I liked Scion in theory but the MUSH I played of it was... pretty cray. If you weren't in with the (admittedly few) staff, you had zero chance for advancement. At all.

Thematically... It was kind of a more serious version of Percy Jackson except without the Legion and without Camp Half-Blood. Which I could get behind but the stories...

Hard to do in large scale format without killing off huge chunks of player base. Which, is not inherently bad imho, if it furthers the story.

@ThatOneDude Scion was like a half assed mix of Aberrant + Exalted + WoD. It had some neat ideas but overall was to scattered and unfocused in my opinion. It was trying to be to many things at once.

Is this old scion or the current one?

Cause if you spoke about nWoD I'd ask 1e or 2e...

Then when it's all over and the rest of you are ready for Dead Animal Pickup, I'm gonna go balls deep into Dahl. But only because she asked me to. Sweet-like. - Riddick (2013)

@Bobotron I don't care much about game systems. I just want to play Scion: the concept over Scion: the system. Hell, I'd be fine playing Scion with pure traits.

@ThatOneDude The "current" Scion isn't released in any form yet. The new system is still being developed, and I think we'll be seeing the Trinity Continuum stuff first, if I recall correctly.

Ugh, Buffy. I tried running a Buffy game but...players ran me right off. I hate to be "that guy" but every day was something new and horrible for me to deal with. I allow Highlander Style immortals but that's not good enough, I need to allow 1,200 year old Highlander style immortals who get extra points for combat stats you know, for reasons.

I allow player created demons with very few restrictions...welcome to the club of all combat stats getting straight +5's and every demon being immune to all types of damage.

It was a nightmare running that game for even the brief time I ran it. Everyone wanted to be THAT special snowflake.

While that is not entirely fair (I did run into a number of great people and had some good scenes) I would warn anyone looking to get into a Buffy game that "special snowflake syndrome" will run rampant.

All that said I do have a Buffy game kind of ready to go and would be willing to host it and work with people on it. I just won't run it myself.

I really, really like the theme of WoD. The theme being, it's real life, but there's vampires and werewolves and shit all over the place. That's cool. I enjoy that a lot.

But I think WoD is deeply flawed and, well, I'm not sure it's keeping well. Are there competitors out there with a similar theme? If not, how much fun do you guys think it would be if someone were to create one? (Or another one, if one already exists)

I'm not sure if you answered elsewhere, but was it that is deeply flawed?

I remember looking at that game and shying away from it when I saw the Highlander-style immortals, actually. Not that I guess it's a terrible idea, I just didn't get how it jived with Buffy or even more generic horror tropes. I was curious about the reason for including them, like if they had some importance to some kind of metaplot or something. Though if it's just 'Highlander's cool' that's fair enough.

It was a combination of really liking them and liking the way they were integrated into the Buffy-verse. I still play one in my TT game. I think they fit very well into the B-Verse.

I love Highlander style immortals. I play one in our TT oWoD game as well.

Unfortunately they are an example of something that I think works well in a TT setting but translates poorly to a MU.

I don't know if its been mentioned, but isnt there a Harry Dresden game around, too? Using the Harry Dresden system.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure if you made an original theme urban fantasy game, and it wasn't terrible, people would be happy to play it.

It is a system made by White Wolf that should answer the question.
Like all White Wolf games I tend to find myself loving it in spite of the system not because of it.

I would love a urban fantasy game that moved away a bit from the baggage of the WoD. I'd really like something that took the fun stuff from Anita Blake (namely, no masquerade, and supernaturals having to try and integrate with the "real world" with all the messiness that entails), without getting bogged down in the soft porn. I mean, we're MU* players, we can (and will) bring our own porn.

There was a non WoD urban fantasy game set in NYC, not sure if it is still around I saw the wiki a couple of years ago read through it thought it looked neat but alas it was system-less and there for not my bag. I will see if I can find the web page again.

Edit: Google is my friend http://www.nycmush.net/ Webpage does not look like it has been updated in a while , no other clue about the game.

Screw it. Stargate MUSH. The new wormhole only goes to an Urban Fantasy address. Worlds forever linked. One normal, one very similar... with monsters.

@icanbeyourmuse One of my favorite oWoD games (CrackMUX) had highlander style immortals. It was very much a sandbox though. The people were stuck in this city, and the government didn't /care/ what happened inside the city. It was like Arkham City in a way.

Was a fun game, lots of ICA=ICC. I played a Highlander Immortal who got pretty good (Quickening 5) but then got taken out by a 7th gen Malkavian and while incapped another immortal chopped off my head.

@Lithium It might be amusing to do it with immortals from WoD. Especially if its ones that come back to life too. IT might be pretty awesome using Sin-Eaters too.

THIS WOULD BE SO AWESOME AMG.

I want a Stargate mush. There was one once upon a time, but I don't know how long it lasted or anything, I tried to play there when I was stupid-young and didn't really know wtf I was doing.

Normal world + world similar but with monsters = complete win. Like I do not have words for how awesome that would be to play.
