I played in the SWtOR beta, pre-ordered, and then cancelled my pre-order because I was afraid of how intensely it was sucking me in. No MMO has ever captured my attention the way it does.

(I'm on Bergeren Colony if anyone ever wants to play. I'm slowly working on completing the main story on all classes, so I should have a character or be able to kick one up for whatever.)

I was in the beta(or super early FTP release, I forget which), too, but got to the grinding hell of the mid level 20s. That saved me from the game. I've heard they fixed that stretch of the game, but the endless wind sprint fetch quests of the middle of the game really left a bad taste in my mouth.

The first 20 levels was fantastic, though, I'm tempted to jump back in and take another swing at it.

With the current 250% XP boost until April 10th, you can do just class quests and still hit level 20-25 by the time you're off the starting planet. No need for grinding at all!

What I've been recommending is to do ALL the quests on the starting world, even the Heroics (once you get your first companion), then do nothing but class quests and Heroics on every world after. You can hit 56-60 by the end of Chapter 3 if you use your xp boosters they drop on you now and then for the Heroic missions. Doesn't hurt to buy up the Story/Explore bonuses in your Legacy either, but not necessary. I've got a Gunslinger that's about to hit 70 and I'm just past the prologue for Shadow of Revan. Didn't even do any of the Makeb stuff.

Trying out the Wildlands open beta. It's fun, but it feels like with the huge spread of the available map that beyond the hotspots that there's very little to do in the wilder regions. I thought maybe wandering into the countryside would result in encountering random patrols and such, but so far that seems to not really be a thing. You may find or or two people randomly standing around a body, but for the most part if just feels like a huge amount of wasted space and potential.

Edit: Yes, I know, it's an open beta. It's release date is in March 7. So I doubt there'll be much changed as far as the aforementioned issue I saw being altered until the game's released and patched a few times.

Despite my better judgement due to having been burnt by the whole 'early access' thing in the past, I went and bought Conan Exiles a few days ago. Right now it is super laggy but I can see the potential there. It is like Rust-meets-Hyboria with all the danger that entails Building and crafting heavy with your survival depending on such things as making sure you have enough water and food gathered so you won't die. I've only played PvE so far so not sure what the PvP is like. All in all, I think this will be a fun game once FunCom gets the issues dealt with.

Is anyone else watching the development of the not-WoD MMO, Vampire's Kiss? While the graphics aren't the best, it looks like it'll be our most proper not-WoD MMO. It's in pre-alpha, but so far they seem to have their heads on straight.

I'm going to start my game probably tonight. They said you could do a bit of the start without the final release update tomorrow messing with the game or save file. Definitely been looking forward to it. I've been playing Numenera since it first released and was an early backer. Great setting, mechanics and everything.

@Faceless I liked it. Reminded me a lot of the Mercenaries games. Also, they have definitely improved the AI. used to be they wouldn't do a damn thing without an order.

It was Mercenaries that I thought of within the first few minutes of play. Unfortunately I ended up putting the game aside and moved on to another one. The general open world of it and the largely barren landscape save for the hot-spots spread across the map just killed any immersion I may have felt. All that wasted space should have saw patrols to encounter and what not.

I did like the Unidad faction though; like the cops in a GTA system, complete with a "stars" system. I thought that added a degree of importance to maintaining a low profile in most scenarios.

@Faceless You do see patrols, especially later on. Early on they are more sparse. Later on the faction patrols including Unidad increase. Also rebel patrols increase as you finish missions in the area. They will also start fighting each other randomly near you.

At one point the cartel and unidad started duking it out over shooting at me, then rebels showed up and unidad and the cartel teamed back up. It was pandemonium!

@Faceless Alas, PS4 for me for this one. But I really enjoyed the beta, it really was hours of play with all the mission types available in the end. Sure some things can get repetitive, but name me a game that doesn't have elements like that?

The storyline, and finding the little bits of evidence for the case file is a lot of information and I enjoyed following it. Also, there's a pre-qual Movie on Amazon for this game that was good.
