MU-Gateway.com

Does anyone frequent this place any more? I seem the same 10-15 people logged in, and the activity level seems very, very low compared to a decade ago when it was /the/ place to go for finding a new MUSH to play on.
What resources do you guys use, other than here and word of mouth, to find or advertise new games? MuConnect, MudStats, mushcode.com?

I still log in to OGR (still feels wrong to call it Gateway) and MUS*H a handful of times a month to check the boards. To my knowledge there's still no better social box doing what they do, for better or worse. The embassies on OGR don't seem to be maintained anymore, but benign neglect is maybe preferable to that brief time that crazy person Ra had taken it over.
The MUSH/MUX list on mushcode.com is what I tend to use to find active games.

I mostly rely on word of mouth these days, plus here. Some combo of the two. I wasn't even aware OGR/Gateway was still around. What's the address?
-

I sit around idle on there. But people do post ads pretty regularly on there, even if it's the same ads over and over.
I spend time on the Penn dev MUSH and shoot the shit and get code help, mostly.
If I'm looking for games, I try mushcode.com, mudstats and mudconnect.

Old topic.. I know.. I frequent OGR too (still think of it that way).. Does Ra ever log in?
I remember being on an e-mail distribution list with him, a few others and Sio when she was thinking of closing it and he was pitching his idea for it. He was so gung-ho about it.. Then after he got control, I /never/ saw him on. Ever.
Actually makes me sad because that place had potential.

@Kosh He made me a staffer there out of the blue for events planning. When I asked him for details on what sort of events he had in mind, and if there was any procedure for running and planning them, I never got information back. Ever. He just threw me a bit and vaporized.
Haven't been on there in years.

I stop in every so often just to... Actually, I'm not sure why I bother any more. Habit? Though I did look there to find out what happened to WORA but no one posted there about this place. I'm still holding a grudge about that. You know who you are.

Habit is why I keep going back. And it just kills me every time.. And I always see when Ra was on last. Which is never.
I've been tempted, over the years, to fire up a similar-type MU*. Not sure what level of interest there would be in it. In the process of getting a HOST and server setup to putt around on, but I'd be ready and willing to do an OGR-type thing.
Does Ra ever log in and talk to people?? @JaySherman , do you know? After he took over I never saw him talk or go !dark.
-
Please do. Another OGR sort of place would be fantastic. Just make sure it's more OGR and less Mu-Gateway and Storyteller's Circle.

@Sunny It's been something I have been toying around with in my head for the better part of 6-7 years. Ever since Ra drove it into the ground, I've wanted to do it.
I ran the last Babylon 5 MUSH, haven't done in the way of game running since then. But I'd be up for getting this off the ground. If anyone is interested in assisting, send me a private message.

I used to check out OGR regularly. I'd look at embassies. I'd read the boards. If a game went down, I knew I could find the people there. It was a good resource.
-
You are awesome. What sort of help are you going to need? I'm pretty much tapped out for resources personally right now, but I still have the ability to hunt folks down to help. So! What do you neeeeeeeeed to assist in getting it off the ground? Please do. I miss Siobhan.

@Sunny Message me, we'll talk

I have a server that could be used for that. I currently use it only to get around the Great Firewall so much of its capacity is simply unused. I'm willing to throw a user account your way and let you set up a MU*.

Thank you for the kind offer, @WTFE. I appreciate it! I've already taken care of hosting and have the database setup.
Anyone wanting to assist in getting this sort of project setup, send me a message. I know I can't go it alone! And having people who love this type of platform for gaming support it would be great.

@Kosh Well, I stopped logging in years ago. I don't know if he ever logs in and talks to anyone these days, but when he tossed me that staff bit, he talked to me all of twice before evaporating for a couple of months. I just gave up and stopped logging in; I had other things to do and a game to run.

@Rook Actually it's connect.mu-gateway.net 6700
Checked in there to see if could get some text based space for a OLTT situation. Seems like all the commands are still in place there to do that.
