Good or New Movies Review

Vivarium is good, creepy sci-fi. Don't watch it if the isolation and feeling of inescapable solitude of quarantine/pandemic life gets to you easily, though.

@Coin Haha...haha...ha.. ahhhh life in the U.S.

I'm a touch under the weather today (sinus infection) and needed something light-hearted to watch (been watching a lot of horror and mystery stuff lately). I chose Enola Holmes and I'm really glad I did.
It was fun, it was cute, and man, Millie Bobbie Brown is already an amazing actress. I really look forward to seeing more of her.

@Auspice I too enjoyed this one.

I'm not going to say that New Mutants failed because of its special effects budget. There were certainly more issues than that with the movie.
But if you are going to make an X-Men film you should have the budget to do it justice, else why are you making an X-Men film with characters who can turn into a wolf, transform themselves into fiery energy, fly, etc when it will look worse than most modern TV shows?

This is good to be aware of, I was looking forward to it, but maybe I'm no longer in a rush to see it.
In other news, The Devil All The Time was enjoyable. It was reminiscent of a Robert Altman work due to a lot of named actors appearing in even small roles, but it was good. It was a whose who of a newer generation and coming up actors. It all worked out pretty good , it wasn't just a pan through a restaurant with like Stallone having dinner in a random scene. All the roles were good, but I was glad to see Harry Melling (Dudley Dursley) in this one.

Watch The Queen's Gambit if you haven't. He has a great role in it. The dude can act.

What a waste of talent.

I've been considering starting that, this further convinces me, I'll give it a go.

The Queen's Gambit is very good.

Cosmos (2019) was actually really good. At parts it touches on campy and the music is a bit much. But then again, the only part they spent money on was the score, so they got what they paid for too.
This movie really shows a good use of the language of film. The score is a good bed of sound (Altman) despite at parts being bit overly dramatic. Otherwise, they are really good with elements. Good use of Chekhov's gun and no big MacGuffins that seem out of place. So simple and good awareness of the science (mostly, it falls apart a little but the film language is balanced); the guys had some experience I believe with documentaries in the realm of radio astronomy (them or a parent maybe).
I'm in a phase of everything I see look like a bad rehash in various genre without contributing much new. This was a good one for me to see during this phase.

Do you like horror movies? Gore? Black humor?
How about the Power Rangers?
Psycho Goreman is for you. -
I guess I'm the only one watching new movies.
Raya and the Last Dragon is really good for me. Its a combination of a few showings from recent animated series and blended it well for me (broken/mixed/'non-trad' family structures, etc.). Could the various cultures combined into the movie have had more time/showing, yes. The over all message at its heart presents well without being a slap to the face; kindness starts within, or be the change you envision don't wait for someone else. I really liked it is all.

Willy's Wonderland is fantastic and I wish I had weed to smoke just before watching it.
-
I just did a rewatch of How to Talk to Girls at Parties and am genuinely surprised at how much I liked it the second time around.

I am 20 minutes into the Zach Snyder's Directors Cut of The Justice League and it is already a million times better than the 2017 version.
Thank goodness.
THIS is the DC world. No stupid slapstick comedy, no out of character wittiness. This is the DC comics I loved as a child and would stay up at night reading from my father's collection. It wasn't always particularly hopeful, but the stories were something I craved.

I have not had as good and consistent laughter throughout a movie as I did while watching Werewolves Within in quite a while. It's absurd and quirky, and the two leads were fantastic. If you enjoy horror comedy, check it out!

Pyscho goreman. That was a trip throwback to classic Torma style grindhouse. Also, can't get that song out of my head.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is amazing and the best MCU movie yet.
