      Without spoilers this time.

I enjoyed Episode 5 - in fact I think it was the best one yet. This was for a simple reason; they finally started to slow the fuck down and let the characters breathe, develop and interact with each other.

It was also the first time I thought Warders - although we haven't quite seen the Gaidin per se yet - was characterized differently than the books but it felt more like fleshing them out than just departing from canon.

The one lingering concern; there are two episodes left. How will the pacing work to close the season out?

      Well, 3 episodes left...

But. They introduced Loial, which is their 'fast travel' shortcut. So, the only important beats left are :

      -Clearing up Matt's problem.
      -Reuniting with Egwene and Perrin
      -Discovery/Explanation of the Ways
      -Travel to Shinear
      -Eye of the World

A fast pace, but certainly doable.

IDK how I feel about the ogier design. Loial looked like just kind of a lumpy dude? Maybe it'll grow on me as he's in more scenes, though.

@runescryer Well, and that little issue of settling who the Dragon Reborn is.

Frankly at this point I don't quite understand the online furor about it. It's pretty obvious they aren't changing that character's identity, come on.

Finally have caught up to Episode 5 and thus been able to read this without being spoilered!

I am a long-time fan of the books, and I agree with a lot of what is said above, particularly about Perrin's wife. Though, most of the "hammer vs axe" stuff was his own inner dialogue in the books, so I can sort-of understand the need to externalise it.

The thing I've found most about the series though, is it's teaching me all the wrong ways I've been saying words in my head! Like the mention of Birgitte with the girl's doll, in my head that's been more of a 'birrzhitte' rather than 'bir-gi-ta'. That kind of thing. It's fun 😄

I was spoiled by listening to the Kate Redding and Michael Kramer audio books haha. Listening to those after reading the series really helped hone a lot of pronunciations.

I wonder which/how many characters are going to be amalgamated... or have already been.

For example I don't think we'll see an Elaida at this point since Liandrin has been established so much. Some of the Whitecloaks at least will get the treatment for sure.

This is probably going to be necessary though. As a non-book reader it may be hard to keep track of all these freakin' people especially in a somewhat short first season.

We do need a sword-training montage at some point though!

Okay, so. I've had conversations and seen theories and I'll respond in spoilers because these are book spoilers, so anyone who doesn't know the material but is into the show should not click!

There's two camps that I'm seeing and divided upon.

                      1. Liandrin is a combination of the aforementioned character & Galina Casban. Both red ajah, both black ajah, but Galina isn't the most important character and she is in later books whereas Liandrin really is not really all that active later on. This could allow for them to keep the same actress and give us her villainy for longer.

                      2. Liandrin is a combination of Liandrin & Alviarin. This opens the door to Elaida coming in from Caemlyn later on and thinking the tower is a shit show and we already know Liandrin has been plotting. This changes Alviarin's normal ajah from White to Red, but also they are both black ajah and would keep Liandrin around as a villain for a lot longer as well.

A core plot point is Elaida is not black ajah. She has a lot of other issues, but she's not a darkfriend. One of the other two probably makes more sense because you can combine some darkfriends together and still allow Elaida to come and do her thing.

Yeah I agree. The fact Elaida isn't Black Ajah actually makes her interesting; she makes mistakes and she's greatly manipulated by actual darkfriends but in her mind she's doing the right thing.

However there is no saying Liandrin needs to be Black either on the show. They might give us that subtlety and introduce other Black Sisters. This also has the advantage that we, as book readers and show watchers won't know for sure who's who, which would be a nice touch.

The problem with WoT MU*s is that we as fans disagree on just about everything about how they should be done.

Which Age (or where in the timeline) should they be set at? Playable canonical characters? Allow male channelers? Hell, even allow diverting from the books in any significant way?

You ask ten well-meaning fans, you'll probably get a variety of answers on all of the above and more. And for many of us any way other than what's in our heads is wrong and we won't play it. 🙂

Moiraine did tell the kids that they had to go to the Eye of the World, because that's where the Dark One's prison is, and whichever one of them is the Dragon needs to repair the seal.

Also, for that don't know the books inside and out, or need a refresher, the Amazon X-Ray transparency really does help while you're watching. For example, Moiraine and Siuan talk about Gitara, and the X-Ray info box explains about Gitara having a Foretelling when the Dragon was born that blinded her; thus, that's how they know almost exactly how old the Dragon is.

The horn for the Great Hunt to call the Heroes to the Last Battle is hidden in the center of the Eye of the World. With the 5 in tow, they'd intended the Dragon Reborn to use the horn and bond it to him so he could call them to the Hunt before the Dark were able to get their hands on it. Things did not exactly turn out as they had planned.

Yeah, I think the best way to go with a WoT game would be to sell it as 'a different Turning of the Wheel'; which is basically what the show is doing. Have a lot of the basics (The One Power, the Dark One, the Dragon, the Forsaken, etc.), but also make some changes for the game to be more playable (men can be Aes Sedai; both men and women can be corrupted by using the One Power, just not as severely as in the books...)
