@Selira I'm afraid to get it.
Don't be. Seriously. So far it's been almost completely faithful to the original, and expanded on all the things in between where fans were going 'huh I wonder why they didn't do X thing between these other things'. I have not been disappointed by a single thing so far, and have been playing it almost non-stop since I got it.
The way they expand out Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie? Just... you will not be disappointed if you are a fan of the original. All the nostalgia.
ETA: The combat system is the perfect blend of the original and FF15's combat thing, complete with all the options. It's what they should have done with FF15. It flows very nicely, and materia is actually both really important and has to be used very strategically.

@KDraygo The game is utterly fantastic. The emotional notes hit harder, but at the same time, they mean so much more. The successes and failures and wins and betrayals, they all MEAN something.
I'm trying to keep relatively spoiler-free in my reviews of it, for those who haven't played it yet (and there are a lot these days!) but as someone for whom the original was a formative media experience... get it.

+1 all of that.
Also, they took the time to expand things in just, all the best ways. If you enjoyed the original, the remake will make you fall in love with it all over again.
My only complaint so far is a very minor bug in that early section (in the original game, in this one it is easily 40 hours in...) where you are spying on Those People from Those Vents (fans, you already know). The option to back out seems to not work on the other grates.

Ok, so, just beat FF7 part 1. Man. All the feels. I am totally 1000% stoked to see where this goes from here. Shut up and take my money.

Hey Derp, now that you've finished Part 1, how do you feel about them splitting the game into multiple parts that you'll have to pay additional for? This seems to be the most common gripe about the game that is circulating among the people I know.

Honestly? I'm fine with it. Given the quality of what they put out, how much the expanded it, how much it drew me in? I'd end up paying almost as much for crap DLC in other games. I'll totally pay them to not fuck it up and put out a quality second part, especially if they did as well as on the first part.

Finished Greedfall. The Battlemage build makes it ridiculously easy, I think. Ending is kind of a let down. But the game is really fun and I love how the politics work out.
-
@Ganymede I agree that it was a bit of a let down. But only because they built everything up very well. It was a fun experience but they couldn't quite take it to another level at the end.
-
@Derp Man, people are beating this game so fast! I got it on release day and I'm still only about halfway through. Is it absurd to be worried about spoilers for a game I have played countless times since 1998? Lol.

Uh, if you're talking about FF7R, then let's just say yes, be very worried about spoilers.

That.
You may have noticed by now that the story has been expanded upon.

Agreed. It also doesn't seem very replayable to me but that's subjective. Still, was fun.
-
@Derp I'm finally hitting the endgame and am so excited to see what these big twists I've been hearing about are.

It is definitely MU material.
That said, Chimera Squad looks cool. And I hear Homeworld is on sale on Steam.

Don't know them. I only got Greedfall because you said it was good and was very reminiscent of Bioware and Witcher. Those types of games have spoiled me for most. I got Pathfinder not long ago and while it's certainly okay, it just doesn't hold me like those others (and Greedfall) did.
-
Homeworld is on the best RTS games I have ever played. It has an interesting storyline and was revolutionary for its time. RTS in space means 3D attacks, so there is incredible pwnage when you grease people by hyper jumping above them.
Chimera Squad is an XCOM spin-off set a few years after XCOM2. You play a squad of cops in a city of humans and aliens. It looks pretty nifty as a strategy game.
As for me, I played Kingdom Hearts 3 for about 30 minutes and wanted to kill myself. How anyone liked that game, I will never know. Good lord.
-
@Ganymede I mostly stick to RPG type games though I have an unexpected liking for the Assassin's Creed games and the Dishonored series.
-
Well, if you are okay with shooters, there’s the Uncharted series and The Last of Us.
-
@Ganymede Well, the Dishonored series might technically be a shooter but you don't have to kill a single person if you don't want to. The option to choose between ghosting through the game, killing or not killing, is what makes it so fun. I strongly recommend this to anyone who hasn't played it.
AC is a little different. I hated the first one when I tried it but then Odyssey came out so I gave it a shot and really liked it. Knowing the others weren't like it, I tried Origins and then the others mostly because of the historical settings and a curiosity to see what they did with them.
I still wouldn't say I'm a fan of shooters as I really don't like the Bioshock games or some others I tried.

Uncharted. 12/10. DO play. And The Last of Us will kick you right in the feels. So good.
