Me: "After I leave, you'll have to learn what grammar is."
Coworker: "Grammar? That's that stuff those college educated folks use."
Me: "No, no. It's what you put under your cheesecake."Our coworker just slowly sat forward and put her head in her hands. He and I have been in rare form today.

Seeing a job for the parent company of the job you loved having an opening. Knowing you have friends at that company that will be willing to put in a word for you, and yet still being scared of change and not being able to pull the trigger on applying for that job because of that fear.
Doubly stupid because you already have a job so really have nothing to lose.
Why does my brain hate me?
-
Send in an application. See if you get an interview. See if you get an offer. Then worry.
-
@Snackness Yeah, it sounds so easy when YOU say it Tell that to my crippling fear of rejection.

The worst that can happen is nothing. No reply. Is that going to leave you in a worst place than you are now?
Application experience is valuable in itself... So you'll have gained that, and be in a better position for next time.
Best case, you get a job! Do it!
-
@JinShei Yeah, I know. Stupid brain meats just like to fuck with me when it comes to things like this.
-
@Alamias I know. Believe me. You can do it xx
-
How about 'It takes 30 nos to get to a yes', and make it one of your nos to get out of the way? Maybe? Coping strategies are so different for different people. I hope.you can beat your brain weasels into submission.
-
I just send out dozens of resumes a day and assume every single one will never get a reply and go to bed insanely depressed.
That's MY coping method. -
For what it is worth, I bit the bullet and at least talked to my friend about how to apply. Steps were taken, as small as they were.

Monday meeting got moved from 11:30 to 3. Partner sent out message to firm saying they expect everyone to be there.
My day ends at 3.
shrug
Update: I'm getting a free ride home! \○/

Dear co-worker- While I am glad you trust me, and think I am smart enough to not freak out - it is NOT cool for you to just vanish for an hour+ at a time, other than like at Lunch. I am not as trained up as you are, and you know a LOT of things I need you for when things go wrong.
-
TMW you wake up at 5am to get to work for a 630am "town hall meeting" only to find no one is at work because they intended to sleep in and watch the replay at 8am.
-
TFW you are on a work webex call and it is annoyingly set to a scroll through video display of people on the call and of course your camera pops up just as you inhale rather than drink your water so everyone is treated to you spewing water like a whale coming up for air. Real classy! At least the Big Boss wasn't on this one. And it was on mute. Guess it is going to continue to be a day.

Putting in for a much better job in your current workplace that pays better and has way better benefits, and having lovely interviews with people you already work with, and everything seems to be going well...
Only to then be told that you are universally disqualified from taking that position because the job you work currently may create an ethical conflict at some point in the future which would make someone else work a tiny bit harder for a finite period of time.
So are you seriously telling me that I literally cannot move into a job that you're now going to hire someone off the street for because I already work here, when overall policy is to promote from within and reward those that already work here? And I am the only person in this entire place that this applies to?

When you have a coworker that you can bullshit back and forth about a meme asking if it is "For fuck sake" or "For fuck's sake". And they're actually pondering it.
-
-
@Tinuviel that is my stance. Aka "For Pete's sake".

Exactly. It's grammatically possessive. "For the sake of fuck/Pete." So "for fuck's sake."

Good on them, if it's for a work email you've got to be professional, after all!
