@GreenFlashlight From what I recall they're peppered through the early parts, more than once...
But any further discussion of the topic will make @Ganymede want to hit me.

Don't let your kids read the Bible.

I raised with a Bible that is widely considered to be badly mistranslated for the ease and convenience of the reader, which in the case of the religious schools I was forced to attend, included a whole lot of hypocritical evangelicals.

Unfortunately for them, I actually did read it. The whole thing. More than once. And now can quote it back to them at unpleasant times. It's great fun!

The version of the Bible I grew up with did not portray the Ten Commandments as single sentences.

Depends on what book you're in. You see short descriptions in Exodus. Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy go over them again in greater detail.

Update: Mom in law was told we were being 'asked to leave' and had til roughly labor day. Then we got a 'termination of lease and be out by the 31st of july.' circling a peice of our leace that says if someone 'moves in' they can terminate within 3 days.

We have a possible line on a place. But it wont be open till late August.

Trying to contact landlord to ask for extension.

How expensive are lawyers for this shit?

Depends on where you live, really, and what you want out of the arrangement.

The other thing to consider is whether your state is pro-landlord or tenant.

I have heard Arizona courts find in favor of landlords the majority of the time so here especially it is more difficult to take them to court with a positive outcome.

A landlord that owns housing in Silicon Valley? Do they, by any chance, look like this:

                            Or maybe this:

                            alt text

Ceterum autem censeo Carthaginem esse delendam

Locate your local legal aid or pro bono society. That may mean calling the local bar association. Chances are if the landlord files on August 1, there won’t be a hearing until August 30 or so. But check with your local bar association to confirm that suspicion and plan accordingly.

The stupid temporary bridge snapped again, and I don't even know if my dentist is open yet to get an appointment to re-glue it together so I don't slice the inside of my mouth apart on the sharp-as-fuck edges.

The version of the Bible I grew up with did not portray the Ten Commandments as single sentences. They were whole paragraphs listing examples and exceptions. I remember being really scared that the one against killing had a provision allowing for people who break into your home at night, because until then, I hadn't realized that was a thing that could happen. Don't let your kids read the Bible.

I went to school in Israel, and the Old Testament is part of the national curriculum. I studied the entire thing in Hebrew. Twice. (Basic & Advanced studies.)

People really underestimate children, because much as Harry Potter didn’t lead me to devil worship, the Bible didn’t lead me to God worship. I thought it was a fun story full of action, adventure and great world-building, but ultimately ridiculous and that the God character was wholly unlikeable. (Serious temper issues, abusive, bit of a controlling narcissist.)

Anyway that’s why I became an atheist at the age of 6. But Jewish culture encourages questioning the Bible and my answer to it was always ‘NO.’

Let your children read fantasy, there’s no harm in it.

@Rinel True enough, though it aligns with an ex of mine that called the bible 'a great sword and sorcery novel'.
