I have received a bill for some X-rays I got as part of a work comp claim. It being a work comp claim, this bill is not my responsibility, which the office staff at the radiology department should know because I told them so when I was there. The bill I've received has a warning that if I don't pay it immediately, they'll turn it over to a collection agency and fuck with my credit. It's for thirty-eight dollars. They're threatening me over the cost of five value meal combos at McDonald's, which cost is not for me to pay because, not to belabor the point, it's a comp claim and my employer is responsible for the injury I suffered which led to me seeking treatment in the first place.
Incompetent bandits.

@greenflashlight It's somewhat better? I've been on nsaids too so..

"I refuse to wear a mask or get the vaccine because I have anecdotes about two or three people wearing masks or getting vaccinated and still getting COVID. Why would I take any preventative measure if it doesn't completely magically 100% work?????? I openly admit that I have done little to no research and seem kind of proud of this for some reason? You can try to provide me with even a basic understanding of medicine and scientific methodology that I very obviously lack but I will just call everything you painstakingly labor to give me 'opinion' and stand by my dumbass mouthbreather ignorance because it childishly eases my anxiety to put my fingers in my ears and go LALALA IT'S NOT REAL IT'S NOT REAL despite being a grown ass adult."
Fuuuuuuuuucking christ why is this EVERYONE IN UTAH I JUST I CAN'T ANYMORE

@greenflashlight So. Doctors, Hospitals, Radiology... doesn't matter, they will bill you as the patient because if their scare tactics work, they get money from you AND the insurance company and good luck getting it back once they've been paid.

I think America's inability to understand the difference between fact and fiction is the surest sign the nation cannot recover from the death spiral it's in.
-
It is really, really depressing me that I am basically starting to think I have an ethical and moral obligation to take my son and move out of the country as soon as possible so he can be raised in a place with at least SOME foundation in reality. Like that just sucks.
-
@wizz My concern is, it might not matter. America is sprinting toward the apocalyptic finish line of unfettered capitalism and is poised to take the entire planet with us when we cross over it.
-
Ugh. I am sorry. I don't even know how the Mormons don't get the picture. The prophet and apostles didn't hold in person meetings for 3 conferences now and all sat with their masks on and six feet apart for all of them.
How the heck haven't people of faith gotten the the picture yet?!
-
I really don't want to imply that it's just Mormons who are the problem out here, because they really aren't. There are plenty, including my own immediate and extended fam, who have a lot of education on the subject and have been super careful this whole time. For some reason, Utah breeds a super insidious conspiracy theory mentality that just seems...extra common compared to most other states except the deep South and Alaska, lol, regardless of your religion or lack of it.
That said, our biggest problem child is Utah County where people regularly throw incredibly stupid mask protests and huge illicit BYU college parties that both always turn into super spreader events, and...well, most of those peeps are Mormon. βοΈ

My husband does the short news reports on the radio for a station out there (I don't know which station) because he lived in Utah for a while (we are both BYU grads) and so he tells me all the crazy shiz that is going on. Young and Dumb was a topic he ranted about ~forever~.

I really feel like the United States, as an entire culture, just needs to spend about five years or so being raised by my mom. Like, don't get me wrong, the woman has issues. She has issues, believe you me, but.....
When I was little and I threw a tantrum in public, it didn't matter where we were or what we were doing, my parents would just pack me up and leave. Halfway through dinner at a restaurant? Doggie bags. Middle of the grocery store? Full cart returned to an employee with apologies while they marched screeching toddler-me out of the store. After about half a dozen goes at it, I decided that I liked going out and doing things more than I liked having fits, so I stopped having tantrums in public.
Didn't even matter if you were someone else's kid. Didn't matter where we were or what property you were on. Drop me off at school and find a pack of kids bullying someone? She'd yell at you to knock it off and get your asses inside before she called your mother. Running around the neighborhood acting all crazy-like? She'd scream at you to get out of the damned street before you got hit by a car.
I really, really feel like we could just use a collective National Mom (tm) who is sick of everyone's shit and prepared to give anyone within earshot a piece of her mind.

We could all use some more Judy Greer.
-
@ganymede I still adore the first role I ever saw her in. Casey in 27 dresses. The snark and sarcasm
-
The first time she really caught my eye was on The Big Bang Theory.
Like, I'm not even sorry, really, I'm not, she's a gorgeous woman and I would eat her until I exploded.

An explanation into my tinnitus and why it onset so quickly. As I got back from a two hour long testing period at the clinic to see my Audiologist and ENT.
Doctor: Your hearing is still very good, but now that we're testing into the higher hertz bands, we have noticed through the testing today that you have hearing loss in 12,000 hertz range.
Me: But that's a higher band, do we even hear those frequencies?
Doctor: We do, but it is on the higher end of what humans are able to perceive audibly.
Me: So basically, because I'm losing hearing in that range, my brain is trying to make up for that loss of signal by creating this ringing tone.
Doctor: So far as we understand tinnitus, yes. I would honestly recommend tinnitus retraining therapy in lieu of the fact that other treatments are still under review by the FDA. But there is strong hope that some of these treatments, once approved, will be able to help a lot of people.
Me: ....cool.
Doctor: On the upside, you don't have Menire's Disease or have a tumor.
Me: I mean, yeah, that is pretty good to know that isn't going to be a thing.
Conclusion: Tinnitus sucks balls and I would not recommend it.

Doc, don't do that. Don't give me hope.

There is hope. A new kind of treatment called 'bimodal neuromodulation' has been developed by a doctor at the University of Minnesota and is actively being used for treatment in Ireland and Germany. It's fascinating stuff.

I might be getting better at cutting people out of my life who don't care for/respect me half as much as I do them.
Might be. I'm hoping I am.
-
I've had very mild-to-moderate tinnitus since childhood and I was sincerely dreading it getting worse as I get older, just a sort of creeping anxiety that hits me sometimes, so that is awesome news. Thank you, and I hope your current treatments help!

@wizz Air purifier. The noise it makes is better than a fan.
Even though...it is a fan. I don't get it, but it's a great tool for noise cancellation. Maybe it just operates on a particular frequency that tinnitus is at. Not sure. But it helps me sleep at night.
And hey, might as well have cleaner air while you're at it.
