Which MU* telnet clients are still popular?
-
I didn't like the dual entry at first, and now I love it. It's great if I need to page or be annoying on channel while writing poses.
-
That's one of the big draws for me, yeah. When I'm working on a job, I like to be able to take my time and answer things that come up along the way without having to worry about copypasta nightmares. But also like the general look of it. To me, it just has a smoother look than MushClient. When I open up MC now, it looks blocky and harsh.

I started out with about as basic a version of raw telnet as you could imagine when I was in college. Dating myself here. I still have some logs from back then that I copied over to a few disks, and the character formatting junk that showed up in front of each line is a major hassle to clean up, so I kind of gave up on doing that ages ago.
For a while I used Zmud and that worked pretty well, but it's been SimpleMU for me ever since. I did give TF a look once, but I just didn't like its interface. I haven't tried anything else unless you count the mobile telnet apps on devices, but I rarely use my devices for that. If I do, it's Mukluk for me on the phone, and I think I got Blowtorch to work passably well on my Kindle.
I never did pay for SimpleMU (bad, I know!) but to be honest the base version does the stuff I care about it doing (including the spawns on a game that it was beneficial to use them on) and 99.9% of the time I don't need a spell-checker. Not sure how I ended up being the good speller when my father and brother never were, but I'm not complaining.
The bit about Potato working with https links might be enough for me to give it a peek sometime, though.

SimpleMU. I used TinyFugue for a long time, but I don't currently have a shell account. My husband does, and he still uses TF.
I tried Potato a couple years ago, and I can't quite remember what made me go back to SimpleMU anymore, but I know something was a dealbreaker.

One other thing I THINK I can recall Potato not doing is adding in blank lines between poses in logs. Potato users, can you confirm? I used Potato briefly but it was a year or two ago before my job switched my computer to a Mac.
-
I liked the colors of potato but for me it was shift F1 and Shift F2, being able to convert line breaks and spaces into %r and %b's that keeps me using SimpleMU.
EDIT: And Control-P to cycle through what I'd written before.
-
@Lithium I forget where it's hidden, but I remember I remapped the same feature in Potato to ctrl-p when I switched from SimpleMU to Potato, since the whole cycling through previous inputs is a big help.
-
@Lithium I'm actually pretty sure you can do both of those things, they're probably just mapped differently by default.

In Potato it's Ctrl-

I sure as hell have not been able to figure out how to add blank lines to logs on it. But I use log-cleaners so aggressively if I'm posting anything (http://logcleaner.aresmush.com/ mostly) that I don't notice much, since that does it for me, so I haven't spent a ton of time trying.

I've been using BEIPMu* on my Windows 8 box and Blowtorch on my Android device; works thus far.
I do not recommend MU*ing on a smartphone unless you have a bluetooth keyboard. My forearms and wrists were afire with pain after one grueling 6-hour session on my Android.
I'm a computer purist, and rebel with every particle of my being over the emphasis these days of smartphones and tablets replacing a good old box with a monitor and peripherals. My first box ever was a 386, and I will end my life clinging to a classic setup.
I might get one of those neat VR headsets, but I will continue to use a tower setup, otherwise.

Another vote for Atlantis here. Mac is awesome, Atlantis is awesome. If I had to go back to Windows (please don't make me!!) I'd use SimpleMu like I did for 2 decades.
-
Yeah, I use BeipMU*. It's simple, low-key, and doesn't explode. They updated the interface recently too, so there's no longer those buttons at the top either.
hey guys remember pueblo

Potato is written by a MUSHer, and was modeled after SimpleMU, which was modeled after TF.
-
I primarily use MushClient. SimpleMU* I've used but have never been able to get my hands on a code.
I do like potato, but I haven't mastered spawn windows yet.
From work lately I've been trying out a chrome addon called DuckClient, and I like it so far.
-
@Griatch FWIW, with AresMUSH I decided to explicitly test with Potato, SimpleMU and MUSHClient on Windows, and Potato and Atlantis on Mac. This was based on informal polls of MU users. I use Atlantis personally.
-
On an Android client, Mukluk is the way to go. Combine with a swiping keyboard, like Swiftkey or Swype, you might manage to survive. A bluetooth keyboard is essential.
SImpleMU* is my preference for the insertion of spaces and carriage returns, cycling through poses, and inline spellchecking. It's abandonware and does not support 256+ colours, which also proves to be a drawback.
Potato gets close to this but it doesn't spellcheck while I'm typing.

My understanding is that Potato can do this, but you have to set it up. Something something it doesn't do it out of the box because it's cross-platform and they don't handle dictionaries the same something something idk. There are instructions somewhere.

IIRC that was my dealbreaker with it.
-
I tried potato but I hated it so much I bought a macbook so I could use Atlantis.

@Arkandel Discovered by accident that the Duck addon for Chrome actually does, complete with right click to select the right word function. Which was nice.
