I got the unfortunate news a few days ago that the mental health clinic I've been a patient at is going through some financial trouble. COVID related.

I got a call from their receptionist to let me know that due to them going through "some restructuring", my therapist had been let go without warning. I'd been working with this guy for about a year and then some. The last time we got to have an appointment over the phone, he'd remarked that he was very happy with my progress. He was looking forward to when we'd be able to chat again.

It's stinging to know that was the last time I'd be able to talk to him for help. They've already assigned me someone new, who I've been informed has picked up 12 new patients, all of whom were dropped from their carers like I'd just been. This isn't the first time this has happened either, as my previous doctors had moved outside of my insurance provider's network.

Starting a self-care relationship for the first time, twice in a two years. Yeesh. At least my psychiatrist can keep my medication supplied through the Summer.

Do you have any way of reaching out to your previous therapist to see if they have landed on their feet somewhere that you can follow?

@Ominous The way the Clinic works is that you get your therapy and you get your prescription from the same doctors at their place. You can't have one or the other, you gotta get the whole deal or you don't get cared for. I'm considering seeing if I could get his contact information, see if he goes to another practice, but it'd also mean starting over with a new psychiatrist too in that case. And that's if he ends up in a mental health practice that'll be networked with my insurance.

          Ask me about professional wrestling.

Ahhhh, none of my therapists over the years have had psychiatrists they work with, so that's really nice. Still, it takes me like 5 to 6 sessions to get comfortable enough with a new therapist to actually start getting anywhere, so for me jumping ship would be my first option, but I definitely understand the reluctance.

@Dreampipe that's how my clinic in SC was. $5/mo and everything was covered (low income / no insurance option there). But I had to leave because the doctor I'd been assigned was terrible. My therapist was great. I really liked him, I trusted him....but I had no options with the doctor.

It's definitely helpful if you can't afford better but sometimes you end up in a shit situation. 😕

There's a couple of lesbians at work. At least a dozen, to hear the way people talk. I've been hearing about them a lot lately. To listen to the rumors, they form an elaborate hierarchy within the building based on their sexual availability to one another; you know, "Oh, X comes in hours late for every shift but no one can do anything about it because she's fucking the boss, which makes Y jealous because Y is fucking Z but Z is fucking all three of them..." Trying to keep track of it reminds me of the time I was friends with a guy who kept trying to explain wrestling to me, except instead of belts and championships and betrayals involving folding chairs, every event and every grievance is about fucking.

I'm not gay. Not really. I tell people I am because it's simpler than explaining I'm homoromantic but as some unclear point on the asexuality spectrum and that I privately question whether I'm actually on the asexuality spectrum at all or just have a low libido combined with emotional issues that make it difficult for me to trust people enough to want to fuck them, but properly speaking, I'm not a lesbian. Nevertheless, I hate how much of the gossip at the office is about how the gay women secretly hold an inordinate amount of power, like some kind of conspiracy, and are using their sexual wiles to prey on all the innocent women because that's just how lesbians are, constantly fucking and trying to fuck every woman who comes into their field of view. Because everyone knows, if you're attracted to women as a category, then you're not only attracted to all women without regard for who they are or how compatible they are with you, you're also so ravenously horny that you define your personal life and your career trajectory around how well you eat pussy.

I'm just tired. I'm going to go rewatch She-Ra now.

This has been the case at every place I have worked that has had a staff of more than like 50 people. Though, you're case is a bit different in that it specifically is directed at lesbians. In my workplaces it's always been "<Disliked employee> is getting away with <world-ending workplace injustice> because he/she is fucking <person with power>."

My cat (the male) is driving me more crazy than usual lately.

I really need a job to get out of the house more so I'm not constantly tempted to throw him to the elements just for some peace and quiet.

Hell, I want to do that with my 11 year old boy. I'm tempted, but he would just use his opposable thumbs to open the door again. At least it would work with the cat.

I've basically crate trained my most demanding cat to put her away when she's being particularly obnoxious. She's pretty tolerant, though, and will go in there to nap on her own. I haven't even tried with her much more reactive brother; I just put him in the bathroom when I need a break.

@Kestrel This is basically my life today since our town voted to remove a racist high school logo and you can imagine the facebook town page right now.

Luckily after thinking better of responding to racists for awhile I decided NO NOT IN MY TOWN and now I'm in several Facebook fights and I feel pretty good about it.

                                  But seriously. Fuck racists.

Not having a great time unfortunately. I've been trying to join leftist action groups in my area to organise and I keep walking out within the week because they're so often plagued by antisemitic garbage.

It feels like the most acceptable form of racism on the Left and it frustrates me because it pits minority groups against one another and unpacking the propaganda/myths all over every single time is incredibly exhausting. Not everyone perpetuating it knows what they're doing but the toll on me as TokenJew to respond to and address it is the same regardless.

On the one hand, I kind of want to stick around and make things better? On the other, I value my mental health. The ubiquity of this problem really can't be overstated.

One thing I have become very aware of after working in the jail is the amount of antisemitism amongst the whole inmate population, particularly among African Americans. I had no idea Black Hebrew Israelite was a thing.

@Ominous Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeah, that's definitely a thing. They used to have a center a couple of blocks from my house, before it burned down. Now it's a Baptist church.

It was a strange thing to have in our neighborhood because it used to be mostly Jewish, now it's mostly black with a significant portion of the residents either being Caribbean immigrants or Sunni Muslim children of former Nation of Islam members, with a former synagogue turned into a rather large and active 'Church of Christ' at the end of my block. Most of the former Jewish resident now live four or five blocks over in the suburbs and go to a very large and very pretty Jewish Cultural Center at the edge of the neighborhood, but still own family businesses on our side of the city line. Or to this very, very Orthodox temple across the street from this super hippie Presbyterian church that prides itself on being inclusive, political activism, and posting really, really funny church signs.

Weekends in our neighborhood are weird to say the least, but also mostly kind of wonderful? to watch. Even so, the dudes that I can only describe as doing a bad 'Yul Brynner in the Ten Commandments' cosplay stood out. Like a lot.

They're angry and nasty and made everyone uncomfortable because they're super racist, usually ranting and waving about signs that Jewish people are impostors who stole their identity and the white man is an agent of Satan. Oh. And one of them yelled at me once about how women are the devil. So there's misogyny, too. Do not recommend.
