Good or New Movies Review

The more I think about the 'new' trilogy, the more I appreciate a lot of the things the prequels did.
I...do not know how I feel about this.
ETA: But it is mostly due to the arcing issues others have mentioned. For better or worse, those damn things were story with a relatively clear vision, even if it was terribad at times.

@Jaded I agree. Like it or not TLJ happened. By ignoring it you're not going to appease the people who did not like TLJ because of how you're going to have to drag out your new story with exposition and you're also going to ostracize the people who did like TLJ. It's a lose/lose. I think it would have been best to just springboard off of TLJ and tell the best story you can from there.
What is there even in TLJ to springboard off? TLJ basically neutered/killed all the villains and all the plot threads from The Force Awakens.

And since we are on the topic, here's my final ranking:
Ugh, this is not complete. Where is Caravan of Courage (this is the Ewok one with the random kid actors .. the marauders lose here before they show up in the Mandalorian, spoiler alert) or The Holiday Special.

The holiday special is on there! It is #8. Unless there is another holiday special that I am not aware of!
I forgot about the Ewok one. Hmm. Probably somewhere in the range of 'Star Wars kid in his garage' but above 'Cats'.

Alright, apparently I can't get the spoiler tags to work(??) so here's a link to my super super spoiler-filled Twitter rant on what I did not like TRoS:
https://twitter.com/ninae/status/1208145442799681536
And since we are on the topic, here's my final ranking:
- Empire
- New Hope
- Last Jedi
- Return
- Rogue One
- Force Awakens
- (three-way tie) the prequels
- The xmas Special
- Star Wars kid in his garage
- Every single scenario that I played out as a kid with my toys
- Cats
- Solo
...
999,999,999. The Rise of SKywalker
How could you leave the Pink Five saga off of this?!
-
What I'm curious about is whose decision it was to release CATS near Christmas at the same time as freakin' Star Wars.
-
@Arkandel Someone who felt it better that nobody ever saw it?
-
@Arkandel Someone who knew we would need a palate cleanser after Star Wars hurt us so much.
Luckily, we have Jumanji to heal us from both.

Explore what it means that the Force has awakened to a degree that random children are absentmindedly telekinetic to a degree the One True Bloodline is no longer the only important thing in the galaxy.
Deal with all the Space Neo-Nazis who are still out there and have much larger numbers than the Resistance. Maybe strike them while they're disorganized and possibly even fractured by the death of Darth Smeagol.
Speaking of the Resistance, rebuild it. Be the spark that starts a flame, and all that.
Build a Jedi Order stronger and wiser than the one that came before, that breaks the cycle of failure to at least find its own, new ways to fail.
Show what happens when Rey tries to learn how to be a Jedi from books.
Tackle the issue of Space Neo-Nazis being enabled by weapons dealers who profit off an apparently perpetual state of war in the starry region.
Explore what Kylo Ren is capable of now that he's moved beyond cosplaying his grandfather and has been eternally denied his revenge against his betrayer in the most humiliating way possible.
have Finn and Poe kiss you cowards I would watch two hours of them holding hands and picking movies to watch and laughing at each other's bad jokes while one washes dishes and the other dries them yes I know no movie actually set that up but make it happen

@GreenFlashlight
All of your suggestions seem to involve the third movie having to do all the heavy lifting of the middle and last part of the trilogy either way. If the second movie isn't doing any of the setup work for the third movie, you're not making a trilogy, you're just making three movies that follow each-other chronologically.I think this 'trilogy' is going to be remembered as three individually ok star wars movies where no part of the plot survived outside its own movie and I wouldn't be terribly surprised if they're all declared non-canon in the near future.

Breakups happen, especially as people discover new feelings about their orientation.

I think you and I understand the word 'setup' to mean different things, because everything I described wanting to happen (except for that last bit) was a continuation of things that happen in the Last Jedi. To me, that means they were set up.

TLJ was a good and iconoclastic movie, and it got rid of a lot of the dross that allowed RoS to be as good as it was.
- ANH
- ESB
- RotJ
- RoS
- RO
- RotS
- TLJ
- TFA
- TPM
Haven't seen Solo yet.

Fight me.
You like a thing I like, but you don't like it as much as I like it, which means you're not just a bad person, you're my mortal enemy and I must never forget this injury you have done me which definitely doesn't mean my life is so low-stakes I can treat levels of performative devotion to a movie about space wizards as an enraging injustice.
Sleep with one eye open, you monster.

Fight me.I saw it on a plane.
We landed before it was over.I've never had any desire or need to go back and finish it. I don't care how it ends. It passed time I'd have otherwise been unsuccessfully trying to sleep and that is the only good thing I can say about Solo.

@Rinel
I have a hard time ranking the prequel movies because if you just delete most scenes involving jar jar and most padme/anakin scenes, the remaining story is genuinely pretty good. I have no idea how Lucas managed to make that romance so unbelievably cringe. -
Because Lucas cannot direct actual actors.
-
@Groth Lucas had Samuel L. Jackson, Ewan McGregor, Liam Neeson and Natalie Portman all near the pinnacle of their careers, and even from those insanely good actors, we got wooden dialogue and awkward emoting.
It's absolutely unbelievable to me.
-
Ewan Mcgregor and Ian McDiarmid kill it in three movies where no one else can really be bothered to try.
