FF15 is good too. I enjoyed it immensely. Some of the story felt a little contrived at parts, but I don't even care. The visuals and combat system were totally worth it.
The visuals? Definitely. The combat system? Needs work.
The story is terrible, but I expected no less from a JRPG. I just wish that Square ENIX would put out something for Western consumption that doesn't feel like a subordinate dumpster fire.

Later in the game, you'll really have to buckle down on your strategy. Even at Max level, you'll get your ass kicked quickly if you don't start exploiting enemy weaknesses and such. Yeah, it could probably use a bit of streamlining, but learn it like your life depends on it. Because it does.
That's one of the things I like about RE7 so far. You can't just stand there and get wailed on. You -can't-. An axe to the chest will fucking kill you dead. You have to block and dodge and move around and use the environment to your advantage.

I didn't mind it so much. I mean, yes, by some standards they could have done better, like with the invasion that they pretty much just glossed right over so that you could move along to other things, but overall it wasn't awful.

@Ganymede This. I am so tired of JRPGs expecting me to relate to whiny early-teenagers.

That's why I like Ignis. You're right, there is a lot of being mopey.
-
@Derp I haven't played 15, and YET I knew. I knew there was a lot of teenage moping. It's the one constant in FF games. Except for Tactics, which is the best FF game, in which there was a lot of teenage MURDER and SOLDIERING.

I like FF 8 the best because the teenage moping was intentional and a key part of the character -- and the story. (Forgotten orphan kid; mother figure goes batshit and disappears, then becomes the evil sorceress; gets hit on by teacher; finds a pretty girl that likes him; failure to connect makes him lost in the time stream; etc.)
That said, FF 15 doesn't focus on the moping. Ignis is a narcissistic know-it-all; Prompto is what you'd expect from a young sidekick; and Gladiolus is muscley-supercool. I like the party, for the most part.
What FF 15 fails to grasp is a compelling story and dialogue, but I get it -- it's a JRPG, and these things aren't important to them.

Fucking right it is. Gafgarion, Zalbag, and Delita.
-
@Ganymede 8 was my favorite (non tactics), too. Until 10x2. Scratched that magical girl itch so nicely.
-
I will also will go on to make the claim that Tactics has the best immersive, instrumental soundtrack of any FF game.
-
Mmm it depends on the server. Where are you guys based?

Actually, unless you're big into the PVP/WVW scene, server doesn't matter at all! ^_^

There's pvp in Guild Wars? I...I never knew this. I mean I know there was the competitive faux sports for holidays but not actual pvp.
-
Whoah, for real? Guild Wars 1 was a strictly pvp game. GW2 has some PVE but it's uh, pretty lackluster imo. PVP is the focus of the franchise.
-
@Kanye-Qwest
Yeah I never played GW1 . I got 2 because that's where my WoW guild moved when we left after Pandaria. I've never seen anything for pvp on GW2 just all of the seriously involved PVE things. I mean chasing dragons and world bosses can keep me busy for half a day - and then there's objective captures in the Western zones and the list goes on there's so much PVE to do.ETA:
Now that I'm looking for it yeah I do see PVP and WVW stuff, I guess I just never gave it enough mind to let it really sink in there might be a thriving PVP community on GW2. -

Mm ... no, can't agree. FF 6 takes it for me.
-
FF6 is still my fav, both for the soundtrack and the...characters not being wall-to-wall emo teenagers of it all.
-
@Ganymede that's still a solid choice. 6 definitely had some great mood music! I'm sure that Tactics holds such a special place in my heart simply due to nostalgia.
-
Sad Opera or nothing!
-
Six is my favorite as well of the FF. Though in my case I think most of the credit for that goes to Kefka being my favorite villain of the series.
