So it isn't misconduct for a mod over the course of years to rile a poster up by spinning lies against other posters who spoke out against her being a mod.

What is considered mod misconduct?

This is now the second time Auspice has acted out against people here. This is now the second time that, when called on it, she's vanished and let the other mods step up to play shield. This is now the second time posters here have been placed in the situation of seeing the wagons close around her misbehaviours.

Let's have some transparency. Are you working on a three strikes and you're out policy? Will this need to happen again (possibly with other people she's whispering poison to) before she gets a talking to or booted? I don't agree with what @surreality did or how she's handled this but it's out now, in the public eye. What she did is now transparent. Let's have some transparency from the admin side of things, regarding one of the admin's behaviours.

When does it become actionable?

It's a fair request.

I've talked with a number of other members. Some have even come forward to me. I have discussed this matter with them, and promised confidence.

I have already discussed the matter with Arkandel briefly, but intend to do so again when I get back home.

I'm afraid that's all that I'm comfortable with coming out and saying at this point.

Just feel the need to say: I did not create this thread as a 'bash Auspice' thread, or a 'debate the merits of Auspice being a mod here' thread.

I'm sure some folks will find that hard to believe, but it is the truth.

I left her name off it when it was originally created for a reason.

Odds are high no one would have a clue who it was if she hadn't managed to rile me up again until I grarred my head off in a different thread like a hair-triggered fool; snapping and yelling wasn't exactly some grand plan, no matter how bloody Sicilian I am. Like bored, I do not have some grand and elaborate scheme to watch unfold whilst I steeple my fingers, twirl my OMG SHE'S SO SICILIAN LIKE REALLY YOWZA mustache, pet my long-haired cat, and cackle maniacally.

So, while I do have a long-haired cat and I do sometimes cackle maniacally, I wax the mustache into oblivion and do not have a plan here beyond 'fess up, own my shit, take whatever lumps for it people feel are appropriate, and try to do better going forward'.

I think more that this group of people you're talking about wants what they think is right done about it.

Hell, even Surreality upvoted Faraday's words of caution, which informs my belief that Surr is apologizing first and wants the rest of the fallout to be considerate and fair, not slanted toward her own personal desires.

That's not really a fair statement. This is a moderated forum, despite how much some parties don't like that, and I get the distinct impression @Arkandel got dragged into this Remove Auspice thing after this thread and some of the posts had already gone up? Instead of approaching him politely with evidence of misbehavior first, so he also has had to wade through second and third party reactions?

@thenomain The general action taken in these circumstances is usually no action at all, since most folks tend to like to pat themselves on the back about how 'fair' they are, instead of ejecting toxic people from their games and forums. Criticising the mob for actually calling for someone's ouster seems disingenuous to me.

Besides, Surreality often bends over backwards in trying to be overly 'fair', which I attribute to their good character in general, but that's no good when someone like Auspice uses that tendency against them.

We, as MUSHers, tend to be an empathetic lot, and thus often shy away from cracking down on serial abusers. It's necessary to be able to put oneself in someone else's shoes in order to play the variety of characters that we do, but it is too often used for certain types to get away with abusive and toxic behavior.

(Edit: I had no opinion until I recently saw the evidence of the things they were pulling. I am not down with accusations that have no proof, logs, whatever. I also find the gripings about the mob convenient, as it tries to undercut the fact that a large number of people are disgusted with her unreasonable behavior.)

@goldfish I see your reasoning. The problem with what you do is that bad people will sometimes predate on good people like you, and actually hide behind you when stuff gets hot. I know finding people to RP with isn't always easy, but you will end up being abused, and that will hurt the community in the long run.

With boundaries people who have tendencies towards behaving badly can actually be enjoyable to RP with. I have seen remarkable differences in behavior from some folks depending on the administration of a game. The problem is that few people want to set up or enforce those boundaries because it's a lot of unpleasant work with an uncertain payoff. So I understand why it doesnt happen. But most people if they know that things will be enforced can do quite well in a situation where certain behaviors are vigorously enforced aa being off limits, if they are having enough fun on the game that they dont want to lose it.

I wanna make it clear I'm just responding to this post and not as a broad commentary on the whole thread, but:

I know this happens, but I think it's the craziest shit ever. There are a lot of people out there who are fun to play with who aren't also crazy assholes who would abuse people if they were given the inch to do so.
