@chibichibi How much of the game centers around the bureaucracy of mage-government? I like mage as an idea (on its own, not mixed with other games) but MU* mage tends to center around a certain group of players (usually Guardians of the Veil) who decide the theme of Mage is making sure nobody actually plays Mage, via charters with a hundred bylaws.
Quiet weeping my plots, my sphere, my funtimes....
Also someday I'll be making a character on @chibichibi's game.:)

@Cobaltasaurus Feel free to make a PC! I'm going to be running small scenes to advance plot as much as possible since I have a bunch of free time right now.

@RDC
Why did you summon me?
NOLA was a fine game and setting. I liked it just fine, but lost interest when it appeared that everyone else lost interest. Things like this happen. I couldn’t tell you why things faded.
If you wanted to open it again, that’d be fine. But the game seemed to have a distinct lack of direction.

The last time I'd looked into opening a game (before SGM), I had a whole bunch of people jump up offering to help Staff. But because Faraday has done such an excellent job with Ares, there's not a terrible amount of overhead needed once things are moving.
So every person who offered, I told: I will be requiring every Staffer to run plot.
And every single one backed out.
So. I'll volunteer for a bunch of games where the concept is something I kind of want to play on, but I am up-front about EXPECTATIONS. Specifically... if you want a queue monkey? Someone to sit down and handle more +jobs than every other staffer combined, so long as they are:
- Equipment
- XP spends
- Some build request that isn't code-intensive
- Character generation
- Maybe some other stuff, I dunno
Then I'm your staffer. This is the shit I did on Shadowrun: Denver.
How do I know I did more +queue/+job work than every other staffer combined? Staff-side of Shadowrun: Denver has the single greatest motivator in the modern world:
A LEADERBOARD
Plots? I mean. I would give ideas to other players to run plots. Or I'd sit my staff-bit in a plot room to witness it all as it unfolded, and then reward the players instantly with their Karma and/or equipment loot (rather than have them go through the queue/job process of submitting said plot for review, and potentially a week-month wait for the plot log to be edited, submitted, reviewed by the first staffer to jump on the queue... who might then drop the ball for 1-3 weeks...)
Running plots? I'm pretty horrible at. Between my abysmally slow pose speed, tendency to fall asleep at the keyboard, and/or get distracted by... anything else going on around me... All that shit makes me pretty terrible at RP in general, let alone be in charge of running a plot.
Which is not to say that I will never run a plot. But it's got to be something I'm SUPER interested in. Gonna have Mummy? I got Mummy plot (ideas) for days. And hell, maybe even the energy to run them. Other stuff... dunno, it'll depend on specifics of a game or something, I dunno. Hell, it'll even depend on the turnaround time of chargen - my interest is fickle, and if I don't get to scratch the itch on my NEWEST, LATEST, MOST AWESOME IDEA quickly enough, I'll end up moping and probably not getting stuff done, anyway.
Oh, and my work schedule makes my availability just absolute shit. So that's a factor.
All that got rambly. Um. I'll just be over here, continuing to offer to focus on all the little stuff, leaving everyone else open and undistracted to do PLOT themselves.

If literally no one is capable of meeting your expectations, it is probably time to examine the expectations in question, determine which are vital and which you can compromise on, and go from there.
ETA: For example, people who do well with administrative work.are not always (or even usually) the people good at storytelling, as they are very very different skill sets (and it's the same in reverse). Expecting one person to be good at both limits your possibilities a lot, when you can find highly qualified candidates for the individual tasks a lot easier.

But I think @krmbm and I have some better luck by being non-WoD games. I feel like finding STs these days on WoD is a lot harder, unfortunately. I'm not sure if its burnout or just the way that community has shifted.
It's because you can't win in WoD. You always piss someone off, or become the target of the latest social outrage. It's exhausting.

Since when was winning the goal of roleplaying?

I think 'winning' these days is 'was in an enjoyable plot where everyone had fun.'
-
@Arkandel I got the impression that was more of a 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' kind of not-winning

I dunno, I seem to recall people rabidly going after WM logs on Tyme, with a heavy undercurrent of "I will end you" in some of those discussions.

But what if someone didn't pronate their wrist!?

(intense, mad cackling)
I couldn't find a gif that really conveys my reaction to that. I'd forgotten all about the 'pronate' bitching. lol
-
@dvoraen I don't recall wrist pronation-related bitching. Is my mind blocking it for a reason?
-
I didn't even play there when it was a thing and I heard about it from a group of players cackling over it. It totally was a thing.
-
...someone explain this? It sounds amusing, but ???
-
@surreality A Moment in Tyme was an RP-enforced MUD that (for a significant period of its existence) had no combat code. All fights were determined by your "Weaponmastery Score," which was based on logs of posed-out fights which were graded by Staffers (or players with high-Weaponmastery characters under the direction of Staffers). The "better" your posing, the higher your Weaponmastery score went. Needless to say, this was very subjective.
I too have vague memories of some players of high-Weaponmastery characters getting very upset if you didn't use 'pronated' or 'supinated' to describe how you were holding your hands/forearms/weapon.
-
@Seraphim73 Oh sweet merciful mother of wankery. (Which, I suppose, could be pronated or supinated as well, if we're getting technical about it... )
