FEAR AND LOATHING: 138.197.94.50 8000 / www.fandlmux.com
Fear and Loathing is a Las Vegas based nWoD game using 1e theme and GMC rules. The game approaches the Storyteller and MU system a bit different than most games. Staff do not run metaplot - the game is a player-centric game. Staff are purely OOC in function: they approve characters, handle XP spends, set notes, handle +jobs, approve theme and story ideas (see below), and otherwise keep the game running. For this reason, staff are not restricted in what Spheres or IC positions they can play in, but they cannot approve their own characters or handle their own +jobs.
Being player-centric means that staff encourage players to be Storytellers and make plots using the setting and theme provided. They also encourage them to BUILD on it, add to it, and help it grow. In a way it's a sandbox game - a sandbox for the players. You decide what you want to do, and staff just keep the toys clean and functioning. To facilitate this, they have eased a number of the restrictions you commonly see on other games regarding PRPs (player run plots), and have added incentives to encourage inclusion and co-operation. Whilst PRPs are looked over before they go live, it's only to make sure nothing gets out of hand or too crazy. Staff want to be a game that finds reasons to say 'Yes' rather than 'No'. They also allow for several different types of character that other games do not, including transfers.
At this time the game is accepting Vampire: the Requiem, Changeling: the Lost, Changing Breeds, Immortal, and many Mortal+ templates. It's open and ready to go - come check it out!

@Pondscum Glad to see more games around! Wish you the best of luck.
(Though I can't help but point out that just about every wod game now a days is a sandbox, where staff leaves players to do just about everything but the grunt jobmonkey stuff.)
-
Much for a game with CB and Immortal. Always have been my favorite spheres, hands down.

This Guest Stars thing........wtf?

Yes, the rules make "sense", but still. Seems very...strange.

Seems like a conduit towards having rules for governing the TRANSFERS to me.
I mean, there's nothing inherently wrong with the rules they set out.
I'm mostly wondering if they're doing their math right when it comes to XP because like, dropping Humanity/Clarity for 5 XP per dot is a LOT in GMC rules, so it's not clear which XP system they're using.
-
@Coin It says it's GMC costs. Nothing listed for aspects, though... which would blow if they're 3xp/dot considering that for most of them, not every dot does something, like a discipline or whatnot does. Would make it fairly costly compared to other things. That a dot in a respect is more than a dot of harmony is a bit o.o as well, but I'm betting they are probably sorta feeling that conversion out still somewhat, or at least that'd be my guess.

I haven't read the rest of the website, but if they did their conversions poorly it could be disastrous.

Out of curiosity. Does the game support Geist? Or if not now, will it in the future?
-
@Monogram I asked staff and the answer was they're not, nor have they plans to. Sorry. However, I think there's quite an active Geist sphere in Fallcoast if you've not already dipped a toe in over there.
-
Nuts. But thanks for asking.
-
It looks like I never added Geist to the older system they're using, an older version of the code they're using on Reno. Working out chargen and xp costs for keys and powers would be the hardest part of that. The mountain of planning a whole new sphere in code is daunting.
-
Geist is awesome, but incredibly overwpowered on a multi-sphere game, so we aren't taking it. Sorry.

What about Werewolf? Similar reason?
-
Srs question, aren't they ALL super op compared to like, hunter/mortal? or is vampire considered kind of the standard? Where do the changelings fit in? (not the bunnygirls, I assume they aren't terribly threatening overall)
-
@SunnyJ To a degree, but also the game's mostly focused on the city. We'll use them as antagonists.
-
@Kanye-Qwest We don't have Hunters, so not really a problem. Changelings are very active and big, Vegas is VERY Spring.

Vegas is VERY Spring.
I imagine that it's also very Winter (especially for those who live there) and Autumn (for those who prey on the unsuspecting). The only Court I can't imagine having a consistently solid hold on part of the minds of Vegas would be Summer. Ironic, considering the heat.
-
@Thenomain Yes, actually. Winter has held the crown for the last 9 years. Before that, Spring had it for 40+ years. It doesn't change seasonally here because we really don't get seasons. There's precedent in the books for one-court rule, and Vegas is extremely Spring, with undercurrents of Winter from all the desperation and broken dreams.

You will be glad that in the next version of Changeling, each area has its own Freehold system. The up-side should be obvious: You aren't limited to emotions, but to what makes sense for the area. The down-side is that you have to create your own courts and court benefits. As of last known draft, you must (must!) have a way to share the rule, even if nobody else wins the brass ring; I'll be interested in how they enforce this, as they only made vague threatening boogyman noises in nWoD Changeling.
-
@Thenomain Huh. Odd.
We're also doing things a bit different in that the Queen or King has no executive power - their vote counts as two, and they are the face of the Freehold, but the council runs things. All 4 seasons, Dusk, Dawn, and the Courtless get an Alder.
