My hope is that the supervisor understands, accepts your written notification, and everything can go according to plan regarding moving into your new property.

@Ganymede I super appreciate the help. It's amazing how quickly she was willing to get her supervisor in touch with me when I mentioned I called legal aid (which I did) .

          Funny, that.

I advise a lot of landlords and tenants. I have found that both sides need to appreciate one another's powers and duties for a functioning relationship. And most landlords and tenants simply don't have such an appreciation.

          I hope everything works out.

@Ganymede I understand she's trying to cover her butt, but she didn't check the form at all, and notice my name was nowhere on it. If they can sign the renewal just the two of them, and she didn't ask where my signature was, then there is no reason for this song and dance.

In most jurisdictions, the answer is no. This is because: (1) the prior lease was never terminated; and (2) the current tenants are still paying rent. The landlord did not terminate the prior lease, nor did anyone else. This makes you a form of holdover tenant, who arguably may owe Auspice and Roz a portion of their monthly rent. Regardless, the landlord at the moment has no grounds to evict you even though: (1) you did not sign the renewal; and (2) you may not even be living there.

                Common law is fucking weird.

So I spoke to the supervisor. I was green lit to call her last night, called, she had a tenant emergency she was dealing with. I told her "That's fine, sure, you can call me back." (I could hear the commotion in the background. It did not sound pleasant). She calls me before my shift this morning, and yeah. No problem. You sign here, they sign there, boom, you're free to move. No requalifying, no extra charges, nothing.

It's good to hear that someone has a scintilla of common sense.

I've been in the hospital for 2 weeks because I had 4 surgeries, but I'm out yesterday and doing okay.
So that's my peeve. In about a month or so I'm sure I'll have an amazing financial RL Anger post...
Anyway, I didn't have a peeve about Origins event registration this year, because my friends did all of it for me. Bastards. 🙂
Just thought I let you know. Hopefully I will be up to posting funny and offensive stuff in the coming days.

So... where do we put RL guilt/shame posts. I mean, I'm annoyed with myself. I spoke to my stepmother last night (today is her birthday, and then there's mother's day. Since I live an hour away, I can't go see her today), and of course my father came up in the conversation. He passed away several months ago, and of course we're all still grieving. But she started crying, saying how she felt guilty because she went to bed and didn't sleep on the couch the night he died (he was sleeping in his recliner, so he could control how much he was laying down/sitting up and that his oxygen was right there). He told her to go to bed. He told her good night, sleep tight. And I told her she can't do this to herself. I said "Woulda, coulda, shoulda, Mom. He knew what he was doing. He took off his oxygen, he didn't call for help." (I firmly believe he was tired of hospitals and struggling to 'get back to normal'. He hated feeling weak. I also believe he chose to send her to bed, told her he loved her, and waited until she'd be asleep before he took his oxygen off and ...let go, to be poetic). I know I told her the logical thing. And I can't hug her and let her cry over the phone. But now I feel like a massive jerk, and I have no idea why I wrote this out here, but I did, so fuck it.

@Macha ALL the hugs. All of them. All. You told her the right thing. I know it doesn't feel like enough to you right now, but it matters, and it genuinely counts.

                            Oh fucking well.

In the parking lot at the local mall, there are pedestrian cross walks with the usual black and white stripes. As my friends and I are crossing, so are a pair of women, who both get about three quarters of the way across and stop to consult their phones. And stand there, in the crosswalk.

"Hey," I say, "You might want to get onto the sidewalk."

Hey, I think, you inconsiderate twats might want to stop blocking traffic.

One of them looks at me and smiles, all, "Even though we're standing in a crosswalk?"

"People are crazy." I reply with a smile as my friends and I walk away.

I walk away secretly hoping they get run-over.

"If you stand for nothing Burr, what will you fall for?"

                                    People feel they are entitled.

Given this is a peeves thread, that happens to hit one of mine. People are entitled to various things. The problem is when they feel they are entitled to things they aren't, like 'standing in the middle of the street on their phone because it's a crosswalk'.

I consider this an important distinction because conflating 'entitled' with 'wrongly thinks they are entitled' causes actual genuine trouble when people start talking about 'entitlements' like, for example, (US) Social Security. You are entitled to that if you paid in. You are not 'being entitled' in the slang sense of thinking you should be given special treatment. But it ends up shading the concept that way and that ends up actually harming real people in the end. I know I'll never win against common usage, but it bugs me.

My boss. This position is mostly her sitting in meetings and her hounding us about clocking in and out of Auxes on time. She doesn't do my job, and never has. She doesn't have any more training in my job than I do, and if there is a question, she will just tell you to reach out to the person you know you need to ask, but you still have to ask her first.

She's also an IT moron. When there's a script window popping up and running again and again all day, when it should run once at start up and that's it - AND it's mucking up workflow, that's a problem. When it's doing it about 8-10 times an hour, that's a serious problem. She doesn't understand one program from another.

Also, if I'm marked away, and it's my break time? NO I AM NOT answering your fucking texts. FUCK OFF

Guys. If you ever, EVER have an alarm company tell you that the monitored alarm panel you have connected to your fire system in your home, does not require two lines of communication, get a new alarm company. They are lying.

In addition - digital phone lines/VOIP are not reliable. If your system uses them pay extra for the cellular module.
