The Voodoo Boys writeup I'm referring to in the Night City sourcebook casts them not only in an extremely unflattering light, but also they're...like, literally white college boys posing as vodoun practitioners to sell drugs. That's their whole shtick.
Just going to revisit this after reading Pondsmith's statement about it myself, that it was actually meant to be criticism of cultural appropriation -- like, fair enough I guess, doubting his intentions would be shitty. But there is so little of that criticism to read in the actual text and players were absolutely free to portray Voodoo Boys themselves and completely miss the mark by a mile. It's just...very, very dated.

Yeah, if anything the absurd crunch is what led to a lot of these problems. You work people 100 hour weeks for like 9 months straight (or longer) and fucking mistakes are going to be made. I do hope crunch ends up going away for the industry sooner or later, but it's also been over a decade since the "EA Spouse" blog that brought up shit working conditions and, well, here we are.
Crunch won't go away. The only thing corporations like more than profit is not having to change the way they do things. They'll happily continue putting out shitty, unplayable games they have to refund if it means getting to preserve their calcified business model.

HOTAS
I am in a doomspiral that is compelling me to get a Virpil HOTASAS setup, when elite can't even go beyond 32 buttons.
But qt least the doomspiral has stopped telling me to buy more 40k minis, so whee?

Virpil HOTASAS
How are those compared to, say, the x56 Rhino?

What impresses me so much about Cyberpunk 2077 is its world building... as well as its story..
Did you know..
(Kinda spoilery, but not really
***=***click to showAnd a LITTLE more spoilers, but has nothing to do with the plot or anything relevant to V at all. If things have gone off the wall, you should of been able to figure this one out.

Are there bugs? Sure. But overall, they are minor. I think some people and reviewers I've read are overly harsh about the problems in the game, especially on day one releases.
Sure generous of you to dismiss other people's experiences like that given your complete lack of evidence to the contrary as you aren't even playing on the same platform.
You're welcome, even though I wasn't talking about you. That would be why my experience doesn't seem to take into account your personal situation. You seem to think it applied though, so more power to you. Feel free to use that power to call out a 30 year old source book as being very dated.
I was referring to "professional" reviewers from online publications who run systems as good or better than mine who initially wrote glowing reviews then tried to backtrack as other people had problems by calling out minor bugs and other non-technical issues that were old news, without any mention of game issues on the last gen consoles. Many reviewers seemed to be more angry about having been 'tricked' into giving the game good reviews than the actual gameplay itself. That was what I was referring to.
Also, its just an opinion. Not some personal attack. But I am sorry to hear your experience wasn't great because I'm having a ton of fun with it and that's what I would want for everyone else, as unrealistic as that may be.

Welcome to the internet where you have to let people like things but you also aren't allowed to like things they don't like.

God, wow my mistake. When your defense only came as a reply after I called out the game as buggy? Shocking to belatedly learn how forums actually work after all these years, it's all just people shouting into a void with no context.

Maybe include that nuance in your original post next time so you don't have to explain it like a condescending asshole to anyone who scoffs? Just a thought.

Yeah, I said I hated the game and everyone who enjoyed it was objectively wrong. Sure. Couldn't be I was just rolling my eyes at someone who claimed negative reviews were an overreaction like the vast majority of inexplicable CD Project Red bootlickers out there right now.
Again, I enjoyed the story a lot. But downplaying how unacceptably buggy the release was is pretty dumb.

The thing is, dude, when someone doesn't agree with you / you dislike something they like: you get incredibly rude and condescending. It absolutely comes across as 'how dare you not change your entire opinion to agree with me, the clearly superior intellect.'
Maybe you don't intend it that way, but that is how it comes across. It doesn't come across as a discussion, as sharing your viewpoint. It comes across as 'anyone who disagrees with me is an idiot' (or even sometimes a racist, a sexist, or other -ist - you shove a LOT onto people).
-
You mean, onto your buddy Ghost, where it sometimes applies?
Rude and condescending I'll take, I could work on it.
-
I think of "minor bugs" as ones that are noticeable but don't significantly impact a player's ability to play the game. The things described by many players sound like they significantly impact their ability to play the game.

it's unplayable on PS4.
I wouldn't go so far as to say that. I've played all of act 1 and part of act 2, so it is obviously playable. Sure it has issues and can use a whole bunch of refinement, but to say it is totally unplayable is a bit of a fallacy.

@auspice Hella sturdier and designed FOR space sims, but also hella more expensive and intensive.
A single stick and base will probably cost more than the whole x56 set... to say nothing of how you decide to mount it, and possibly need to take apart and do sorcery with the springs.
But also also, SO FAR AS I AM AWARE, Virpil is the only place designing actual left-handed sticks (though Thrustmaster does have a semi-ambidex set with their t-1600, it has some engineering issues).
Virpil also makes their stuff out of aircraft-grade metal because some hobbyists want their shit super authentic, so you could use it as a club and it would probably still work the next day.

Oof. The x56 is already in my plans as a 'save up with new job and get for my birthday in May'. Something too much more is not in the cards.
But then I have space concerns without setting up a whole new desk and shit. And I don't need it to be left handed.
-
@auspice But the x56 doesn't look like a xenomorph!
-
@jennkryst but can you bind it to run hspace commands?
-
@wildbaboons Absolutely. I believe the Virpil software allows up to 100 custom bindings, to say nothing of binding a button to a normal keyboard input.
... but again, you're looking at 190£ for a single grip, not including the base (either ANOTHER 190£, or 290£ if you get the smaller one that requires a mount?)... to say nothing of then getting actual mounts for your desk (or if you're feeling spry, mounts for your chair, but you need to go to Monstertech for that).

Just in case you all missed it, Sony pulled the game from its store. For both consoles. Until it is fixed. And it is giving refunds, which Sony will no doubt demand some compensation for from CDPR.
Regardless of the reviewers, the complaints were bad enough that Sony, of all companies, took unprecedented action.
Your experiences and opinions may vary, but some huge profit-driven corporation thought it was bad enough to give refunds and pull the product.

I would also like whomever is responsible for the music licensing payments to get around to actually paying their outstanding invoices. Unfortunately, I think that might be my old boss at Cleopatra and another dude at Lakeshore Music, which is even more personally aggravating and mortifying for me.
My (no longer strictly) internet bestie has two songs on the PEBKAC channel in-game, and has yet to see payment and he delivered well over a year ago.
