X-Men Utopia MUX
-
@arkandel I imagine the constant jokes about it would be the frustrating part.

Just a note that work on X-Men Utopia has paused (possibly stopped). The reason is I'm working with some fantastic folk on another X-Game that we're hoping to have live soon. It's not X-Men Utopia but I like it and, for now, it's taking up my time for coding and what not. I'll re-evaluate X-Men Utopia once that game opens. Just wanted to keep everyone updated!

Any details that can be shared?

@ganymede said in X-Men Utopia MUX:
It would be neat if the application to make a PC were just to make up the wiki with a sheet on it.
On m1963, you make your sheet in game, and it gets automatically converted and put on the wiki (unless you make super weird formatting) for you on approval.
Considering how many players freak out over having to do anything at all on the wiki, I consider your idea a nonstarter, personally.
I think any game which makes 'requires ability to format in wiki-text' a requirement to play is losing a not-insignificant number of players.
For some people its easy and natural and they have no problem. For quite a few, just getting an account seems to cause a panic attack. And for more then a few, having to do anything off-game is deeply unpleasant.

@zombiegenesis There's another X-game opening?

I know. I'm on your game.
What I meant was: it would be neat if all you had to do was make a wiki page. You know, just do that, and bamph, character. But, yes, I understand that people have misgivings about doing anything on a wiki.

It is insanely difficult to make something like that work. @surreality worked on it for a while and I think she came close?

Maybe. M1963 uses descriptions for powers, skills, etc. You could easily put that into a wiki. Injecting that information onto the game is not necessary as long as you have access to the wiki. Sort of redundant, really.
But, as I said, just a thought.

I don't have anything to share right now but the game owner said she is working on something to hopefully share very soon. I'll post more once she says it's cool.

Yay!
Somewhere I can app a prismatic furred, multi-breasted catgirl in a bondage outfit!
...
I actually feel a little a little guilty for putting that image out into the universe. Like if it comes true, it will be my fault.

I totally get what you're saying.
What I'm saying is that just getting someone to log into a wiki is a challenge.
The number of people who righteously detest any ask that I put out there that they even know there's a wiki at all, is quite high.
So, the idea to me, that all one has to do is make a wiki page, is apping? Its like as far as I can see it, its not just a step backwards (in the 'easy' department), but it'd be actively rebelled against.
Some of us find making wikis super easy, but that doesn't come close to approaching most, as far as I can tell.

@ixokai Forms can make it easier. 'Fill in the blanks' on an actual web form is much easier even than filling out a template. It can help, anyway. There's autofill options and such, too.
If I ever get off my ass about doing a thing again, I can share an example.
@Thenomain Close, as in... the basics were there. It was going to take a ton of work still to have it functional, but the core elements to make something simple work were present.

To be mildly constructive, I have no doubt that this is true in some cases -- maybe even many -- but if we do not at least try new things, this hobby will be mired in outdated, unsupported technology.
Frankly, I hated wiki-work as well. With a passion. And then, people made templates and forms and fill-in things (thanks, Surreality), and it became easier. And then, people made web portals that worked.
Unironically, the times, they are a-changing.

The XF:NYC wiki is still up, so you can see some of our forms here. Just put in a name into one of the options and click through to see the input form. (It won't let you fill it out if you're not a user.)

For the record, Mutant Genesis MUX is the game I've been speaking about.
-
Yeah Utopia might be a doubling down. Either way, I'm the madman who opened that GUT CHECK thread so ill be joining the game to support.
-
@Ganymede @surreality We tried. Once the character was created, all they had to do was type a command in game then C&P the resulting info into a wiki page. Done.
And half didn't.
-
That’s all right. This isn’t meant to be an attack. Really.
But those are the players you have.

The only thing I'm a little disappointed about with this compared to the X-Men/Brotherhood idea is the latter will still have Xavier's School as a focal point, but other than that I understand why one project is continuing while the other isn't (for now, if not for good).
