Now, all of the sudden, he's back as sucka white boy MC slow-jam rap battle heel John Cena, which is pretty much a muscular millionaire wearing a chain around his neck and snapback hats.

So...sign of the end for Cena's relevancy? Not so relevant anymore that he had to dig into a shtick that's over 10 years old?

Well, I hear that white people love Post Malone, so --

        @Ganymede LOL yeaaaaah.

I dunno. After years of seeing Cena go from his original shtick to what he's become, I kind of feel like this return to his original thing might be a bit of well...the kids loved this back in 2004 so let's try that again.

Like the well is running dry so the return to the gimmick will either revitalize his career or be the last attempt to maintain relevance when there are so many other good stories going on.

@Ghost Has he done this since Wrestlemania? I don't think it's something that he's going back to. I think it was just a throwback and an excuse to use it against Elias. At least, I sincerely HOPE he's not doing the whole Thuganomics thing for real because... yeah... Jump The Shark... We all know his WWE career is going the way of The Rock's and Batista's anyways, but why end it on such a burning-car-wreck note?

@Jonah42175 Well, he said he'd turned heel with his little rap song thing.

Which is also breaking kayfabe, which has been pretty elastic for a while now with the WWE anyway.

I can't remember if Cena is Raw or Smackdown (I think Raw), but I haven't seen him since Wrestlemania. We'll know for sure eventually.

I thought both? But admittedly I am not a huge fan. Mostly had friends that were.

From what I understand he'll be making appearances on RAW but his return is mostly for the WWE to push some PPV events using his name, and Cena is there to help bring up some of the other talent who are going to get pushed into the spotlight.

I'm not sure how much ring time that they are going to be able to get for him though. The Duke Nukem movie and the Bumblebee sequel are both supposed to start filming later this year and into early next year. And towards the end of the year might be occupied making the press junket tour for the Doctor Doolittle movie that he's in with RDJ that is supposed to come out around Christmas.

Now I am not sure how much time the press stuff for a movie takes but I remember that all this stuff seriously cut into Dwayne Johnson's ring time when he was making the transition between careers so I am presuming the same thing may happen here.

The Rock hasn't changed a bit. His schtick works just fine. Same with Sting, when he came back. The Hardy Boys. And so on.

When veterans return, it isn't to start something new: it's to promote by bringing up the past. The gimmicks are part of who they are, so they have to go back to the gimmicks, especially if they are part-timing it, like Cena is.

                      Prediction.

The Viking Experience is the new stable.

Sarah Logan is married to one of the members of the Viking Experience. Ruby Riott is on Raw and Liv Morgan went to Smackdown.

Riott Squad will break up and the break up will focus on Logan betraying Riott and joining the Viking Experience.

I feel like this is a pretty easy assumption to come to

This year was my first time watching NJPW's G1 Climax (or, really, getting into NJPW period), and it was incredible.

Twenty (okay, like nineteen, if we're being totally honest; Bad Luck Fale is firmly, solidly 'fine') top-flight wrestlers; a round robin format; and an opportunity for talented individuals to showcase ther talents in singles match-ups, which - thanks to the company's tag-heavy undercards, are not overly common - made for a summer of entertaining watching that, along with some forays into AEW and GCW (Game Changer Wrestling-- think 'ECW, ver. 2019'), made the desperate, gasping flailing that the WWE has been engaging in lately look even sillier than it otherwise might have.

Jon Moxley (fka Dean Ambrose) in particular had an amazing run through the tournament, in which he demonstrated a ton of stylistic flexibility without forgetting the high-energy brawling that that made him who he is to begin with. He's been absolutely killing it since leaving the WWE, and here in particular he seemed rejuvenated, as if he was having the time of his life-- even when one of his matches immediately descended into goofy shenanigans involving DVD sales and turnbuckle fights.

I'm excited for what comes next with New Japan, especially since it's 'a junior heavyweight tournament featuring, among others, the(/a?) former Sin Cara/Mistico, who can, in fact, work if he's not mired in the WWE system'.
