Which canon property/setting would be good for a MU* ?

@jennkryst Jennifer?
Gods, I missed you. Scire/Galaxy here.

Just gonna quickly toss my hat into the ring here. Now, I haven't read the 20+ pages before my post, and I don't really feel like sifting through it all, so if someone already mentioned this, I apologize.
Final Fantasy. Not a specific one. All of them.
I've been to a few that handled at least the setting well, and it's possible in various ways for several of the games to be connected in ways that their FCs could interact (other than that moronic "Spira is the homeworld of the Cetra bullcrap").
I miss being able to play Final Fantasy-based stuff that includes the classic games, and I really wish someone would make a game to fill the void that the last Final Fantasy game I was at created when it closed a year or so ago.
-
@dariryu I'd play a Final Fantasy Tactics themed game. Or at least something similar. But only FF Tactics.

... unlikely. Unless you are talking about the Alliance Pilot from SerenityMU. Then maybe?

To you and @Faceless, there was some talk of this. FS3 is an ideal system for crushing enemies, but it isn't geared well for magic without severe tweaks. I think that FF XV is your best bet.

@dariryu Consent based? For Final Fantasy? Think I'll just walk away slowly with my hands up in a non-threatening manner
-
This is mildly constructive, so I'll refrain from saying that @DariRyu is everything that is wrong with the MU* community and that I hate everything this person stands for.
Instead I'll just say '...okay then.'
-
@admiral Would you please not not-say it here either? It's not-not-not-constructive, you are right.
-
@arkandel I'll try. Let me say something constructive, then!
@dariryu As an American and a Patriot I would gladly die for your right to express your opinion and I am very glad you feel this is a safe space where you can share your ideas openly without fear of disapproval or aggression. The world is a very scary place at times and I want you to feel welcome and secure. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to make your Soapbox experience a more positive and friendly one.
Have a wonderful day, friend.:)

Who said anything about a system? I'd prefer it if there wasn't, in fact. Systems lead to PvP, PvP leads to competitiveness, competitiveness leads to gaming the system, and gaming the system leads to a subset of the game being able to pretty much walk all over everybody else because their numbers are bigger. That's never good.
FS3, as a system, is not capable of handling PvP competitiveness -- at least, not to the complication that many people who do like PvP will get much, if any, benefit. What FS3 does well, however, is simulate a battle scenario with two sides, which may be unbalanced number-wise, and figure out the outcome on a per-turn basis.
Which, if you have played Final Fantasy games, seems pretty darn reminiscent to the games themselves.
Systems produce unexpected consequences. Unexpected or unintended consequences can make RP more interesting. Consent generally connotes the absence of those kinds of consequences.
I'm almost certain that folks using FS3's new system, via Ares, can attest to the absence of PvP on their games.

PvP has nothing to do with system and everything to do with the way your game/setting is created.
There was a GoT game using FS3 that had PvP for important duels and stuff. 100 had some PvP elements with Grounders vs Arkers but they weren't (usually) trying to kill each other. Y'know, except the one who shot my archer in the head
But FS3 is not designed for PvP games or for magical games, so I agree it's not a good fit for FF.

To clarify my position, FS3 would be great for FF XV's setting in which magic is relegated to near non-existence. I've thought long and hard about this.
I'll shut up now, mistress.
-
@ganymede Oh I have no idea about that one so I'll take your word for it. My only real experience with the FF games was watching second-hand. There seemed to be a lot of magic.
-
@faraday Actually FF magic is one of the few magic systems (in general) where FS3 could be done with it, if you just turned magic/materia into /weapons/ and /attacks/ it would work fine honestly. The setting for magic in FF is both simplistic, and at times powerful, but there's no reason you couldn't for the most part use FS3 for it. There are very few buffs/debuffs other than Shell/Shield/Regeneration/Gravity/Demi. If you had your FS3 set to have /armor/ then you could even use half of those. The biggest buffs that wouldn't make a lot of sense for it would be haste/slow.
-
While what you say is true, Cure and Life are the most important spells in your Final Fantasy arsenal. I don't think they are compatible, as they are presented in the games, with FS3.
FF XV is the best for FS3 because magic is heavily-minimalized. You have Fire, Ice, and Lightning attacks and spells, but that's about it. Curing is done via potions, for the most part. From what I've seen on BSG:U and Fifth Kingdom, I don't think FS3 allows you to heal people. So, there's that limitation.
-
@ganymede If you are removing cure potions, then you can remove cure/life/phoenix downs etc without a problem.
If FS3 (I do not know, not very experienced with it) allows for coded damage, then it should allow for coded healing. If it doesn't allow for coded damage, then cure/life/phoenix downs/potions etc... are all just plot fu.
-
I'm pretty sure that Faraday could possibly whip something up for FS3 that allows for healing, but frankly she's a pretty busy lady and I'm not at the point where I'm actively planning anything like that.
Anyhow, yeah, I'm not saying FS3 won't work. Far from it. I just think FF XV is the best suited for it.

@ganymede
Combat/treat already does some healing (and combat/rally, which iirc both revives someone who's been KO'd and partially treats some damage). I feel like it'd work for the equivalent of an FF-style healing potion without rejiggering, depending on a person's needs. -
See, I always thought that combat/treat does a little bit of immediate healing, but thereafter caps the healing process. Am I wrong? Can you treat the same wound over and over until it's fully-healed?
