        There is no technomagic.

        This makes me sad.

        https://spiritlakemu.com/wiki/magic#creating-discovering-spells

This also makes me sad. Here's a firehose of construction:

This game's Wiki is all over the place. It's nice, brief, clever, legible, beautiful, but not consistent. The Character Creation page links to Schools and therefore specific spells, but not to the aforementioned Magic page.

I'm now starting to wonder why the Character Generation page doesn't link straight to this Magic System page, which has the same information and a lot more.

In fact, as magic characters are the focus of the game, I'm wondering why this page isn't more featured.

This isn't a nit-pick, this is outright confusion that can probably be fixed by dumping the 'Schools' page and linking the Magic System page in its place.

        Thank you for the feedback!

@roz Oh, it makes sense. I think every time I see one, it's a reminder of how tech-dependent we've become. As if my phone shouldn't do that all the time. Possibly because I don't see them as much.

So it's likely it's not their fault, they just a visual representation of something that bothers me on a primal level. I left social media for the same reasons.

Also, yeah, the finger germ thing. But not like those little pads where you punch in your pin numbers aren't exactly the same.

I'm definitely going to be giving this a try. If anyone wants to be magic buddies, hit me up. I'll be playing the owner/artisan of a touristy botanicals and beauty shop inherited from her mother.

              I'll be there.

I'm just so tired all the time.

Yaaaas. I am excited to play with you both again.

I do love me a magical food motif. Maybe a baker. With a cupcake shop.

Except I also want to do cool magical things that aren't twee cupcakes.

@saturna Hey hey, my character ALSO moved away for artistic type school things, moved to NYC for a bit, then moved back home. Bit older, though - but we could probably have brushed shoulders in NYC a bit.

We do have a list of high school classes building on the Hooks & Hopes page if people are eyeing ages.

I feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of possible concepts but I'm very excited to play.

@scar @Tat Would this be too dark of a concept? I'm thinking of a musician who rarely speaks and never, ever sings anymore because as a teenager they accidentally sang single-parent to suicide. So they might cast spells through music (is this possible?), but they never ever sing anymore because they are traumatized / convinced their singing voice kills people. (Even if it actually DOESN'T.)

@cobaltasaurus So - darker themes aside - when you're thinking of a concept... keep in mind that magic is just now returning. These characters are not yet familiar with actual spellcraft.

Here's a post on the current state of magic where Beta PCs would be starting: https://spiritlakemu.com/forum/5/80

                        As for casting through music:
"Casting magic is a very personal thing. It almost always requires the focus of physical motion, especially for novices, but that motion varies according to what speaks to the spellcaster. One may utilize movements from a favored martial art, while another's casting may carry the grace of ballet. Only very powerful casters require no movement at all. It does not require speech, though some spellcasters use sound to help focus their magic.

Casting a spell is often accompanied by a visual, auditory, or even olfactory signal such as sparks, a flash of colored light, a chill in the air, or the overwhelming scent of pine. Representative of the caster's favored schools of magic, these personalized accompaniments can evolve and grow over time as the caster finds his/her niche in the magical world. There are even tales of these changing in the wake of a traumatic event." https://spiritlakemu.com/wiki/magic#casting-spells

@testament I legitimately love tablet POS systems, especially when they just swing it around on the stand and you can SIGN right on the TABLET and tip if you want. It makes me happy.

I'm just here to make the cinnamon rolls that are as big as your head and other sweets. I don't... alright, I'll check out a customer while the old dude's on his smoke break.

I think I may pass on my baker with a foodie mage concept already in place. (Not a big deal, there are so many ideas floating around in my brain)

I'm rolling around the notion of a vet who helps people's familiars; she has a local practice but maybe also does volunteer work with wildlife.

My concern with this concept is that I imagine lots of people can heal the physical bodies that house their familiar spirits, so do they really need a vet?

@cupcake I haven't heard any murmurs of another vet concept in the works yet! Access to familiars is little ways down the line (still fully attainable! BUT~) so I wouldn't recommend setting an entire concept around that? There /are/ going to be plenty of instances of new magical creatures being introduced through portals. I'm sure that sort of expertise could come in handy then!

Things to consider: a vet would probably mean a commuter job to Granby and not Grand Lake proper. Grand Lake population is like, under 500 people.

@scar hmm. Can you workshop the idea a little with me? I really like the idea of someone who thinks their voice is cursed... (I apologize for slowness on uptake of theme, I worked 12hrs on like 3hrs of sleep cause it was national championship last night.)
