How good is GW2 in terms of the end-game?
Like on WoW there are basically four activities: Raiding (large-group PvE), Mythic Plus (small-group PvE), PvP and 'other' where that means stuff like collecting cosmetic gear, chasing mounts, achievements, etc.
What do you do when you max out in GW2?
-
@arkandel You can Raid. You can PVP. You can WVW. You can work on the expansions (all of the expansions are post level-cap content). You can do top-tier crafting stuff (Legendaries can take months of effort, but that is some peoples' jam). You can do Fractals. You can do Living World content. You can go for full map completion. If you want to chase mounts you have to do the expansions (that is how you get them, through the expansion story lines). You can chase achievements.
Basically... what would you like to do in end-game?

To elaborate a little on the above, maximum level is 80. That's not where the game ends though; you could argue that's when it begins.Up to 80, you're leveling, doing your personal story, doing map events, etc. You can level by killing things, exploring, or crafting. Crafting isn't tied to your level; it has its own and you could max crafting before 80.
All of the expansions are geared to level 80 so all of a sudden, you have a lot more to do The expansions do cost, only the basic game is free. There are two major expansions currently Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire. There's also not quite as major expansions: Living World Seasons 2-4 (Season 1 can't be played as it was a live event so you only get a recap now). Early next year, another major expansion is arriving.
Then there are 9 classes. Each has 2 elite specializations which grant different abilities. A third spec for each is coming with the next expansion. So really, there's a huge emount to do even once you hit 80.

Modular content, timewise.
For example I'm not big on raiding. A raid takes hours, and I can't always just up and leave because life got in the way, or work, or I just... don't wanna any more - without screwing everyone else up.
I liked Mythic Plus (5-man PvE content) because each run took about half an hour. Gather some friends, jump on Discord, do it until I want to stop and leave.
-
@arkandel That would be fractals. Ever increasing pve difficulty in small chunks.
-
Also Charr is best race.
-
@arkandel What @Wretched said. Also anything that's open world. There are literally timed open world events that happen on a set schedule. So you can grab your group, slay the beastie, gain fabulous prizes... then dip out when you're ready. Hell, there are whole TRAINS devoted to just kinda... running the major world bosses in an endless loop. You can jump in when you want and jump out when you want. They'll still be there when you get back!

That is the face of a GM getting ready to unleash serious pain on his players. Just saying.

Soooo, how about that queue boss?

I have not been getting enough sleep because when I'm able to sign on, I just don't want to sign off.
That said, I finished what I would loosely call Act I, and my god, is this worth fighting that queue boss for.

I got in last night!
But after the day I had and how long it took me, still no dungeon in me. So I went and worked on professions.
I will get there. AAAAAAH it's been worth it so far.
Nah. FFXIV's login servers are taking a beating right now due to xpac launch; it's almost impossible to manage to get onto the game sometimes. But fixes have been made, and it IS getting better.
-
I wonder how badly New World players were impacted today.
-
@arkandel I am told it's completely down.
-
@arkandel New World login servers can't talk to game servers currently. This is an improvement, I am told.
I know people are pulling out their hair because there's 3 hours until war for Windsward starts, give or take.

I have never felt so lucky to be EST. I finished the MSQ on Monday and I’m still reeling.

Not done, but nearing it myself, and holy crap I have never taken more screenshots of cutscenes.
Overflowing with joy every time there's a voiced scene.

So, I encountered a little gem of a game on Steam: Growing Up.
It's about a kid growing up from baby to adult, ending at high school graduation. It's a mix of choose-your-own-adventure with random events and people being introduced into your life, balancing your mental health vs making your parents proud, choosing which attributes you want to develop and which subjects - both academic and not - you want to focus on.
I've played through four "lives" now and it really does haul me in. Starting to see a little bit of repetition, but not enough to ruin it for me.
It has a nice range of characters across the various spectrums of ethnicity and sexuality, and stories to match.
Linky here if anyone finds this interesting: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1191120/Growing_Up/

Thinking of going back to WoW since friends are asking me to.
They do treat employees like shit. Flipside: the entire video game industry does.
They did lay off/fire/have some bad apples move on. Flipside: it was pretty obviously done to cover their asses.
Choices, choices.
