No, I think he's being mistaken for one of the two staffers who ran Eternal Crusade into the ground with their bullshittery. I could be wrong, this is just an assumption, but yeah. That's who I am thinking of.
-
It scares me a little that there's enough options that it's hard to narrow it down.
-
@Apu
There are so many semi-cray L&L headwizzes I can barely keep track. @Lotherio is not someone I count among them, though. -
Oh! I wasn't saying @Lotherio is one of those crazy wizzes, just that I felt I knew who he was being mistaken for.
-
@Apu
Hahaha, same. The sad part is, I actually do have like two or three options on who he could be being mistaken for, and I'm sure there are others I did not personally experience. -
Game of Kings guy is who I think he's being mistaken for.
I'm grateful to whoever drove Eternal Crusade in the ground because I have seethed at that game for a long time for stealing a lot of its 'theme' from another game.
-
This isn't the first time I heard that EC was based off of stollen content. Which game was stollen from?

Ennersea, a D&D game I helped run back in the early 2000's. The map EC uses is Ennersea's map, just modified slightly. A lot of the theme in the game was stolen from Ennersea and modified just in bits and pieces. The person who HeadWiz'd actually collected it all into a supplement book that she has copyright on. I know she was (but I think RL caught up) looking into a cease & desist for EC at one point.
-
@Auspice Gosh! Wasn't aware the theme of EC was based on stolen stuff. This is indeed new for me.
@Lotherio And damn, sorry these wrong rumors are circulating about you. I've played on Realms and always found you to be a nice and helpful staffer, wasn't part of the drama gang. Also played on Game of Kings (without any of those issues), and even on Eternal Crusade (during the drama time).
-
I generally try to avoid drama, and not contribute.
I heard about EC and the cloning. Now that Ennersea was said, it all came clear. I remember nearly playing on Ennersea and being interested in theme but not having the time to learn it. But was involved in other things at the time too; Star Wars 1, playing the last Dragonlance Mu around (one of the first to do episodic RP, one conflict that concluded in weeks to months, then fast forward a generation to the next conflict, new theme influenced by player characters and their actions in the prior conflict), then eventually Redemption.
-
-
Ah. I had heard that the theme and stuff was stolen but I didn't know of the other game. Man... now I feel guilty for having staffed on EC.
-
@Apu No need for guilt, you did not knowingly steal anything. You offered labor in a good faith way.
You shouldn't feel guilty, you should feel used. And angry. And strike down those you misused your good will.

You must strike down your enemies, feel your anger, join the dark side.
-
It baffles me that game-runners do this, especially with all the documentation of past games that still exists online (iirc, 'Game of Kings' copied stuff from the old Crossroads MU* wholesale, too). And given that the same players migrate to games in the same theme...you're gonna be found out.
It's such a basic show of disrespect.
-
I played on EC, albeit very briefly. Once I had been told about the theme lifting was one thing. And realizing how Nermal and Hobbes were pretty much running the game to make their alts look amazing an cool I decided to jump it.
Although, I have a personal and seething dislike for Nermal. I don't know why, but I have never really disliked a staffer the way I dislike her. I think her whole 'people were mean to me so now I'm a bitch' justification for everything does on MUs makes me really salty.
Addendum: As one of the very first original staffers of Game of Kings(who got tossed by Azrael and then promised to bump my stats up on the down-low if I took the demotion without a word of complaint), that place was doomed before any of us realized it. But also weren't aware of just how crazy Az was. None of us did. Which is the staffer who had build half the grid and in a final act of 'fuck you', she had all the rooms she built and desc'd @chowned to her bit, so when the bit was deleted, so were all the rooms. Whatever staff came after us(there were four of us that bailed before the game even ever opened)I have no idea what happened. I had no association with the game after that point.
-
There was one good thing that came out of my somewhat-friendship/staffing with Nermal and that was my seeing how horribly manipulated I can be by people and twisted into being the kind of person I don't like. Think I became a better person from that.

@Auspice @Auspice , wait you helped to run Ennersea! I remember that MU* (OMG I'd love to have the Supplimental Source book, if that GM wants to put it out!)
You should be able to Google for it. I forget where it is. One of the last webarchive dumps of the site, however: http://web.archive.org/web/20090723222752/http://www.ennersea.net/
The guy who started Eternal Crusade played on Ennersea. I seem to recall he raegquit with a "ROCKS FALL EVERYONE DIES" when a scene he was GMing didn't go his way.I was Symphony on E2 and Tryssm (may be misspelled) on E1.
@Apu - seriously, don't feel bad. I wholly blame the guy who started the place, not people who came later. I was in a similar boat for a BSG game a couple years ago. Got invited on to Staff and once I saw 'behind the scenes,' I learned that the guy who started it (the guy, btw, that Lotherio has been mistaken for I believe!) stole the DB from Orion.

I KNEW ARES @ PEGASUS WAS THE ASSHOLE FROM 'GAME OF KINGS' I KNEW IT I KNEW IT I KNEW IT.
Ahem. Sorry. But that fucking guy, seriously.
Anyone accusing @Lotherio of being him owes some deep apologies.
-
@Three-Eyed-Crow This sounds like a story that needs telling. Not sure how many folks are familiar with the history there. (OK, I admit it. I'm not, and that reaction has me really curious! I am a terrible fucking person... but it may illuminate some of what people think is going on or help @Lotherio defend himself from being confused with the crazy.)
