You know that cliche scene in a movie where someone unskilled is forced to do a delicate operation while the real professional is stuck having to walk them through it?

That was @Thenomain and I getting BITN restarted.

How long will a character live with the Disabled (Persistant) condition? Because I got a muse that won't shut up.

Un, it depends really. If they investigate hauntings and such, maybe a long time. If they go tracking werewolves through the woods probably not long

Oh good to know. I didn't want my carefully constructed concept to be killed carelessly. (Say that three times fast.)

Okay guys be real. I have never played WoD in any form, but I am smart and can read things and am good at asking questions politely. And a bunch of folks are clearly excited about this. Should this be the time I try it?

@Roz It's definitely the place to try things out, I would think. Since it's mortals only, there's not anywhere near as much reading or stuff to learn as there would be in a game with supernaturals. That in itself is a huge plus when dealing with a new system and setting.

                        Oh fucking well.

                          I concur.

What's also good is that Chronicles of Darkness is "blank slate." And that the game's wiki is extensive and thorough.

Plus, the crew on staff are good people. And there will be people around to help you understand some mechanics.

Some of the CoD stuff regarding investigating and social maneuvers are a bit a tricky, but most people aren't terribly familiar with them.

The other good thing about it is that the rest of the books... they don't matter at all.

All the characters are humans, and monsters are monsters, they don't have to follow the rules from the other books. /THAT/ was the greatest potential in the nWoD or CoD or /whatever/ you want to call it, of all the changes in the setting. At least to me.

The idea that we're all humans first, and then possibly turn into monsters, lead for an awesome supernatural horror setting where the characters could start human, but who knows where the story would go. It was awesome.

Then they had to go and ruin it with Promethean, where the characters don't start human... then came Demon and I went bleh, and all excitement for CoD went away with the advent of the God Machine Chronicles.

Oh well, still looks like it could be a fun game. I might try it sometime but I wish it all the best luck.

Not surprisingly, Demon and Promethean are, and were, my least favorite expansions.

I love love love LOVE Promethean. And yet, despite a hard on for the God Machine as a concept, Demon doesn't do it for me.

I love Demon. I've heard the "from human to monster" argument before, but it doesn't really strike the same chord with me. I don't know--I don't think the gameline--as in, the entire thing, all games inclusive--should be limited by that particular aspect of theme (and it clearly isn't), so I am okay with it.

What BITN has going for it is that it really doesn't care about the other books, so the reading is minimal. It doesn't even give most of Mortal Remains (the Hunter update for GMC) much lip service since it ignores all its fluff.

BITN has the potential to become its own thing, which is really great.

Just a heads up, BITN is not going to seem like your average CofD/WoD/etc experience, because you are not playing a Monster Protagonist.

@tragedyjones That's cool, I'm not saying anyone shouldn't like a setting or game system or splat or whatever. Just was sharing my opinion and why I think bump is going to be a great game. Because it is human centric, and that's not something that people are used to. It shakes up the comfort zones and opens up crazy stories beyond typical supernatural politcs.

If you've ever watched Supernatural, it's closer to that. There are monsters. And there are people who hunt them.

Many of them are amateurs at it to begin with, the monsters on their own are stronger and better positioned, and they're all screwed.

                                            So that's about it.
