If it is, I've been paying attention to that story all day. It's been fascinating.
It is, I also bought in with some disposable money because it helps me feel like I can tell "the man" to F off. XD Anyway, I won't pollute this thread with this, and I hope @Cobaltasaurus has a really interesting project in the works!

I asked @Pyrephox "Ok, what if fictional Second Ireland but steampunk lords and ladies."
And Pyrephix said, "Ok, but what if metaplot secret."

@rucket Well @Tributary is campaigning for India instead. Lol.

@cobaltasaurus I lack a lot of knowledge about Indian mythology and religious beliefs to really get a grasp on what plot possibilities might exist there, but something not-European could be pretty rad!

What about Meiji Japan but with steampunk Lord & Ladies? It was an up-and-coming power, eager to prove itself; it was industrializing rapidly; and they altered the system of nobility to resemble something more like Britain and Germany, so you had somewhat recognizable styles of nobility. Then again, you're expecting players to be able to play steampunk Meiji Japan as something other than a caricature, and that's a tall order. Maybe stick with European states.

Any pseudo-historical setting is going to be a kind of a caricature. But definitely, when it comes to cultures that are vastly different to our own, it can become something akin to cultural insensitivity through ignorance. Which is less bad when you're at a table with your friends, rather than on a freely accessible internet thing.

Tripartite Struggle for inspiration only would be interesting. Three empires struggling (fighting to regain the 'throne' in the middle) to fill the void of a once great Empire, after his successor knocks off the Chinese emissary coming to collect dues (I mean tributary) and such, Bhutanese and Napalese infantry and cavalry ready to invade on behalf of China. But then, like @Tinuviel said, insensitivity would come in even without meaning too.
