I think if that this were true we would see more Fate games around, but I’m also very okay with the thought that we just haven’t hit the right tone with people on that yet. Aether was extremely popular until the system-heavy players started outweighing the mainly-narrative people.

@Ashen-Shugar: I love the idea of doing a TRON game. You really have a virtual (haha) open world of zones/sectors. Pick a timeframe in which the game is taking place:

• pre-TRON: Sark and the MCP still run the show, trying to control much of the digital frontier as possible.
• Age of TRON: Tron and Flynn work with building an open and free digital world. Programs are not limited to just their own zones/sectors
• pre-ISO genocide: Programs and ISOs are all over the grid, but there's tension between them in certain sectors
• post-ISO genocide: CLU has wiped out all the ISOs. TRON is now Rinzler. Things start to feel like we're going back to MCP days of control.
• Something in between one of those time periods, or post-CLU.

Sorry....as you can tell I love the idea. It was a movie I grew up with as a kid, and also enjoyed both Tron: Legacy and Tron: Uprising as an adult.

Farscape would have been entertaining as hell, I think. It had interesting factions, wasn't so heavy on the technobabble that can be an awkward deterrent, real threats, major weirdness, and all around a universe that seemed like it would be highly entertaining to engage with.

^ This. More games really need a mission statement, where the basics are covered. If you intend for things to be PvE or PvP, cooperative or competitive OOC, narrative or code/system-heavy, etc. This is wiki main page material, or should be, right up at the very top.

And people need to read that and understand it applies to them.

Reno1 had one of these, and it was clear, concise, accurate, and damned good.

Then a notable number of people whined that it was precisely what it said on the tin. (To which I can only add another planting to the garden of facepalms at this point, though that was insufferably draining at the time.)

This is bordering off topic so last statement regarding this tangent. But itd be great for games to do that. It would then require consistent admin to stick with it. That is where things fall to shit. Even now I am laughing because an unnamed game has changed their activity requirements 3 times in as many months to try and push players out

If staff can't be consistent neither can players so there's no point in stating what you are. Especially when staff can't nut up and just say what they want and remove people they want to get rid of.

Instead of changing activity requirements just tell the player "we want you to drop this char so I can play it instead and ts people on it"

So to come full circle. I like 7th sea 2nd a lot but the narrative nature may turn people off. Then again if I were making the game I'd tell those people tough tits make your own 7th sea game.

• Red Rising: If you haven't read the books, I would strongly recommend them. Awesome! It has an entire class/caste system (Society of Colors). It's one of those that would also be fun for someone looking for a sci-fi Lords and Ladies type game/concept

I absolutely agree regarding the books, they are not high literature but I found them addictive and inclined to stick to my mindspace in a way very few other series have. I am even buying and reading the graphic novels as they release and keeping up with the teasers for the sequel trilogy. I never do that.

I am still not sure how they could work for a MUSH though. I mean there is that whole class/caste system but on the whole, a Gold is going to be utterly and overwhelmingly amazing at stuff compared to anyone who is not a Gold as well as having the ultimate in social privilege. The key would be to have anyone who is not a Gold being a Quicksilver, Orion, Ragnar, etc, a peerless exemplar of their colour who is better than 99.9% of Golds in their area of focus even if (outside of the Ragnar example) a random Peerless Scarred would effortlessly eviscerate them.

The Temeraire series is by Naomi Novik (who actually apparently used to be one of the wizzes on Transformers 2k5), and takes place in an alternate history version of the Napoleonic Wars where dragons exist. They thus get trained for aerial warfare, but it's more like a version of naval warfare—crew tied on with ropes, firing artillery at other dragons.

When I said "Horatio Hornblower with dragons", I very much meant Horatio Hornblower but with dragons. If you like Horatio Hornblower, and enjoy the idea of dragonback aerial naval warfare, you will probably enjoy the series. (The series is also concluded, so no worries about waiting for new books; you can start reading and if you enjoy it, you can read the whole dang thing.)

Yeah, I've thought about that too. In the sense that you always have a large group of players that always wanna be the "special ones" but not enough people wanna play the "others." In a way (and someone may throw monkey poop at me for mixing things a bit), but Red Rising game could use the same kiiiiiinda system as Exalted--but maybe the focus is on Gold and Gold politics on one of the planets. Maybe award additional XP, bonuses, hugs, handies in the back alley (joking on the last part) for those wanting to play other colors: such as Obsidians and The Stained. Oooooooor....you could create a game based on the ending of the last novel in the trilogy, and the Golds on the outer rim.

I know that he's working on a 4th book that's meant to take place several years after Morning Star. Could use that or an "alternative version" of post Morning Star. Again, just thoughts

Heh. Seriously though, you get some inbuilt conflict and a reason for PvP. Ignoring the WoD fansplat for it, the TV series and first movie make a solid background (and just ignore the SPESS ALIUMS origin from the second and third movies).

There were more movies? I remember the one. I think some other studio tried to make some kind of knock-offs, but somehow starring the same people. They were filmed competently, except for the last one. It was filmed like a made-for-TV movie which was also strange, because it starred people from the TV show, too.

One of the mild issues I have with Highlander is the same problem a lot of people have with Vampire; all the interesting stuff happens or happened over eons, and suddenly a bunch of chaotic stuff is breaking out in a comparatively tiny amount of time. The movie (again singular) staged this embarrassingly well.

The TV series had to bring in other antagonist groups, Buffy-style, to create a sustainable episodic feel. Or for that matter, Dresden Files-style. Now there's a world that's so rich that you could pick any three groups (organized or loose or both) and have a great time.

A Highlander (and mortals and watchers) only game would be interesting. The system you used for it could be pretty simple in a lot of ways, or you could just create Highlanders as immortals with a 'power' stat called Quickening that you could use to flash heal, or boost stats. You'd only be able to increase it by taking someone else's head and absorbing their quickening.

Could be fun... but definitely not for the faint of heart about character death.

Would be an interesting thing to watch as groups built up, fell apart, politics, etc.
