that East desperately needed for the dense population they had.
So it opened a lot of plot and mischief options with a larger plot arc that could be resolved and roll into the next larger arc.
ETA: I know I suck at politics, I know this is probably pretty obvious and heavy handed -.-

The idea on The Descent was really good for a post-apoc game.
I think Chicago is just fine, but I'm thinking that it needs to be violent. Violent to the level of the Sabbat. Make it almost a warzone, as a result of simmering tensions between lingering crime elements dominated by vampiric factions.
Also, go with homebrew crime families and factions to replace Covenants.
I could tinker with Blood Sorcery for you. I was sort of working on that before for The Descent.
-
All I ask is that the game has someone on the staff who knows Chicago. Thank you.
-
You volunteering, @Waller?

How do you feel about notorious flakes who can only be around Sun - Tuesday, and may want to force Mages to play Nice With Other Spheres (who is also coding an Evannia Game).
Repeat: Notorious Flake.

Chicago could easily be divided between north and south sides. It is pretty much divided that way a lot in RL both economically and culturally.

I would find a partner to work with that can pick up and keep going when you're ready to move on, would probably be the best thing.

Notorious flakes with amazing ideas backed by a less flakey sort would be a pretty solid pairing.

Looking for maps that are easy to turn into a grid, I stumbled on this lovely thing https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b3/Chicago_neighborhoods_map.png
It'd make a nice big grid that can be broken down into smaller maps of the different sections, and work well with the 'neighborhood' type clustering I like for digging.
Domain name has been acquired, a wiki slapped up, and an empty mux running. Just need to get the flat file loaded and start on some wiki work.

@Taika Hey, Taika, I've been seeing this thread and I know you decided to make this game as a reaction to Hadraniel's blunder in SF, but there's a lot about this project that confuses me.
Do you have a mission estatement for this new game? Something you are trying to accomplish with it?
Do you have time to run the game now? Although I didn't play TDM I remember reading more than once about your free time issues. Do you have more time now?
You are talking about this dual Praxis idea, and for someone who didn't play TDM, I wonder what exactly does that mean in terms of splitting the playerbase and creating dozens of offices and demand for NPCs. On that same topic, you have mentioned you are not very good with politics, how does that factor in it?
Not trying to discourage you, at all, but I feel there is a difference between being able to/enjoying/having time to CREATE a game and being able to/enjoying/having time to RUN it. I don't know if you had this conversation with yourself but I am curious about what are you doing to solve some of the apparent issues of TDM.
Wish you luck!

I have more time these days. Baby is in a routine and the 14" incision from the early c-section is healed nicely.
ETA: I posted an example of how the praxes were handled. I feel I have a heavy hand when it comes to politics and am too easily read? Visible? Not subtle? That's why I feel like I suck with politics.
