@Thenomain If by serious business you mean lots of animated boobs and violence, then yes. But it also had a really good soundtrack. I had it on VHS. I'm so old. The magazine has it's moments as well.
-
Oh, no. DMC is pretty over the top. Then again, I liked Panty and Stocking. I'm terrible person.
-
REAL MEN ARE SERIOUS ABOUT TITS AND VIOLENCE.
Really, for as much chiding as other music oriented subcultures get, the heavy metal crowd is just as childish. A biker dude's tattoo fantasy becomes naked so that she can kill an orb.
Good music, tho.

Oh, well. Considering some of the PRPs she's run, I didn't think she'd mind gore, but okay! Never mind!Okay, watch he first episode and if you're feeling alright, watch on, MacDuff.
Things Cobaltasauri can write about but cannot watch on TV:
- Dismemberment.
- Cannibalism.
Granted this is typically in live action stuff, where there is graphic gore vs animated gore.
I got through Akira 3x3 Eyes (or whatever the hell it is), and uh, fuck, I forgot the name of it but it had samurai in it going after a bunch of demons, and there was an old monk that said "Oooh, the cicadas are singing' but he turned out to be a demon later on but was kinda a good guy, and then there was a little girl who sang a riddle and bounced a ball and she turned out to be a demon, and they blew up half her face -- and I think only the female samurai survived.
Granted that was years ago when I was in middle school and I haven't watched any 'gorey' anime in a long time, so I could be more squeamish.
I'll check out some of these and let you guys know what I think. Not positive where to start, so I'll probably pick one at random.

Most stuff already got covered before I got here. Alzie and whoever posted just prior to that hit most of the notes I would have.
Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya
I wasn't super keen on the second season, but the first season was pretty awesome. In large part because the Fate stuff has some of the most absurdly awesome and brutal combat sequences and dropping magical girls into it was A++. Especially since Illya basically gets shit on in super tragic ways in the other Fate stuff, generally, so seeing her as the main character was awesome.
Not really based on your list, because others have already addressed that, I'll toss a few up. Apologies if I repeat anything already offered:
Finished Or At Least One Full Season
Akame ga Kill - Fantasy/Murder/Brutal-but-Awesome
Alchemists of the Dusk Sky- Fantasy/Slice of Life/Sweet
Ao no Exorcist - Modern Fantasy/Demons/Best-Supporting-Character-Ever
Amagi Brilliant Park - Foul mouthed fairy mascots?
Shikabane Hime - Action/Horror
Dusk Maiden of Amnesia - Ghost Story/Humor
Dead Man Wonderland - Supernatural/Horror/Action
Kill la Kill - No description would do this justice.
**Nanana's Collection'' - No this isn't the naval one. Action/Mystery/Puzzles/Ghost?
No Game No Life - NEUTRON BOMB. Also lots of boobs. Humor/Fantasy
Raikuen Tsuihou ~ Expelled from Paradise - VR/Mecha/Post-Apoc
RWBY - Web series. Each season is 2 hours. I have them collected if you want.
Shingeki no Bahamut - Angels/Demons/Fantasy
Soul Eater - Why haven't you watched this already? >_>
Soul Eater Not - Soul Eater prequal-concurrent-ish slice of life + action
Tokyo ESP - Girl Power KIIIIIIIICK
Unbreakable Machine Doll - Wizard Fight Club
Wakfu - French voices, Eng subs, Korean animators. Action/Adorable/Awesome.
Yumeku Merry - Dreams/Rabits/Monsters/Weird
Yuki Yuna wa Yusha de Aru - Magical Girl(ish)/Action/Adorable/Therewillbetears
Zetsuon no Tempest - Shakespeare/Modern Fantasy/ApocalypseThere's some current stuff worth watching, but honestly there's enough anime out there to keep yourself busy until the current stuff has finished its seasons at least, so you can watch it all at once when you're ready.
DISCLAIMER: I am easily entertained. Not everything on my list is necessarily good, by some standards, and a couple by many standards. @Glitch is probably gnashing his teeth at more than a few.

Why did you not tell me about this? Why do you hate me so much?
Also, I adore Spice & Wolf in a way that is not appropriate for my gender.
-
Now I feel obligated to check out Spice and Wolf. It must be rather good if it makes a male get all girlish.
-
Sadly, I haven't watched much anime... but what little I've seen of Bio-Booster Armor Guyver was decent. Definitely better than the first live-action movie (well, both of them, really, but the second live-action flick was light-years better than the first one, IMO). It's fairly violent as well (and God help you if you watch the Out of Control OVA -- mostly for the hentai-ish scene where Valcuria bonds with the damaged Guyver II unit).
-
If you want to watch more I've plenty of Crunchyroll guestpasses.

This post is deleted! -
I suggest Bubblegum Crisis and Knights of Sidonia, though I don't know if the second should count, because Netflix. We're also having fun with Jojo and Gundam Build Fighters. If you'd like to venture into wacht live-action Japan-stuff, I suggest Sun Vulcan, the first Super Sentai series to feature giant robots. Suggestion - only watch Sun Vulcan if you go into it knowing it's terrible, but want to watch robots who build organic weapons to kill organic beings... fight against organic beings who create robots to kill robots. Also, a dancing refrigerator who brings you beer. Also, a young Rita Repulsa.

A series that is funny, and almost no one has heard of: Ghost Stories.
There's a catch, though: you have to watch the dub, and you have to have your political correctness switch turned very securely off. The disclaimers get increasingly insane, and they even worked additional weirdness into one of the English subtitle tracks.
This is a short series that came with a package of other titles when the distributors picked up a pile of things from some studio or another, and it's garbage on its own, as written. Garbage enough they simply handed it off to the voice actors and shrugged and let them do more or less whatever they wanted with it. (Not guessing, this was actually confirmed by someone the roomie knows who worked on the project.)
It's a pretty glorious pile of WTF that feels like most of it was given a 'What's Up, Tiger Lily?' treatment by a group of voice actors jotting down ideas on bar napkins, and that's more or less exactly what it is.

Can you point a foreign pirate in the vague direction of where he may find this particular booty, lass? -

He'll definitely know. Netflix has it, though they're apparently missing one of the discs.

(No links, guys. Thanks.)

Way to stifle the free sharing of information, @Thenomain. Clearly this has become a dictatorial forum in short order. /flipdesk.

Does not compute.
I understand what you're saying, but I've yet to hear more than a couple of English voice actors for anime who haven't made me want to drill into my ears to make it stop.

It's totally unwatchable as itself. It's just that dry boring horrible.
It's the improv and insanity that makes it a thing of hilarious beauty.

Ninja Scroll on blu ray or nothing.
It's funny. I can't stand Anime (or 99.9995% of Anime) but I am ga ga for the cinema. Seven Samurai. Sanjuro. Yojimbo. Throne of Blood. The Hidden Forest. Harakiri. Grave of Fireflies. Kagemusha. The list goes on and on.
